    Thanks, recently over to the Mercury 115 after many years with Yamaha. Was wondering where the drain is. !

      I really like Merc's system here for oil. I never thought I would be a mercury fan but after owning one, I am impressed. Next outboard will be a merc too.

      So did you replace the sealing washers too? Or did you just inspect?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  4 года назад

      I have not replaced them yet. I can't remember the material they were made from, but I always inspect. Been a while since I posted this video.

    Mr. Garage. So i have a 2019 Pro XS 115. I change my gear oil this weekend base on your video! Great instructions!! I do have a question though. When I removed my prop, I noticed that the plastic ring behind it came out with it. I also noticed that one of the tabs on it was broken off. It seems to go back in fine, but seem to move a little. Should I be worried about that piece? What is it called and what's the purpose behind it? Thanks again!

      you should replace it, its called bore sleeve prop, helps relieve pressure. parts runs about $10 or so

    Great video. Very detailed and helpful. Thanks. But having to take the prop off is insane. The engineer who,designed this should be fired.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  4 года назад

      They did it on purpose, forces you to take the prop off and inspect for line wrapped up around the shaft.

    Thanks for posting. Would tipping engine up help reduce oil coming back out?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  2 года назад

      I would only do it level as shown. Changing angles would also change the overflow point and possibly fill volume.

    With running the Stainless 4 blade did you gain or lose high-end RPM? I have a similar boat with an aluminum 4 blade I want to switch to.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  2 года назад

      Hello, Top end RPM depends on prop pitch vs outboard combined with slip. 4 blades grip the water very well so not as much slip. 17p is great for this hull size with a 115. 19p and you get into the lower 5krpm range.

    Can you give me the details on that prop? I saw 17P?

    Will changing my oil and gear oil myself void mercury warranty?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  3 года назад

      Legally, no. A prick dealer hell bent on forcing you into their service with lies, yes.

    Hello. What is the difference between the Mercury 115 PRO XS with a black bottom and a silver bottom?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  2 года назад

      Silver bottom is the command thrust lower unit with different gear ratio.

    I have the same motor on my tri toon.
    I noticed you have a 4 blade spit fire prop.
    What side is the pitch

      For this boat, 17p and 19p were great options.

    So unless I missed it somewhere and can't find it in the comments, how much lube did it take to fill the case? Thanks

    What engines does this apply to? I have a 2013 90 4 stroke EFI. Mercury is confusing with their nomenclature.

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  4 года назад

      You have a 1.7L mercury outboard, the previous generation. Low gear oil is pretty similar across most outboards, could have a drain plug in a slightly different location is all.

      Prop is an x7 17p. Perfect prop for this hull and outboard
