Agreed. I recently spent 3 months in Hungary and was leasing a house which had a well for the water supply. It stank of rotten eggs. I have suffered from Folliculitis decalvans for years. 2 weeks after using the sulfur rich water my scalp completely cleared with zero medications. Now I’m using a sulfur soap with the same results
OMG, I had the exact same experience when I was in my early 20s and I moved to New Zealand for several years - I spent a month based in Rotorua, a large town/small city which is literally built on top of a massive sulfur hot spring. You can smell the rotten eggs a good 10 miles from the outskirts of town. When I first moved to NZ, the radically different environmental pollen and extreme UV levels from the hole in the ozone layer caused my skin to break out like it never had before. After 2-3 weeks of showering in L'Eau d'Rotten Egg, my complexion began to clear like magic. I truly never understood why, until I read this comment.

I am a fair skinned natural redhead, this tint is perfect for my skin tone. I don't have milky white skin with big freckles, I'm more of a fair to light skin tone. With very sensitive skin, I have to be careful. Liquidmat never dries my skin out or leaves it red. I use it for an occasional zit. My dermatologist also loves sulfur. Great video!!!😊❤
Dr. Shereene, could you make a video about the changes we can make in the skincare routine for women who are starting menopause? Because my skin became so sensitive that I can't even use sunscreen, and I've tried tons of physicals and chemicals and nothing is working. I had to stop retinol, vitamin c or any active ingredients. Dermatologists rarely talk about menopause. And I have the appointment in another month and I don't know what I can do now. 😭

Eucerin 50 pigment control is the only suncreen that didn't cause pimples. I tried korean brands too. I actually found the eucerin from a video she did on sunscreen. I bought 3 different ones she discussesd. Eucerin was the 2nd one I tried. Never used anything else again.
MSM powder is an easy way to use sulfur and dilute it to a chosen concentration. There is no smell and it is very inexpensive. Worked better than my prescription topical antibiotic and was less irritating.
Mixing it with a lotion is fine if doing it right before applying. The logic is because it can destabilize emulsions (so don’t add it to your bottle of moisturizer), but that doesn’t matter much if you are applying it in two seconds. Also, hypochlorous acid spray and ozonated water kill bacteria very well and are also very gentle to add as well to a skin routine. Make sure though that something nutrient or hormonal isn’t the root though because topical won’t do much for that. Tips for that… Insotol and myo insotol are supplements usd by fertility clinics to help regulate hormones. And most women do not get enough omega threes, iron, or magnesium. So check out that as well. Best of luck!
I just got some 10% sulfur soap. I workout a lot and have been struggling with acne all over, it’s been helping out so much!! Only after 2 weeks, I’ve noticed a HUGE change! My upper arm/upper back acne is almost gone, and my sebaceous filaments are almost nonexistent 🙌

9:20 hey I just want to let everyone know that Starface discontinued all of their skincare products (besides their pimple patches), including the sulfur mask mentioned in the video. I think it happened early January.
Please do a video on Korean Skincare and it’s effectiveness. There is so much hype around Korean skincare. Is Korean skincare really worth adding to our skincare routine? I remember my physician prescribing a cream with sulfur in the cream, when I was a teen, it worked overnight. Thank you for your frank and informative videos.
I cannot thank you enough, my 30s welcomed me with awful adult hormonal acne and I've tried EVERYTHING for years except sulfur I guess lol. Recently tried EradiKate cleanser because of you and GAME CHANGER! Finally 🙌🏻
THanks so much for this! I'd completely forgotten about sulfur, first used it in the 1970s when I was 14 and had very bad cystic and hormonal acne. That is no longer the case, thankfully, but I'm still really oily at 65, and everyone has sebaceous filaments. Looking around, The Honest Company makes a colloidal sulfur cleanser that I like a lot and is about $18, half the price of Kate Somerville. 3% colloidal sulfur. I really don't mind the smell and it's not that strong. Will try De La Cruz also for more of a treatment product. Again, thanks for the reminder!
@@fhhnaa it definitely helped. I couldn't tolerate retin-a. It would be hard to use during the day because of the smell (I really don't care, but other people, you know...). There was no sal acid, retinol, vitaminc C, niacinamide, benzoyl peroxide, in those days and I would definitely use them together. Nothing is a panacea, but I would definitely recommend it together with the many great options now. Good luck!
I have a bactrim/sulfa allergy (had SJT in the past from taking sulfa antibiotics), however, I use the Kate Somerville Eradikate face wash on most days and I have no issues.
I call the Starface mask my Cookie Monster mask 🙃 They did a collab with Sesame Street, so think they missed a trick there. Should’ve made it cookie dough scented! The weird thing about it is the smell isn’t too bad whilst it’s on, but after washing it off, the eggy smell lingers for a couple of days

Sulfur is the best for the worst rosacea flair ups. I don’t use it all the time but when my rosacea goes insane sulfur shows up. I don’t care if it smells bad or not. It helps. FAB used to make a antiredness serum that had it in there. It was the absolute best product for rosacea flair ups. They stopped making it sadly.
Can you try Laser treatments, Rosadyn and maybe tetracycline antibiotics? They have all worked for me in the past (over 30 years of Rosacea)! So much fun!
@@Jasmine215100 sadly I can’t use the antibiotics. I’ve scheduled my first laser treatment(IPL). Which laser treatment do you get? I’ve heard different things about it.
BOTNIA SKINCARE makes simple sachets of colloidal sulfur and oat flour. The scent isn’t too offensive and I either mix it with my own cleanser or a hydrosol.✨
Murad is the only product we can easily get in Australia. Love using on my nose but will have my 14 year old son put on a red and nasty spot on his nose. Thanks for the tip Dr Idriss.
I finally found the de la cruz sulfur acne treatment at a nearby Walgreens. It was the last one on the shelf so hopefully its been working for those other guys, lol. I just tried it out today, I'm hoping it reduces these skin-colored tiny bumps i have on my face which I believe might be fungal acne. Im also using it to assist in treating my overall acne in general. I'm planning on using it only on my tretinoin off days and see what's up. Currently, i have a face full of acne dark spots and consistent new acne. Wish me luck
I gotta tell ya that the Joesoef Sulfur bar soap is the best acne cleanser I’ve ever used and I’ve used them all. Been using it for roughly 4 years. I use it daily in the shower on my face and let my face air dry for a couple minutes after I’m done. I follow up with a very good moisturizer on my face, and I have had no issues with dryness. It truly is an amazing product. It is so good for inflammation, excess oil and redness caused from rosacea. There are thousands of reviews on Amazon about this product and most people have seen really good results
Waiting for that PillowTalkDerm sulfur face wash drop 👀 or at least I’m hoping that’s what the exciting news is lol or maybe a glycerine based facial spray?
I keep sulfur and argon oil soaps in my shower and alternate. Sulfur is great during summer preventing skin rashes. Once in a great while I even wash my scalp with it.
I wanted to try sulfur for my acne spots, but I'm so glad that u mentioned the allergy thing 😅. It's really scary cuz I almost just bought it at the store one day. I didn't put together that sulfa drugs are made of sulfur 😅
I love sulfur too! I just started using bar soaps for the body for now to solve back-ne and so far so good! The smell really is misleading but the effects are definitely worth it!
For a cheaper option try AcneFree Sulfur Acne Foaming Cleanser with Lemon Oil, and Oat Extract (3.5%). The scent is faint and with the lemon is tolerable. I have tried De La Cruz, but the smell lingered in the bathroom which bothered family. Sulfur has been so gentle for me. Skin almost feels waxy. But it took some time to build up to being able to use more regularl. While I tried the Inkey List's succinc acid spot treatment contains sulfur. It's price point isn't great, but is convenient if you want to wear around the nose. Beware, it's green! SLMD had a sulfur product but I think it's gone which is dissappointing because I wanted to try it.
Watching her videos and making notes with product recommentdations really helps me feel confident that I can tackle any skin problem. Please talk about Keratosis Pilaris.
I was thinking about getting a sulfur soap after hearing you mention it before, but I'm REALLY GLAD I watched this first because I'm actually one of those people that are allergic to sulfa drugs so I'd probably be allergic to this like you mentioned. I'll have to stick to salicylic acid clensers for my acne 😭 Edit: does that mean I can't go in natural hotsprings either? I live near some and I was hoping to go one day...
I use the Dr. Dennis Gross sulfur mask. It's expensive, so I use it on my nose and jawline where I break out, and I apply an inexpensive hydrating clay mask to the rest of my face. I'll typically use it twice in the week before I start my period, when I get a hormonal breakout. It smells a little bit like sulfur and a lot like rosemary.
The EradiKate line has really helped my acne. I can't prove it but the HA from the Ordinary really broke me out. I kept thinking it was helping, but it was drying and inflaming my very sensitive acne prone skin. I am very sensitive to wine and always assumed it was the sulphur/sulfer in it. At least it's safe topically applied.
I love the ointment by de la cruz! I bought the sample two years ago and i still have so much left, I have seb derm, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, and possibly MCAS and it really soothes my inflamed skin, and is one product I can use while also using Aklief, not at the same time, and perhaps not on the same days, but it doesn't overly sensitize me.

Hi, I have been following you for quite some time now. Love all the info. I see now your hair are longer and much beautiful skin with no lines at all. Can you please share the cosmetic procedure that you are doing on yourself. Really appreciate all your efforts and videos. Thank you ❤
@Dr. Shereen Idriss I remember so, so, so many years that I used compound many prescriptions in Australia containing sulphur and resorcinol for acne etc but I rarely see prescriptions now. My go to is by Mecca MECCA MAX X-ZIT STRATEGY Clarifying Mask which has lactic acid, 5 percent sulphur , your favourite ingredient , glycerin and bamboo charcoal and it does wonders for acne.
AcneFree has a 3.5% Sulfur/Clay mask for like $10 that doesn't absolutely wreak. If you have sensitive skin and don't like overspending, then just get this one.
Hi! I just stumbled upon your channel. Do you have a video outlining YOUR skincare regimen, treatments (if you’re willing to share your secrets), the products you use, etc? Your skin is STUNNING! 😍
Would love a deeper dive into menopausal /hormone replacement issues that has completely changed my skin. Hormone tests revealed I was deficient in testosterone, progesterone, estrogen, dhea and low thyroid. I have never had acne but now my face is erupting with painful cystic acne (mostly on chin and jawline). Also using tretinoin 3x a week for melasma, texture and age spots , along with RX hydrocortisone for itching. I have been using your product line and ❤️ it!!! I use isdin sunscreen religiously. Please do a video to show how to address these issues and how to layer all the products. I have also included an essence and have been using the aveeno calm & restore. Doing all the things. And also using your mask 2x a week. I had a reaction/rash in my teens with a sulfa antibiotic and was told it was an allergic reaction so I have avoided it but decided to try it again to help with painful acne (strange but noticed my jewelry turned black 😳) My hormone doc said it was likely the sulfa spot treatment . I’m a complete shitshow and need HELP 🙏
I just ordered the Murad one because I want to do something about my sebaceous filaments and hormonal breakouts, so I’m happy to see it on your list and that I made the right choice for my sensitive skin. I’ve actually avoided salicylic acid due to it drying me out, but I read that the Murad mask wasn’t drying so I went for that (it was also 20% off). I’ll only be using it over my nose and as spot treatment and I am so glad it doesn’t have a strong scent to it since that is something that could easily trigger a migraine for me.
I use the Murad mask mentioned and the Salicilyc Acid doesn't bother my sensitive skin. I do think it has a bit of a sulfur scent, but strangely that surfaces after you washed it off, not while it's on your face. It's not extremely strong though thankfully

Got some from aromazone but I don't see any improvement. Can I just mix it with my moisturizer ?
My upper arm/upper back acne is almost gone, and my sebaceous filaments are almost nonexistent 🙌
i love you so much you’ve saved my skin
as a medical student and soon be studying dermatology residency. I never tried sulfur it has its benefits as an owner of sensitive skin without acne i wouldn't use it on myself, i love your topics very much very educational and very beneficial for my future practice as a dermatologist
I got Tula's sulfur cleanser. Wow, what a difference it's made! Thank you So much for all of your hard work and sharing of your wisdom. 😊👏
Hey! How do you use it please? As a cleanser?
@oumaimael-mrabet5584 yes, as a face wash once a day.
AT LAST, the missing piece of my personal skincare puzzle! Thank you, Dr. Idriss! 💖
p.s. I turned 40 earlier this week and I'm happy to report that it's been pretty okay so far. Happy (Early) Birthday to one of the best and brightest around! A truly dazzling gem of a human! Hoping your 40th is full of ALL of the good things: love, hugs, sparkles, high-fives, rainbows, sweet treats, and more! 💖💖💖
9:20 hey I just want to let everyone know that Starface discontinued all of their skincare products (besides their pimple patches), including the sulfur mask mentioned in the video. I think it happened early January.
Is there an alternative?
Just bought the sulfur mask and sunscreen today!!! Oh happy days
Finally 🙌🏻
This is such perfect timing. I was thinking about trying sulfur again. Great info and education, as always!
Did the sulfur help you with cystic hormonal acne back then?
@@fhhnaa it definitely helped. I couldn't tolerate retin-a. It would be hard to use during the day because of the smell (I really don't care, but other people, you know...). There was no sal acid, retinol, vitaminc C, niacinamide, benzoyl peroxide, in those days and I would definitely use them together. Nothing is a panacea, but I would definitely recommend it together with the many great options now. Good luck!
Wish you told us all the modalities/injections you’ve done and your schedule of when you do them! Your skin is amazing!
Thank You for all the help and support ❣️
Could you do a teen/tween skincare episode? My daughter would really benefit from hearing the truths from you!
I have a bactrim/sulfa allergy (had SJT in the past from taking sulfa antibiotics), however, I use the Kate Somerville Eradikate face wash on most days and I have no issues.
❤ Yes! Thank you for saying this!!! Humans literally need sulfur to survive. Sulfa *SULFONAMIDE* allergy is something entirely different.
I can't wait to find out about the exciting announcements coming our way. I love reading your News Letter. Enjoy your weekend Dr. Idriss. 💜🤓
My skincare hero ❤
I call the Starface mask my Cookie Monster mask 🙃 They did a collab with Sesame Street, so think they missed a trick there. Should’ve made it cookie dough scented! The weird thing about it is the smell isn’t too bad whilst it’s on, but after washing it off, the eggy smell lingers for a couple of days
I love sulfur. Sulfur soap saved my skin from acne in my younger days
Dr. Sheerene, I love listening to your videos, so informative and sooo much to learn. My skin has improved so much after following your advices. ❤❤
And I stopped buying products right and left and really look into the ingredients before buying.
Thank you for the amazing work you are doing - Noza (using my husband’s youtube😂)
In all honesty i would love a vid where you retouch on skin types. Ive been working with combo skin and either mild rosacea or sensitive skin
Im on my 2nd day of using the De La Cruz acne treatment because I ran across your video speaking about sulfur so THANK YOU! I have oily skin, rosacea and acne prone so Im really hoping this will help all 3 issues
Any updates?
My mom used to buy sulfur bar soap. That was before I turned 10. This video reminds me of it. I will buy later. Hopefully I can find it.
I want your products soooo much ! I cannot wait when you ship to Europe!
I have subscribed to the news letter. Nerdie Newbie proud x
Also love Fungus among us quote cracks me up 😅
Sulfur is the best for the worst rosacea flair ups.
A video on ingredients in skin care to avoid would be amazing
BOTNIA SKINCARE makes simple sachets of colloidal sulfur and oat flour. The scent isn’t too offensive and I either mix it with my own cleanser or a hydrosol.✨
Murad is the only product we can easily get in Australia. Love using on my nose but will have my 14 year old son put on a red and nasty spot on his nose. Thanks for the tip Dr Idriss.
Australian Moogoo has MSM products
I finally found the de la cruz sulfur acne treatment at a nearby Walgreens. It was the last one on the shelf so hopefully its been working for those other guys, lol. I just tried it out today, I'm hoping it reduces these skin-colored tiny bumps i have on my face which I believe might be fungal acne. Im also using it to assist in treating my overall acne in general. I'm planning on using it only on my tretinoin off days and see what's up. Currently, i have a face full of acne dark spots and consistent new acne. Wish me luck
Thank you !! I am 68 and really need the blue mask just for my nose !!
Sulfur soap stopped my breakouts! Worked like magic 😂
Prosacea (clear) gel is my lifesaver. 10% sulfur (which doesn’t smell), aloe & urea. Can buy anywhere. Has replaced azelaic acid Rx for me.
I'm considering buying it. Do you use it all over your face? Besides the face, can we use it on the body as well?
@@N.N010 yes and yes 😊 however, it’s a small tube
I use prosacea too but I've noticed if I start sweating or after a few hours of wear, I can smell it.
I didn't have good results with it unfortunately:( I feel like it irritated my skin
Please do a full video on Argireline dr Idriss. We have still many questions on its benefits and way to use.
Waiting for that PillowTalkDerm sulfur face wash drop 👀 or at least I’m hoping that’s what the exciting news is lol
or maybe a glycerine based facial spray?
Love from india❤❤❤
U have been the solution for so many problems and acne is one of them..thnk u so much dr.idriss ❤
💜💜💜You are a TRUE GEM on RUclips💜💜💜
One MUST also consider what you eat and how you feel (psyche) and what other things you put on your face.
Yes, the bar soap you mentioned is really nice but it does dry your skin. I just follow with a good moisturizer.
The Inky list also have a sulfur spot treatment cream
I keep sulfur and argon oil soaps in my shower and alternate. Sulfur is great during summer preventing skin rashes. Once in a great while I even wash my scalp with it.
I wanted to try sulfur for my acne spots, but I'm so glad that u mentioned the allergy thing 😅. It's really scary cuz I almost just bought it at the store one day. I didn't put together that sulfa drugs are made of sulfur 😅
Thank you so much for the tips! The only puzzle piece I’m missing here - can sulfur be paired with any other skincare actives?
Aw love that! I have a KP video on my channel 🙌
I love my sulfur face gel along with my retinol!!!
🔥🔥🔥
I was thinking about getting a sulfur soap after hearing you mention it before, but I'm REALLY GLAD I watched this first because I'm actually one of those people that are allergic to sulfa drugs so I'd probably be allergic to this like you mentioned. I'll have to stick to salicylic acid clensers for my acne 😭
Edit: does that mean I can't go in natural hotsprings either? I live near some and I was hoping to go one day...
I use the Dr. Dennis Gross sulfur mask. It's expensive, so I use it on my nose and jawline where I break out, and I apply an inexpensive hydrating clay mask to the rest of my face. I'll typically use it twice in the week before I start my period, when I get a hormonal breakout. It smells a little bit like sulfur and a lot like rosemary.
🖤 could you make a video about vitamin B12 excess causing acne?
Guys , there is Kate Somerville in Ulta online only , for 44.
The content is informative and the presentation style for today is MUCH better. Well done.
You may not see this but could you please do a video on psoriasis?? Any recommendations, any products or treatments that you know, things you have learned about it. Thank you
Hi,
I have been following you for quite some time now. Love all the info. I see now your hair are longer and much beautiful skin with no lines at all. Can you please share the cosmetic procedure that you are doing on yourself. Really appreciate all your efforts and videos. Thank you ❤
so helpful and to the point! Thank you :)
@Dr. Shereen Idriss I remember so, so, so many years that I used compound many prescriptions in Australia containing sulphur and resorcinol for acne etc but I rarely see prescriptions now. My go to is by Mecca MECCA MAX
X-ZIT STRATEGY Clarifying Mask which has lactic acid, 5 percent sulphur , your favourite ingredient , glycerin and bamboo charcoal and it does wonders for acne.
Sulfacet-R was my jam as a teenager
I have sensitive skin and the Starface mask burned my skin around my nostrils:/ The smell also lingers after rinsing so be careful out there!!
Pls do video on upper hair removal tips
AcneFree has a 3.5% Sulfur/Clay mask for like $10 that doesn't absolutely wreak. If you have sensitive skin and don't like overspending, then just get this one.
Check out the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion! Works wonders as a spot treatment!
Hi! I just stumbled upon your channel. Do you have a video outlining YOUR skincare regimen, treatments (if you’re willing to share your secrets), the products you use, etc? Your skin is STUNNING! 😍
Yes she has several videos on her channel of her morning and evening routine
@@najouabilal8830 Thank you! Is there a way to find them without scrolling, scrolling, scrolling…?
Use flaxseed/pumpkin seed powder, helps with menopausal acne
I found the starface sulfur mask and I'm excited to try.
How has it worked?
@hollywood9414 not bad. I don't see the hype in it though. I honestly prefer Kate Somerville sulfur cleanser instead.
It would be nice if you addressed women with older and dry skin.
I use a 3 euro bar of sulfur soap as my second cleanse to remove balm cleanser, every so often, it does a great job 😊
Hi which one is it and where do you get it in Europe?
@@nidhir8344 in Italy, and it's just in a normal supermarket in the soap section :) The brand is " I provenzali "
@@nidhir8344 hi, the one I find in most supermarkets is by brand "i provenzali"
@@nidhir8344 in Italy at least
I just ordered the Murad one because I want to do something about my sebaceous filaments and hormonal breakouts, so I’m happy to see it on your list and that I made the right choice for my sensitive skin. I’ve actually avoided salicylic acid due to it drying me out, but I read that the Murad mask wasn’t drying so I went for that (it was also 20% off). I’ll only be using it over my nose and as spot treatment and I am so glad it doesn’t have a strong scent to it since that is something that could easily trigger a migraine for me.
I used Dr Dennis Gross Sulfee Mask and it works so good, but the price raised and the size got smaller.
I picked up Neutrogena sulfur with nicinamide spot treatment.
I would like a video on peptides and specifically copper. Thanks! 💜
Dela Cruz Sulfur cream WORKS!
I use the Murad mask mentioned and the Salicilyc Acid doesn't bother my sensitive skin. I do think it has a bit of a sulfur scent, but strangely that surfaces after you washed it off, not while it's on your face. It's not extremely strong though thankfully
Woohoo! Birthday Month!! Happy Early Bday 15 days early haha! My daughters is the 25th. Great info again! Thx
Thank you so much! Can you speak about products cointaining DMAE?
I can’t believe you only have 1.34 million followers. 😅so glad you showed me sulfur
