I use egg and ground egg shell with powdered nettles and dry out in the oven to make my food sink. I added the powder egg shells mostly because I get worried about calcium and I know egg shell is edible:)
Great video. I have found pulverizing the leaves dry breaks them down much quicker. I use duckweed dried at room temp air then pulverized dry into powder.
Thank you so much! After I watched your video where you mentioned your homemade food, I was looking all over for how to videos. At last, here it is! Keep these coming, please. The duckweed sounds interesting, though I don’t have any (yet), and the protein version, bloodworms... I’m waiting rather impatiently for my tank to cycle, and our Michigan weather to clear so I can get my first shrimp. Feels like it’s never going to happen. But I want to be ready when it does. Thanks agsin.
You've inspired me to make my own! I've been using Dennerle to feed my various types of neocaridina. Thank you and please keep this video series going!
Thank you!! Would love to see your duckweed food, have been looking everywhere for some diy shrimp foods 💕 would really appreciate the recipes with quantities etc in the video & description too please 🙏
Thanks a lot Soo Shrimp Breeder!!! I have order all the ingredients as yours and guess what! All my shrimps love it I wish I can send some pictures here for you to see the love of the food.
Great video looks like you cover all the bases as far as good nutrients for the shrimp. I harvest pounds of duck weed from one of my tanks monthly, so that would be a great video. I have one question. Do you have to remove any possible leftovers?
Been waiting on this one. Hope to hear about a nettle blend update in the future. One question; what exactly gets done to that tanon rich water? Do you just dump into a random tank? Do you have to treat it for gh/kh/tds levels etc.? Ok, that was more than one question....🤣
I usually boil my almond leaves and alder cones before adding them to the tank to kill anything that might be on them. I than add the leaves and the water, once cooled, to my tanks
uh i love your work. Amazing and you're so kind and calming. Love it. And that you show, that diy is still a thing! =) Can you put your ingredients in the video description pleas?
Great video!!! Questions... 1. Does it scatter? 2. Will it foul the water? 3. Do you need to use any "binder" so that it won't breakdown in the tank? If yes, what is it and also the amount needed? Appreciate your feedback and i can't wait to make some for my shrimps as well. The commercial ones are really really expensive! Thanks!
Awesome video Nathan! Loved seeing your food making process! One thing if you do decide to make a blood worm food, be very careful! I dont know about you, but I know Im severely allergic to blood worms, actually a lot of ppl are cause there is even a warning on my container of dried blood worms regarding this. If I touch dried or even frozen blood worms and forget to wash my hands, then touch near my eyes or mouth then I suffer dearly..... the area swells and reddens and becomes so itchy, its pure hell! So just use caution.... even if you're not allergic yet one can develop an allergy to such things if exposed to it alot.
Hi followed your guide although not ingredients wise. Mostly made up of stuff I had. I used a coffee grinder to get things super fine. The only issue is the baking paper/parchment. It didn't lift off like yours so had to scrape it off. Would silicon baking tray liners work?
Awesome Vid! What fish have you found success with keeping with shrimp I have heard alot of differing advice and was hoping to hear it from an experienced shrimp breeder/specialist
I don't normally make food. I just thought one day I'll do cute otherwise I'll spend a small fortune. I will most likely blend the leaves to a powder next time
Could you please put the other recipes in the description if you don't necessarily do a video? I would love to make them. Thanks Nathan. Also, where do you get the mulberry and indian almond leaves (aka catappa leaves)?
i will make a list soon. i have never thought about selling it. i keep changing it a little from time to time to adjust what i think they need so i never thought to sell it
Can you make a video of food for beginners who don't have all that fancy almond leaves and stuff? Like can I feed boiled cucumber or spinach or something? Also are you going to make that gravel vac video soon?
By the way, I've been making my own food for quite a while - I use a meat grinder to get it in pellet-form and dry it in the oven. I use 1/3 of the weight in the raw-material of shrimp-snow - soy bran. Because of that, the food falls apart quicker, which I like because then not only the big shrimp that sit directly on the food get something, but the smaller ones around as well. But I also use a little glass dish for feeding
I wish I have enough time to make those foods for my shrimps. I heard from some expert breeder that they add some yeast to shrimp food to help the digestion and the result is quite good. Have you tried this ingredient?
Water quality, too much food, not enough plants, too hot, too cold. It's endless without more info. If they all died I would suspect water issues. Most likely not quick enough break down of nitrates
Seems like every organic thing suitable for them.. Except like.. Processed food and food that have some chemicals in it or using lot of minerals and stuffs like that. These stuffs are dangerous. Some people even feed their shrimp with just leaf and vegetables like cucumber, lettuce, etc. Raw fish meat also suitable seems like.

Great video Nathan, the content is really good as always but the sound is so much better too. Thank you.
Awesome video! Would love to se more food making of any kind!
Great video. I've seen videos of people using egg which was weird. But your approach looks really good. Will try when I have a free day to test this
Nice one, good thing with this kind of videos how to....What to use to combine few powdered foods in to pellets
3gg yolk only will help make it ferm up so you can make it into small pellet size
Awesome videos dude👍👍👍 lov u'r Instagram page as well... beautiful shrimps 🍤🍤🍤
I would love to have a good use for duck weed! I feel bad throwing it out but it multiplies so quickly!!
Thanks for this video!
At minute 5:30 moreless you use a white powder ... what is that powder?
thankyou great to see a new way to make food . keep up the new ideas , what do to use chlorella for?
I use that in another shrimp food.
Very informative
Love your video so much.
thanks
Nice work
Awesome information! Really appreciate it!
You can perhaps use a coffee blade grinder to finely chop the dried leaves. Nice video!
I should yeah....i just have always done it this way
I'm going to try this method. Thanks

Does your food turn your water green? Also, put your leaves into coffee grinder and it will pulverize the leaves for easier blending.
No it does not
and i will use a grinder next time
Thank you for this recipe. I will make it today!
Love the food videos. Please make more!
Thank you!! Would love to see your duckweed food, have been looking everywhere for some diy shrimp foods 💕 would really appreciate the recipes with quantities etc in the video & description too please 🙏

Just noticed this comment and this is the first time I noticed somebody make it. Mine go crazy over it.
Great video looks like you cover all the bases as far as good nutrients for the shrimp. I harvest pounds of duck weed from one of my tanks monthly, so that would be a great video. I have one question. Do you have to remove any possible leftovers?
i usually remove leftovers from the really low population tanks...say 20 or less. otherwise i just know how much to feed and when
Been waiting on this one. Hope to hear about a nettle blend update in the future. One question; what exactly gets done to that tanon rich water? Do you just dump into a random tank? Do you have to treat it for gh/kh/tds levels etc.?

i added it back to the mix later on. I don't treat it at all no

Great video. Very well done!
if you grind dried beans could that work for a source of protein?
could probably work

I would be happy to type up the recipe, perhaps your Facebook page would be best? But I would want you to proof it.
I will make a list in the next food making video

Hey Bro , Please help, my shrimp not breeding( caridina ) keeping them ( adult ) around 2 month already ...they did molt btw. Please help thanks
i would need a lot more information about the tank to know exactly what's going on
love how you use the aquascape scissors to cut everything :D
I use them for way more things then they were designed for lol
Would this work for any crustacean, say crawfish?
i can't see why not unless they need more protein based foods
Can you give us a list of the ingredients used and what size spoon you used. Please
I will in a later video
Thanks for sharing 😄

Loved this recipe! Thank you. Yes, please to the duck weed and water lettuce food video!
Do Shrimp like Moringa Olifera leaf as well Oats as food? Kindly reply
What is the name of the immune booster powder that you use? Also, the name of the clay for the shrimp shell? Tx
Another question are you using an emersion blender? Why don't you powder the leaves first since they are dried already?

Would love to hear about protein options in homemade food.
will do
I would like to see snowflake food for shrimp. Like
I don't actually make the snowflake food myself i buy it in bulk it's just soybean hulls
Hi sir, whats the name of the clay u use ? thanks
Can agar agar be used to make this a gel food?
Do I have to give my shrimp sinking pellets or can I just feed them with fine powder homemade food??
Wouldn't duckweed work too? You do have to dry it first tho.
Where do I store this food after making it bro?
Could you please put the other recipes in the description if you don't necessarily do a video? I would love to make them. Thanks Nathan. Also, where do you get the mulberry and indian almond leaves (aka catappa leaves)?
I've only made a couple but I can soon cause I'm out or food
yes please make another type
Do you always use made food for them or do you have any food you just put in the tank from the store, after a good washing of course lol
I can't find the exact recipe. Where can I find it.
what if you ground up the leaves before soaking them?
Great video! I'm definitely going to have to try this!
Yea dry grind and then add water....will try that!
Can you write down the ingredients & amounts, please.
Do you sell any of your homemade foods?
i will make a list soon. i have never thought about selling it. i keep changing it a little from time to time to adjust what i think they need so i never thought to sell it
how can you know how much it last to expire?
I've added to much liquid to my feed how can I make it thicker.
i dont have an oven, any other way ?
Salve, che ingredienti ci sono? Grazie
I saw one of your videos that you have 4 different foods with different ingredients. Can you list all 4 for us please?
I will do a more in depth video on food later
@@SooShrimpBreeders thanks. Can't wait
I'd buy your shrimp food. Maybe made in a silicone ice cube tray...dehydrated with some weight on the bottom.
More like this pls

wouldn't a mortar and pestle work better to make the leaves into a paste then add it to the water>
