The V6 models do have the gear lube plugs in a different spot, so it is required to remove the prop as the drain is on the back. The one in this video is a 1.5 liter, where it has the drain/vent/oil level on the side so you dont have to remove the prop to change the gear lube. I did a separate video removing the prop on a 115 (ruclips.net/video/MDmMJk2PJz4/видео.html) the process is the same but depending on which model/prop some of the retainers are different. Just pay attention to the order in which you removed. Hope this helps.
The reason you need to fill from the bottom is it minimizes air bubbles that could get trapped inside which could prevent the lube from getting to the bottom of gearcase on startup. Also, if there are air bubble voids inside you risk not putting the correct amount of lube inside the gearcase. By filling from the bottom, you are slowly pushing the air bubbles out of the vent on the top.

Great video, I've always done my own service but have wondered weather or not it was necessary to get oil out both vents.
Glad I was able to help! Thanks for watching.
Good video, thank you
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Will this be the same for a 200hp 2stroke mercury ? I saw a different video where they had to take off the prop to change the oil?

Is there a reason for not filling the gear lube from the top instead of the drain plug on the bottom?

@@TeamDIYNow Thanks for the explanation!
@@MyDeere3320 No problem, glad I was able to help.
From the top creates air pockets causing the unit to run dry.
