Deception. Period.
Its gameplay was more broken than deadly alliance, but the overall experience is the best of any MK has ever offered.
You had your main tower, you had online play, you had bonus games like puzzle and chess if you got bored of 1v1. And then you had conquest. Which allows you to dive into the MK lore and explore the realms and find things. It was simple yet amazing. They introduced a new finishing move, brought back stage fatalities, had multi-level stages. I mean it was just awesome all around. The krypt wasn't garbage, and there was an actual secrets and unlockables.
I love trilogy. One of my all-time favorites. But let's be real, there's nothing to do in it. If you're going strictly on fighting mechanic gameplay that's all it has to offer. But at least the 64 version offered two on two and three on three.
If I could build my perfect MK game?
It would play like trilogy or MK9, it would have the overall presentation and modes of deception, tossed in with motor Kombat and create a fighter from Armageddon.
Trilogy felt very rushed. Too many bugs and zero thought given to balance. Also hated the fact that the character models were smaller than previous. UMK3 had more polish and love.

Trilogy felt good. People love to fixate on "balance" and graphics these days... I've always enjoyed MKT, never finding it so "buggy". The important aspect of Trilogy to appreciate is that MKT is a case of giving the people what they asked for. MK fans like myself fantasized about cramming all characters into one game and Midway made it happen. I would suggest there was no better MK for the home in 1997 than the disc versions of MKT for it's arcade quality performance and CD quality soundtrack.
I'm just happy I still have MK9 on Steam. I'm thinking about getting a disc for the ps3 as well. However, the MK 1-3 are still respectable for the amount of characters you can get.

I’m a very critical MK fan, so there’s not a perfect game in this series but My top 3 would probably be MK9, MK Deception, and(you’re not gonna like this, but it’s) MK1(which is not a perfect game, but there’s a lot that I like)
MK9’s combat, story, music, stage design, character designs all feels like a love note to the franchise.
MK Deception has a great Konquest mode, with the beginning of the variation system in its gameplay since everyone had up to 3 battle styles.
MK1 has the best arcade endings ever imo, the 2nd best story mode, some decent music(better than the last 2 games at least), it’s feels like a love note to the 3D era, I enjoy the ever changing towers in the nexus area of the invasions(invasions overall sucks, but I would at least keep those ever changing towers because I think it’s fun to play refreshed towers), and we also got solid character and stage designs that I think makes sense lore wise given Liu Kang’s new era(though I prefer the designs in MK9)
One for life? the OG of course. Its Mortal Kombat in its purest form.

I told my friend that I think it's not fun because the ranked mode is what Ed boon wanted to do/test out. For the most part, it was confusing and it made a lot of ppl pissed off. I watch all of ya'lls vidoes, It's rediculous how mad yall are at NRS - Ultimately I play with my close friends and its always close or not. We are ALWAYS enjoying ourselves. I always agree with ur nerfs/unnerfs
My top 3 would be:
1: Ultimate MK 3 - Maybe Trilogy but I never actually played it aside from one match at a friend's place so I'm not sure.
2: MK9
3: Original MK - I had the MSDOS version on my computer back in the day and played a ton of it. It looked better than the Genesis version and had all the blood and fatalities missing from the SNES version.
Another reason for me to pick UMK3 (or Trilogy) as my number one is that I feel that MK lost some of its identity once it went to using 3D characters. Even though I really enjoyed 9, in my heart true MK uses the digitized actors.
For me, it’s probably MK9. It’s got the perfect roster(imo at least), it’s character designs where great for characters like Scorpion, Smoke, and Raiden, the game still had those majestic elements that made the series so special and unique(MKX/MK11 would ruin this later with too much Special Forces and gun related characters. Thankfully MK1 fixed this by reducing those elements, which is one of the better things about MK1). It’s great when MK mainly focuses on its supernatural elements which is what makes the series so great to me, also newer versions of the OG Trilogy stage music that MK9 was also amazing. I love hearing that music when I play the game, and it’s also the last game before NRS became a place for political beliefs. The story is good too, minus Shang Tsung’s portrayal and couple of weird and dumb moments here and there
If I could only choose 1 game, it would probably be MK 9. MK X is a close second choice for me. the orignial MK 2 would be my third pick for when I'm feeling nostalgic.
Mk 9 was a blessing great gameplay good roster story mode was mk 1 through 3 it was awesome

But the gameplay is clunky like all 3d era bruh

UMK3 for life! That was the sickest MK ever! When I experienced MK3 in the arcades I was hooked.
Oh boy, it's a tough choice between MK9 and Trilogy. I'll go Trilogy (even so I like UMK3 more but it didn't have some of the characters).
my #1 would have to be mk4 on n64.. was my first mk, i still jump on here and there and have a mad time.
2nd would be deception and 3rd shaolin monks
I would have a very different list because I couldn't do combos or Kombos until mortal Kombat Deception,and my friend greatly took advantage of my not knowing how to do combos.
I know they built the game around it but I still want to see an MK1 no kameo mode just to see how it is.
MK triology, MK 9 and MK Deception or MK 9, Deception and Shaolin monks. A good mix of MK bests
I would probably play some mugen MK game, with all MK characters, all stages, all fatalities and all main content in there. That would be enough for me for sure. But then there is MK Armageddon. Sure, I like that game but the problem is that it is not on PC. Again, I know that emulation exist but it would be a lot better if it was actually ported to PC.

I wold love a remake of MK trilogy, i known that mk9 is considered the mktrilogy remake, but i just don't like the gameplay overall, i like the impact and speed of mk3 more.

if all mortals had the same level of netcode - then mk11/mk9 = both games have - neutral game, and a lot of defensive options, all the rest of the mortals are tragically balanced, have a lot of neutral skips, are oppressive/rushdown oriented, combos are too long, alot of cheap tactics, and a constant 50/50, and they have almost no neutral play,
Mk 1, 2, 3 ultimate, deception and nine.

MK1-2-3-9 console broke after mk3 came so haven't played others till 9 -10-11-THEN MK1 so MK1-2-3 for me

I’m sorry FATE but this MK left a very bad taste in my mouth. I always been a mortal kombat fan but lbh SF6 Is how you is the very definition of fun and shows appreciation to its fans. From adding old music, to just having consistency in news and QoL improvements.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy is Afcourse Top Tier MK, now i'm being as objective as possible as MK1 is without a doubt the worst MK Game ever made on the Combat system and presentation, followed by MK11 and MKX, i will say as both Games share the same problems as MK1, i find that a shame because MKX at least had some great things but a weaker roster and to much quest Characters and the Characters are a downgrade on design, instead they should have focused on adding more MK Characters that where missing. MK 9 is the only one i still need to play before i can give an opinion but it does Look Great on the Combat and howe the Characters Look, MK Armageddon whas great because of the Creation mode, but i didn't really Like the combat system itself, so what would i pick?! MK Trilogy, and if MK9 is as Good as i think it is that one probably could change my choice, otherwise as close second really

Havoc: He needs at least five new attack strings, he needs his legacy move that titan havoc has were he takes off his head and rolls it but its a mid, has the same affect as reptiles acid ball, and also hits mid exploding on contact. he also needs another one of his legacy moves that again titan havoc has where he bends his hole body for a low projectile and the amp of that can be a knock down allowing for combo extentions for cameos like scorpion
Sub-zero: he needs his attack strings made slightly faster except for his overhead, he also needs 1 or 2 new attack string launchers, both his regular and amp iceball needs to be faster to not only be able to combo with it off of normal attack strings but in juggle combos too. He should have the ability to throw his ice clone, i also think he should have his ice burst special back with the same proporties as mkx to compliment his ice clone(but just does not send you that far away). lastly he needs some of his damage scailing off ground freeze.
Scorpion: should be buffed by making his amp ground tp a launcher again and make the cancel built in to both his regular and amp tp. buff the amp hellfire move by removing the damage over time and making it function like how it does in mkx allowing him to combo after hitting it. he needs new strings some mix ups(i personally want his mkx overhead back). some moves need to be sped up
Quan shi: needs his mind control move from mkx back, and make half his attack strings faster. and finally his low tentacle needs to be one bar
Raiden: change raiden's b2 back to the mkx launcher but make it as slow as sub'z b2. give him back his vicinity blast move back with the same properties as mkx. Give him back his mkx amp lightning projectile back for combo extentions but have his regular fully charged move have the same proportys as the amp. he also needs to be buffed by making his amp electrocute special launch no matter how many bars he uses
liu kang: for starters nerf his f4 one button pressure but give him his 113 mkx launcher back along with maybe 2 or 3 more new attack strings to make up for his pressure and to make it less braindead. make his low fireball slightly faster, change his air fireball to the mkx fireball and the amp the one we have now. give him back his mk 11 dragon parry, and finally make his fatal blow start up 2 hits but the first one restands
kung lao: nerf tf out of his wake up special by making it unsafe af on block. give him back his mkx or 9 spin back but have it have work the same as mk11 so he can use it more than two times in a combo. swap his dive kick now for a mix between his mkx or 9 dive kick. he needs his mkx tp, and his low hat back, but nerf his mix up buttion's he has now by making the overhead follow up slightly slower. give him his mk11 21212 attack string and his mkx 44 launcher attack string back. and also he needs his hat spin.
Nitara: buff her by making her command dash like homelander so for instance all of her normal attack strings that leaves her in the air cost no bar anymore to command dash and it cost no bar when she is in the air command dashing for combos but the next one after that does. and also make fer overhead that leaver her in the air slightly faster. lastly give her back her legacy projectile move back.
