    Hi Shrimp Mania. I was wondering if there's any issues with adding cycling bacteria for this setup? I'm about 2 weeks in to the cycling process and have yet to see any rise in nitrite levels and drops in ammonia. I've seen very small biofilm clouds and have just done the 2 week water change. I assume going the natural longer route is to build algae/biofilm for the shrimp but if this can be sped up with SeaChem Stability, why not?

    • @ShrimpMania

      Hey I don't believe in bacterial in the bottles and I'm using bacterial powder instead. 2 weeks is still too early for any result.

      @@ShrimpMania
      Hi Shrimp Mania. It's been about 2.5 months since I started the tank and I have no results. I was wondering if you've ever ran into the issue?
      I followed the video of using the BacterAe, changing the water, etc, but at this point, I've seen no nitrates nor any changes in ammonia/nitrites. My ammonia was very high at > 4ppm early on using ADA Amazonia and after several water changes I've reduced it to 0.5ppm. However, with both BacterAe and bacteria starter, I still see no results in the last 2-3 weeks after the ammonia reduction. Also throughout the whole process, I saw just some accumulations of biofilm clouds but no other algae growth.
      I believe the high ammonia levels at first was the main disruption to the cycle.

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  2 года назад +1

      @@mccandokao I haven't use bacter ae for cycling the tank but it should work just fine. Just keep an eye on ammonia level once it's gone means tank is ready for shrimp. It can take up to 12 weeks with ada amazonia. Algae is not so important it will grow eventually

    • @mccandokao
      @mccandokao Год назад

      @@ShrimpMania Hi Shrimp Mania. Wanted to ask how long your ADA Amazonia buffering capability lasts. After about 3-4 months, pH is sitting at 7.4 for me but I did add a few gallons of treated tap water (during cycle) so perhaps that stripped it.

      So, with Caridina, I use active soil, Ro water and add back shrimp elements? I am still confused to the different requirements for Cridina vs neo. I really do appreciate any advice and you time.

    • @ShrimpMania
      @ShrimpMania  3 года назад

      Yes thats tight Caridina need softer water with PH 6 or below thats why you using active soil which buffer the water and dropping PH to the right level. RO water is pure water with nothing in it but caridina shrimps need some GH in the water thats why you adding salts for shrimps to add some minerals

    I was in my local shop today wanting to pickup ada soil and the sales person got me all confused with his halfass opinions. They have all 3 bags of ada amazonia (colored package, greyish pack, v2 pack). Now which of those 3 kinds has the lowest fertilizers? 😵‍💫
    From my knowledge the colored pack (same as in your video) is the one to get, but im now totally unsure.

    I think of setting a ugf like that.. however I’m wondering the filter height is off the tank bottom..
    Wouldn’t it be better if the ugf be totally at the bottom of the tank?
    Any reason for the elevation?
    For the thin layer of soil on bottom.. how do we clean? Fan up the dirty and suck it out?
