Amazing video! I was super impressed to see you’re still answering questions 4 years later! Question: using the storage method outlined, how long can we expect this food to last before “going off”?
My advice is; use up all the dough guys!!! No matter how tedious it is!!! :) I made a big ball of dough from all kinds of mashed omnivorous and carnivorous fish flakes and spirulina powder, and a little tank water. I rolled it to a thin string, cut it up and let the cuttings air-dry over night. Great stuff! They jump on it like crazy! Yet I got so much from half of it already, so I stored the leftover dough in a airtight bag. Which I shouldn't have done since it moulded away...... Nyèèèhh!!!!
I had some leftover fish food i wasn't gonna use so I went down to local river and popped it in there and watched all the baby fish eat it. I'm such a child lol.
Dear Mark, thank you sooo much . I use your method with a liitle bit change . I add : montmorillonite clay powder, Spirulina powder, egg , spinach powder , flour , brain shrimp powder , bacter AE , honey pollen to it. I hope my shrimps love it :))
Just found your channel : I have tried chickpeas flour, spinach, wallnut leaves, spirulina + 1 egg to make a consistent dough. now 100° C in the oven. Even the spinach leaves boiled for little moment, and even the guppies ate it. together with the neocaridina's. Thanks for ya TIP !!
Thank you for sharing this recipe. Can Opae Ula shrimp also eat this food or is it only for fresh water shrimp? I thought I should ask since they are brackish water shrimp. I’m new to keeping shrimp. 😊
I recently made a similar recipe called something like aquatic snail cookies, some of the same ingredients, but more and the mixture was more gloopy. You bake it, cut it up and store it in the freezer. This consistency seems better. When I have more ingredients I'm going to try again, using this method, basically make pastry with ingredients your pets like. Right now I'm feeding snails, shrimp and isopods, it's funny, they all kind of eat the same stuff.
Very nice! Some suggestions: You can split a larger zip lock bag and sandwich the dough between the plastic sheets before rolling it out to make it easier on you (this is a common technique when making corn tortillas, which lack any gluten to bind them, from scratch at home - check out a video for more info on this) If you are in Europe you should be able to access nettle tea easily enough. The nutritional content is significantly higher than spinach. If you have an excess of duckweed or azolla, you can scoop that out and dehydrate it to use in place of the spinach - either is very high in nutrients and you're creating more of a closed loop ecosystem by doing this. Also it's completely free to do.
@@MarksShrimpTanksHi Mark, I followed your steps and I made this shrimp food but added also powdered banana and powdered carrot. The shrimp loved this! Using the food dehydrator instead of an oven really allowed me to make this food fast. Interestingly when the food comes out it is dark green but once you place it in the tank (glass dish), it becomes bright green and slowly dissolves and the shrimp love it. I will add powdered leaves, and spirulina in my next batch. Thanks again. Great video!
Great work thanks for sharing. We made our own fish/shrimp food with equal parts of dried Moringa leaves from our garden and organic oats then a bit of dried Dandelion root. Blended all to fine powder then used similar steps here. Think we will use pizza wheel to cut it next time....
thanks for video , how to make spinach powder ? is it pussible in air fryer ? and can I mix to this food bacter AE ? and what kind of flour do you use it ? plain flour for bread or baking is okay ?
Could you sandwich the ball in baking-paper / wax-paper before you start to roll it, so you dont need get green powder everywhere. Thats how i do when i make beef jerky from ground beef.
I don't know if this would work for shrimp but decades ago I would raise and sell hundreds of cichlids each year. I needed a fish food that I could feed to the smallest fry and up to the largest fish I owned (an eight pound black pacu). I'd pull out my old blender, cut up a small carrot and toss it into the blender with a couple of tablespoons of water and liquefy it. Then I'd add a small can of spinach, four oz of beef liver, three or four medium sized shelled shrimp and finally a dozen eggs. Then I'd run the blender until I got what looked like a green milkshake. Next I'd put a large non stick skillet on the range and on low heat I'd jell the green liquid into what looked like green scrambled eggs. Stirring and being careful to not get it too hot until it had jelled up pretty firmly. Next it got spread out on a baking tray on parchment paper spreading it as thin as I could. Then it went into the freezer for only long enough to set it firmly. At that point I'd take it out and cut it into squares, put into a zip lock bag and freeze completely. I'd break off a piece and holding it in between two fingers press it and it would dissolve and break apart. You could leave it as large chunks for bigger fish down to what looked like dust for smaller fish. I never found any type of fish or other tank inhabitant that didn't eat it readily. The pacu never ate anything else over the years. Fish are very high in protein and prefer a diet high in protein but even fish that lived on plants readily ate it and I imagine so would freshwater shrimp. I may give it a try in the future. I'm in the process of setting up a planted tank for shrimp at the moment.
This would be perfect to run through a pasta machine to make spaghetti noodles, dry it then snap it into tiny pellets. Add any pwd protein, algae, calcium, vegetables to this recipe to customize this for any fish, shrimp or snails!

I have 1 question, I am having trouble increasing the KH and GH in my blue dream tank without sending the TDS through the roof. I don't have access to RO water and I'm using pretty soft tap water...(4 kh/GH) any tips on keeping the parameters right without raising the TDS to crazy levels?
Thank you for the great video has helped me loads ! Just a quick question - what type of flour would you say is best to use? And the ratios of each ingredients please? Thank you x
You can use a lot of different types of flours like rice flours or chickpea flour dont use barley flour though because it swells up and make the food float, ratios on this were just one egg, 50g of flour and 50g of spinach, I actually made all the spinach myself too,to get 1kg of spinach we had to collect 3 x 25 liter buckets of fresh spinach :D

Thank you Sir :)
Hi Mark!! thank you for all the incredible shrimp advice you offer to the community.
Yes, absolutely.. try get yourself some crushed coral, in a 50 liter tank you only need a small cup ful to raise your parameters a little
awesome video mark , what about the ratio between flour and the spinach powder? Also can i use mulberry and beach leaves instead of spinach
I just used the same amounts for everything and yes you can use the other things you mentioned :)
Cool video bro, helped us a lot. Cheers from Mexico :)
thanks mark...u the da best
Thank you for the great video has helped me loads ! Just a quick question - what type of flour would you say is best to use? And the ratios of each ingredients please? Thank you x
You can use a lot of different types of flours like rice flours or chickpea flour dont use barley flour though because it swells up and make the food float, ratios on this were just one egg, 50g of flour and 50g of spinach, I actually made all the spinach myself too,to get 1kg of spinach we had to collect 3 x 25 liter buckets of fresh spinach :D
@@MarksShrimpTanks thank you so much for getting back to me I'm so excited to give it ago! 😍 x
You are very welcome EI :)
