  • In a world saturated with social media, where every scroll unveils a parade of seemingly perfect bodies, navigating body image can feel like traversing a minefield, especially for those living with diabetes. The constant monitoring, the weight fluctuations, the visible reminders like insulin injections or pump sites - all these factors can conspire to erode our self-esteem and challenge our sense of worth.
But here's the truth, Diabesties: you are so much more than your diabetes. Your value isn't measured by your A1C levels or the number on the scale. It's measured by the strength you exhibit every day in managing your health, by the resilience you demonstrate in the face of challenges, and by the kindness and compassion you show to yourself.
Embracing a positive body image isn't about achieving some idealized version of perfection. It's about embracing your body for all that it is - scars, imperfections, and all. It's about shifting the focus from how your body looks to what it can do. Your body is a marvel, capable of incredible things, and it deserves your love and appreciation.
So, let's challenge the narrative that tells us we're not enough. Let's celebrate our bodies for the miracles they are and recognize that our worth transcends any physical appearance. Together, let's redefine beauty on our own terms - with strength, resilience, and self-love at the forefront.
Because remember, Diabesties, you are worthy, you are powerful, and you are beautiful, just as you are.

Feeling this so hard. Always had body issues. Finally felt thin but had LADA. Once diagnosed and treated gained 15 lbs. Still a normal bmi but negative self talk. People assume that my diabetes is my fault due to onset age. 😡😡

First of all, you are gorgeous girl! Those rude commenters are unhappy folks.
Secondly, I’ve always struggled with self esteem growing up. But in my twenties I was more noticeable, popular and desirable… but now that I am older I don’t care for the physical beauty - although I sometimes look in the mirror and say “ I still look good!” I compare my accomplishments and mind with others because those are important things. Overall, it is not good to compare ourselves to anyone anyway in any capacity.

That’s it!! We are so much more than our outward appearance, or conditions we’re living with. There’s so much to us than that, but people can be shallow.

Sometimes other factors can be a cause for weight gain. Chat with your doctor about your concerns to make sure they can help you with ruling things out.
