Hi, people in Taiwan/Japan had been doing this diy natto bacteria + sugar(to feed the bacteria) liquid solution ,and some companies even sell these types of solutions(in liquid and powdered forms). Maybe you can give it a try next time replacing the bacter ae with natto bacteria powder and since you use grounded soybeans you probably won't need to use sugar because natto bacteria is used to ferment soybeans in Japan.

Great video, instead of soy beans do you think a protein source of ground almond nuts would be ok? Thinking of giving this a go! Your thoughts on this would be great!!
Great video! Thanks! I am using your DIY recipe to start a new shrimp tank now. Can't find dry soy beans here and don't have a grinder. So I am using "chick pea" flour from a health food shop instead. It's 100 chick peas already ground up, with zero additives. 60 liter tank. So I'm using the same Bacter AE scoop... 3 scoops of BACTER AE, 2 scoops of dry yeast powder, and 7 scoops of chick pea flour. Put it all in a small jar, gave it a good shake... Turned off my sponge filter and dosed the whole tank (already has RO water in it.). I'll turn the sponge filter back on after a couple of hours when DIY biofilm starter has settled into the Japanese Soil (black, normal). Will let you know how it looks after five days. Thanks!!!
@@ShrimpMania WOW! Just 24 hours after seeding with the DIY BACTER AE, DRY YEAST, CHICK PEA FLOUR.... nice white fuzz biofilm already proliferating on the rocks and sunken driftwood. MOST IMPORTANTLY, from another "Shrimp Mania" video that talked about using "white sweet potato" slices to promote biofilm. I did not have "white sweet potatoes." So I tried slices of peeled radish and slices of peeled carrot. After 24 hours with the DIY chick pea biofilm starter, the slice of radish has a huge pillow puff of white biofilm. The carrots are doing nothing. I am now putting 5 more slices of radish around my tank to continue this trick I learned from Shrimp Mania. (but RADDISH instead of white sweet potato). Thanks Shrimp Mania!!!!
I had to break it down when I closed my old shrimp room almost a year ago. It was doing ok, shrimp breed ok not too crazy, I don't think that soil is very good, I wouldn't use it for high end caridina

I have just white LEDs I don’t think full spectrum needed. Soil is quite important it should be fertile to provide minerals for algae to grow also bacterial powder helps a lot

Hi xx I have been using your method of setting up tanks but my bacterial powder floats off when I add water. I am always so careful when adding it but no matter what method I do the powder floats and settles all over the bottom x can you help please?

may I know if you use RO water?
yes always
During the cycling how big is the water flow from the ugf is it full power setting
