- It's time I take a look at, not one, but two live-action Disney films based on the Inspector Gadget cartoon. I won't be able to Go Go Gadget my way out of this one!

Imagine how much better it would have been if the people behind the sequel made the first movie
I prefer the second movie. The romance is cute and G2 has cool gadgets, Penny is likable and proactive instead of just comforting her uncle one time then never helped him again. Claw is menacing, always hidden in the shadows and smart, his henchemans are funny, the cartoons sound effects are not annoying. It's simple and charming :)
And I prefer the Matthew Broderick version.
I think the romance in the second film wasn't great.
The thing that irked me was that G2 didn't have the inspector coat I thought she was going to have from what it looked like from the teaser trailer. 😅
I agree; nevertheless, when animated movies of this cartoon were made, why did they _just_ keep the Gadgetmobile as a character but not use G2 or RoboGadget?
Now THIS is the review I've been waiting for!
The first movie is definitely a guilty pleasure for me, as I grew up with it. Definitely was confused by the cartoon and the second movie at first lol.
I agree.
watching french stewart as inspector gadget in inspector gadget 2 all im thinking " imagine him being the recasted replacement for the character of ernest p worrell
Would have been interesting seeing Spielberg's take on Gadget. Don Adams should have just voiced the Gadget mobile! Would have gone a long way in terms of fan service! It's a shame the longer/slightly grittier test screening version of the film hasn't been discovered yet. According to the director, the test screening scored the best amongst test audiences. Each subsequent cut got worse and worse test screening scores.
They would have to recast him though afterwards, he retired not long after the film came out
The first Inspector Gadget film was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Los Angeles, California in the United States, while the second Inspector Gadget film was filmed in and around Brisbane, Queensland, Australia...
As an australian, the second film definitely has an aussie feel to it
Second one is the best!
When I heard the song at the end of the movie, I thought it sounded like *NSYNC, but even *NSYNC wouldn't stoop as low as this movie, so I knew it couldn't be them.
Disney's interpretation of Dr. Claw: one part Captain Hook and one part James Bond villain...
I have to agree that some of the stuff put into Brown/Gadget is TOTALLY out of place for something that is supposed to be essentially RoboCop. If I was Quimby, I'd be backing out the minute someone picked up an umbrella and looked at the guy and if the Mayor tried to fire me because "You signed on this as much as I did", I'd personally hand her my Badge, saying " I signed on the understanding I was getting "The Future of Policing". You tell me how a rubber duck and hedge trimmers are supposed to be used to fight crime, "your Honour"?!"
Looking back, I can say it FEELS like a late 90s/early 2000s movie that movied.
8:50 T&J movie is a guilty pleasure for me
Jerry Seinfeld as Inspector Gadget:
What's the deal with brown bricks in Minecraft?
The first movie is like feeling sluggish on a sick day and the second one is like next day feeling a little better, but still sick.
The first is a much better movie.
@@themidnighttavern6784 exactly what I think too
I don’t know why they’re making the new inspector gadget movie live action. We could at least get a real animated theatrical film. Although whether or not it’s live action or animated, I think Bill Hader would be a great inspector gadget.
When you mentioned Brenda there actually a deleted scene that explains she broke up with gadget
Love the shoutout to Youngstown! I still bump “I’ll be your everything” to this day lol Great video 👍🏾
Both movies are close to my heart. I love IG2 more because of its closer resemblance to the cartoons. The budget was really not that great for CGI but imagine the crew behind IG2 made the first movie. I would love to see IG movie or even a series again especially in this day and age.
My favorite is inspector gadget 🕵🏻♂️🔎🚨
Thank you
I remember enjoying the first one as a kid.
Second one….I’d always fall asleep after 10-20 minutes
Both were great
I can see what they were going for, they wanted to make an origin story to the series while restarting it with a new twist and in some ways I could really respect that idea. But, let's be fair and 100% truthful. There are Inspector Gadget PORN PARODIES that capture the spirit of the show more accurately!
This is something that could've been salvaged in some form. It really could've. Try to duplicate animation more faithfully, hire a director who's experienced with special effects and slapstick comedy (Terry Gilliam, Harold Ramis, Gore Verbinski), find better jokes, make the story more simpler, expand upon the characters, do some recasting, (Tom Hanks, James Earl Jones, Mary-Kate Olsen and Linda Fliorentino,) rework the script… now that I think about it, just make a different movie. Nothing can be saved, make a different movie!
You can tell a lot of effort went into this and I have a lot of respect for that, but it misses the point of the original show and streams so off course that it's insulting. It often just doesn't come across feeling like an Inspector Gadget movie, but more like a romantic comedy about a cop who loves a scientist. You could cut the hat and coat out, and the connections to the show entirely, and just make it about a dorky police officer who becomes a robot and learns the value of love while also being the hero, and it would be… alright. It's been done before with a robot loving a human like Bicentennial Man the same year but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing and I do think that Disney could bring something to it to make it unique. But when the direction is so confused on who the target audience is supposed to be, how the project's supposed to work and what is and isn't connected to, then it just falls apart very quickly.
On the other hand, you could've made an interesting Inspector Gadget movie that's a prequel to the original show which still could've been canon and connected to the original show. Just make Gadget overly confident and yet a bumbling moron and not a dorky loser, NEVER show Dr. Claw and make him a runaway wanted terrorist, and Penny solving most of the case. I think a secret agent jewel-heist Inspector Gadget movie would've been more interesting because we know that Gadget WAS a secret agent in the show, and there are many movies with this concept that's already proven that it could work like Spy Hard, Tuxedo, Spy Kids, Austin Powers, or The Pink Panther. What I'm trying to say is that there are many ways that this movie could've been good but it takes a little more than one scene or one moment to change. It definitely feels like a too many cooks' situations where there wasn't enough good direction and thus it comes out… not good. The movie's not good.

2 felt like the cartoon. I'm watching 1 right after 2 and 🥱😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
Brandon Fraser or Jim Carrey would have elevated these movie's,But not by much unfortunately 😅
One big F on Disney's part, is that they censored the location of the town the film takes place in:
TV Series: Fictional City of Riverton, Ohio, Live-Action Films: Real Life Town of Riverton, Oregon.
Inspector Gadget 1 is more Son of the Mask vibes than The Mask. Because that and Son of the Mask both hardly cut back on the wacky shit that may be too much for their target audience.
They’re both on the same level.
I watched both of them since I haven't seen them when I was a kid and yeah they were both bad. Though 2 is better than 1, but it's not very much.
Personally I love the cartoon hated the second live action movie so much though and I loved the first one. They went a different direction with it and I actually loved how cheesy and stupid it was. To each their own.
Ha ha! Lol ❤️😂love both videos!
I think there are a lot of ways they could've shot claw better in the first film. The second film made several good choices on how to hide his face.
For example, in the first film, when he rises out of the limo at the beginning personally, I would've used the smoke or over the shoulder shot. In other words simple filming tricks. As for that helicopter scene well in the show claw always escapes justice. In other words the scene would need to be written as either let the villain get away or save the girl. Cliched? yes but the goal is to keep claws face hidden.
That said which film is better? After watching some of the cartoons after the films I'd definitely say the second film. The first film ain't too bad hell it's Disney actually letting loose and making a fun movie.
There will be no "Gadget-freaking" on Disney's watch!
In the first movie i cant tell if gadget is too stupid or not stupid enough
The romance between Gadget and G2 takes time to developed. We saw them spending time together (Her refusing his help then accepting it after he saves her life.) It wasn't rushed and weird like in the first movie. Gadget was STALKING her with cameras before he became half-robot which is creepy AND looked at her butt when she was helping him. That's not romantic, it's gross 🤢He did nothing that strange in the second movie.
I prefer Penny in the second movie. She does EVERYTHING she can to help her uncle which is nice, she looks for clues and is proactive; the kid even go the the villain's lair that's brave! Yes Penny got captured but the girl still did her best! She is barely there in the first movie, does nothing important except comforting a villain... that's it! This character is not really useful in IG1 😐
I liked the second one better
Inspector Gadget 2 has terrible cgi
Rudol Von Stroheim (of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fame) would destroy this guy in a fight
I loved the 1st inspector gadget movie when I was little. Now I can say that the movie is an embarrassment
You are wrong the second film is worse than the first one but the only thing I don’t like about the first one is that the comedy was worse
Broderick was so miscast. Adam Sandler would have made an interesting Gadget.
I really love the first one
Yeah me too the second has less budget i guees
