      Even my dermatologist said that we’re actually need only 3-4 steps skin care routine to get clear skin and/or maintain it. Literally only cleanse, toning, moisturizing & protecting on a day.
      And that every each of it needs to be customized by personal skin’s need. You definitely can not wear those skin care from friend of yours just because you see their skin is perfect. Periodt
      Edit; those 10 steps skincare routine was made by beauty influencers only for hyping the brands which occurred with tons of various products.

      @22megabelle Yup. Most of it is to make money. I only use cleanser, SA 2%, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Some days, I'll add a lightweight gel toner. All those products address my needs. Not an influencer, and definitely not emulating someone that's using me for money/views.

    Wait… no SA with hyperpigmentation? That’s a bold and perhaps oversimplified statement for the many of us who use SA to treat acne and its related hyperpigmentation! From an initial google search it seems like SA does what we know it does, but in some cases the active ingredients can be harsh/irritating/inflammatory and can lead to “post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation” (PIH). But if used properly, long-term hyperpigmentation from SA isn’t a common issue. With care and moderation, for someone like me (mild acne/acne scar hyperpigmentation) I suspect SA may still be a decent option to treat acne well while exfoliating gently, and might basically be neutral towards the risk of worsening (or improving) hyperpigmentation. As with anything, avoiding overuse and skin irritation is big! I’ll look into the data on this further. If anyone has an idea about the reality of this, let me know!

    • @TheAlixAmanda
      @TheAlixAmanda 6 месяцев назад +29

      I’m pretty sure she means that if you are using SA specifically hoping it will fade hyperpigmentation then you are not helping yourself because there are much better ingredients like azaleic acid or niacinimide (she made a whole video about hyperpigmentation) but SA is not an ingredient that targets hyperpigmentation it really only targets acne

    • @rudy5807

    Thats why i always shake my head when i see people in the comments asking for celebrities' and influencers' skincare products and routines. You can't copy someone else's curated routine. They have different and unique skincare needs. Its better to see a dermatologist and get a specific routine curated to your needs. Its better money spent than wasting money buying products which dont work for you or worse yet damage your skin.

    I have severe cystic acne and it would be my whole face, down my neck to my back and chest and upper arms. I tried every possible routine from prescription to otc. 5 steps, 8 steps, different toners and serums. One day I just gave up and started using only new born baby soap and moisturizer. It changed my whole life. I was still prone to severe breakouts so I also went to a derm and got a daily prescription pill to help with the hormones causing the flare ups. More is not always better!!

    Interesting this is the type of knowledge I always try to find. What not to mix in a skincare routine, what’s best for me and stuff that I shouldn’t be using, I had no idea I shouldn’t use salicylic acid with hyperpigmentation.
    I was going to buy Paula’s Choice liquid exfoliator but maybe not then.

    • @jomorbista2009
      @jomorbista2009 6 месяцев назад +3

      For hyperpigmentation, it's cousins AHAs like glycolic or lactic acid are the right ones to target it, along with a product containing at least three of these: vitamin c, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, tranexamic acid, kojic acid or licorice root!

    I’m 39 years old and have thick oily/acne-prone skin…no wrinkles, no fine lines yet…I swear by Tretinoin and Hydroxy Acids (AHA and BHA). And I love a simple Hyaluronic acid serum on my damp face just before applying my Tretinoin, I live in a hot and humid climate and most moisturizers are just too heavy and greasy.

    In a nutshell, less is better. My skin was breaking out like crazy when i use skincare products with those ingredient and no it's not purging. So then i tried using only gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Since then, my skin stopped breaking out and less mad acne pop out. Though this is my experience and everyone skin is different.

    this is something that a lot of young people need to get through their heads very very early on. So many girls my age I see spending literally hundreds of dollars a month on random skincare, products, treatments, etc. simply because they see them online. it is pure over consumption and in some cases honestly teetering into an addiction to shopping. Before you buy any product, you need to look into what it does and what it does on different skin types. You also need to look into what it will do when mixed with the other ingredients in your current skincare

    Through the years I followed you, I found what works for me and stuck to it. I narrowed down my skin care to just double cleansing (cleansing balm + foam cleanser), bha toner (Paula's choice) + moisturiser + sunscreen. At night it would be retinol instead of bha toner + moisturiser. I stopped having several serums because the bha and retinol alternate use solved almost all issues I have with my skin, which is mostly just clogged pores and texture, and of course, some fine lines. I just have an extra salicylic acid cleanser and some pimple patches for the occasional pimple. I'm just now saving up for a microcurrent device to take it up a notch. Thank you, Dr. Shereen!

    It really comes down to what you're eating. If you have vitamin deficiencies, don't drink water, never work out, and don't shower regularly, you'll have skin problems. That's why you see poor people with amazing skin. They don't eat toxic foods and stick to the basics

    i've been trying TONS of viral skincare products and they barely worked
    then i decided to go to a dermatologist, crying, bc my bf said my skin felt harsh and there was barely any result from my skincare routine and my skin gets better in just 2 months
    my skin problems are active acne and hyperpigmentations, my dermatologist prescribed me with adapalene, azelaic acid and clindamycin on the first month
    there was just a slight improvement and she prescribed me with tretinoin as the replacement of adapalene
    my skin never felt any better than this!
    i was so mad at my bf for being so honest at that time but now i feel so grateful for him 😂❤

Obviously, foam and spf did not solve the problems with my skin. so I'd rather spend some money and try everything until I find something that really helps me. in any case, a lot of positive feedback from ordinary people who used these products and were satisfied with the result!!! so it makes sense

    so true. i got into skincare when i truly didn’t need it (i added like four serums and exfoliants) i had hardly any acne and then i started breaking out like crazy (my forehead was a minefield of closed comedones) and after a year i quit everything but cleanser (dial soap bar lol) sunscreen and a la roche posay moisturizer or whatever it’s called and my skin has literally no acne whatsoever. sometimes we just don’t need anything and adding extra steps makes it worse (speaking from a non acne prone skin type) but i think generally less is more when it comes to products. try focusing on the biggest issues like she said and don’t overload your skin

    How do you get rid of break outs along shoulders and neck?

  • @png7725
    @png7725 3 месяца назад +1

    Exactly! I have been to around 4 dermatologists. The common thing i found was that all four of them only focused on cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen (also shampoo if you have dermatitis). I had blackheads too and for that none of them suggested scrubs or peel off mask. I was given gel ointments and thats it. All these serums and 20 products thing is not at all necessary. If you want to, you can. But its not necessary.

My skin looks great, some sun damage has also been reversed and people always think lm at least 10 years younger.Apart from that ,only cleansing and spf in the morning and cleansing and moisturizing with most nights using castor oil as well.

I mostly use cleanser, face cream and sunscreen. That’s it and my friends ask me how I keep my skin clean and they never see that many pimples when I fully stopped using toners.
