I have always loved this movie because I love TMNT so much. The 2003 is probably my favorite show of all time that I’ve rewatched countless times. I’ve never seen anything about the 80s turtles but if a show came out now that had these 2003 versions and made a poor representation parody of them I would be heartbroken. So I understand that critique
No
Hey , he didnt enjoy the movie , let him enjoy it.@@firestriker3580
14:32 I interpret this as Mikey’s boiling point. He realized that the Utrom Shredder’s back and had flashbacks to when he and the others almost died in season three.
It was actually mentioned by some of the people working on Turtles Forever that they actually weren’t given the ‘87 series to watch at all, just some short clips and mostly screenshots. Many who worked on the project also didn’t like too much how the ‘87 Turtles were treated, because they could be goofy sometimes, but could get serious when they needed to. Although it was supposed to have a contrast of the ‘03 finding the ‘87 Turtles weird and kinda cringe only for the ‘84 Turtles to find the ‘03 Turtles also kinda cringe… with a message of accepting all generations for their strengths and flaws, but I think they ended up harping on the ‘87 Turtles too much and cut scenes like Splinter telling them to knock it off from the TV cut that helped explain the message better.
I heard about that too from J’s reviews
The way the 87 Turtles were portrayed in this movie was apparently due to the influence of Peter Laird.
Peter supposedly only liked some things in the first season and then stopped watching because it was too silly for him.
Back in 2012 he even commented this on his blog:
"... had I (again, speaking solely for myself and not for Kevin) been making the key creative decisions for that first animated series, it would have been VERY different. Among other things, there would likely have been no moronic henchmen like Bebop and Rocksteady. The Shredder would have been seriously malevolent. April would not have been a reporter and constantly need to be rescued by the Turtles. The Turtles would not have been so ridiculously obsessed with pizza, and the Shredder would not have had as one of his businesses a restaurant called "Ninja Pizza"... And the show would not have had a joke or gag every five seconds."
Peter wasn't a big fan of the 80's cartoon, but i don't think he straight up hates them or anything, that's only the case for Next Mutation, who weren't even allowed to be on the multiverse slideshow. Peter even directly prohibited TMNT 2007 from having any kind of reference to Venus.
It’s more to do with 4kids.
@@dwainsimmons3447No it was due to Peter Laird
No he DOES hate the 80s cartoon dude
Nah Laird def hates the cartoons
@@dwainsimmons3447 look at J’s review of turtles forever it shows that yes Peter laird was responsible for them being a parody of themselves.
The Turtles Forever TV film was a satisfying way to bring TMNT (2003) to a close.
One word to describe this: "COWABUNGA!!!"
It's a shame that Cameron Clarke(Leonardo/Rocksteady),Townsend Coleman(Michaelangelo),Robert Paulsen(Raphael),Barry Gordon(Donatello/Bebop),Renae Jacobs(April O'Neil),Peter Renaday(Splinter/Vernon),Jennifer Darling(Irma),Patrick Fraley(Krang) and of course the late James Avery(The Shredder) didn't do this.
The other thing about the 87 Turtles in the movie is that Peter Laird really doesn't like the Turtles in the 80's and 90's era as he saw it as a farse of the Turtles he co created
But they aren’t
@@firestriker3580tell that to him
@@firestriker3580Yeah they aren’t, but Peter didn’t like them. & as him being the creator of the turtles they had to go by off his liking for the movie
Of course the 80s turtles cartoon helped expand the audience. Before the toyline and the 80s cartoon I never knew there was a comic
@@glally1 Yeah the comics was how it all started. Peter Laird (The creator of the turtles) wrote the mirage Tmnt comics. The mirage are the black & white turtles in the turtles forever movie. & Laird has a strong disliking to the 80’s turtles, which is why they were portrayed as goofballs in the movie
14:10 It's a nod to how Most of Donatello's jokes in the 80s show makes no sense
No it isn’t and they do make sense
@@firestriker3580in what regard?
As an 80s baby and 90s kid, the 1987 Turtles were huge. I’m surprised how many of you yunguns have never seen it. It was the longest running animated series on US TV, but that record was broken again by the Simpsons a few months later.
That was what got me into Ninja turtles, when the 80s cartoon launched.
I watched a bit of it prefer the 1984 comics and 1990 movie the cartoon was just kinda boring honestly.
The 2003 series is my favorite, as I grew up with it. But I have watched the 87 Turtles series and the 90s films because my older brothers and cousins as 80s kids grew up with the 87 series.
I liked this movie but in later years i think it aged BADLY. It portrays the 1987 characters as almost 100% worthles, stupid & lame & portray the 2003 characters as assholes, douchebags & Karens with anti-1987 TMNT complains. Its mostly a propaganda film that nags that the 1987 series are crappy & only are in favor of 2003 series than being a way of celebrating 25 years of the TMNT franchise, its like its the only purpose with this movie. I understand why Peter laird & Kevin eastman didnt like the 1987 series, but is wierd that they seemed to hate everything about the 1987 series, and thats kinda unrealistic & childish of them. And if 4Kids could make their own cartoons, like the 2003 TMNT series, they SHOULD have spent their time & ony doing so more often than just dubbing animes & in my oppinion ruin anime for us Western viewers. I also think the 2003 VAs that lended their voices to the 2003-series should do more REAl voice acting, than dub-voice acting for anime, like Scottie Ray, Michael Sinterniklaas, Wayne Grayson, Greg Abbey, Veronica Taylor, David Zen Mansley, Sean Schemmel, Megan Hollingshead & Dan Green for instance. I think they, ESPECIALLY Scottie Ray, waste their time & talent on just dubbing animes when they should do regular voice acting for american cartoons, like Sam Riegel did for the 2017 Duck Tales reboot. They sure was missing in the 2012 TMNT series, even Sam Riegel. Its also sad they they didnt use any of the 1987 voice actors too for this movie. Great review of this video. P.S. It DOESN'T make any sense that Leo, Ralph & Mikey knew that Hun was talking about the Utrom Shredder or that Hun, Karai or Utrom Shredder calls him the One True Shredder since the Tengu was called the One True Shredder.
URGH I LOVE 87 RAPHAEL IN THIS MOVIE
Nice video, new subscriber!
I’ve been reading the IDW comic book series and it is my second favorite version. If you were able to read them and make videos I’d love to hear your thoughts
You should Review the TMNT 2007 movie, CGI is a bit dated but it has some cool action scenes
Gonna take a break from TMNT for a while, but I wouldn't mind doing it eventually.
How is it outdated
I used to love this movie when I first saw it in 2009. Now? Now I find it to be pretty bad due to all of the bashing the 1987 TMNT series got. I still love the 2003 TMNT series, but not in Turtles Forever.
It’s really just about how they were written in the movie, I think the 03 turtles (besides Raph) would be more accepting to the 87 turtles
@@Kenny-iy1poNo the 2003 turtles suck
I never seen the older ones since I was born in 1993. But the 2003 show fell off when 4Kids got the rights to the show. The censoring made it so bad and it was too cartoonish. The 80s turtles was comedy but it was another time back then. I liked the movie but how the series ended was just bad.
And that’s why people hate 4kids for this.
They almost ruined the 1987 Turtles
No. Peter Laird
2003 better
Nope 1987 better
@@firestriker3580 yeah sure it is
@@firestriker3580 must be 30
@@JordanWilliams_Link7702And you must be 12
@@JordanWilliams_Link77021987 is bette
2:07 I could do a better '87 Mikey voice than him
HOP OFF
Cuz 87 turtle's are goofy
They aren’t goofy
@firestriker3580 they are, just look at them and how they act aswell
@@JordanWilliams_Link7702No they aren’t. You never watched the original tmnt 1987 show because they weren’t that goofy
@@firestrikerii810There absolutely were goofy elements, but they weren't brain-dead.
THATS WHAT IM SAYING!
