This was MUCH more helpful than the Mercury videos that you get from the QR code! I'm preparing for one last outing with my 23' 90 hp before the lakes freeze and am about to winterize it. How on earth do you manage to explain things that others either miss or don't know. Even though my engine is a Yamaha, this advice is totally appropriate.Just the correct advice is invaluable. You show the importance of reading instructions on the engine and where to find it. I find your instruction and skills expertlty done. I also am subscribed to marine mechanical engineers and they don't always articulate everything that a novice would understand ( at least me ). Jason, I can't , for a moment fully explain how important your advice is and without being too patronising, Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge. Regards my friend.

Thanks nomad I really appreciate it! I just try to explain things like I would like them explained.. in a way my brain can understand.. lol.. I talk boats with customers all the time.. and it’s something I love talking about and working on! People don’t like it when you try to talk over their head..and they tune out or don’t listen or might think you’re arrogant .. Even though sometimes working in boats can be very frustrating and annoying.. but it’s challenging and rewarding also.. i hope to stay in the industry a long time.. I couldn’t think of a better job for myself..only thing that will stop me is my knees and back! Lol..I always appreciate your feedback and support!

Take care of your body my friend, it really is the only one you've got. Ty again for your instructions.

Yes I have a 90 hp 2stroke also. No oil filter, but have drained lower prop gear oil & didn’t have to remove prop. Changed fuel filter on engine & tank. Changed plugs. Still get occasional sluggish operation even after warm & have to choke to get through it.

Love this video! 1/2 way through my annual maintenance on a Mercury 115 CT. Writing shirtless though, as my gear oil plugged popped out and sprayed me with used gear oil. Likely an anomaly or user error somehow. Definitely didn't notice the gear lube "not rushing out of there." No I didn't loosen the vent or overflow first. Sharing so others don't potentially get the same surprise. Not a criticism of the video. Covering all potential scenarios would create a two-hour long video. Love the video and watched about eight times to date. Thank you Real Life Fisherman for the pro guidance. I appreciate you.

I have owned boats for years and just bought my first boat with an outboard, Merc 150 four stroke. For someone like me who has always done my own maintenance per manufacturer's specs, I have found that these modern four strokes are pretty darn easy to do the annual maintenance - as explained in this video. However, if you have reservations, take it to an authorized Merc shop. If you are someone who changes their own oil in your car, this is for you. Merc did a nice job making at least the 100 hr/annual and the spark plugs very simple on these motors, 300 hr. impeller is a bit more but hey, watch the video on that right here on this channel! Great job on the vids!

You are 100% right. Very important. Take it from experience. Change those yellow seals on the lower unit lube screws every time - no exceptions. My mechanic once did not do so when he change the lower unit lube resulting in water intrusion into the lower unit. I looked down when if first started the engine in my boat slip, and murky brown lube/water mixture was coming out from the lower unit around the screws. Luckily it was in freshwater, caught it right away, and no damage to the lower unit. Thanks for the great video!

I just picked up a new used boat with the 90hp Mercury. Not knowing when the last service was done, I'm going to do a 100 hr service on it. The boat is 4 years old, but only 63 hours on the motor. Better safe than sorry. This video is awesome-very clear and easy to follow. I feel well prepared to tackle the job. One question-how many fuel filters does the 90hp have? My 60hp has 2.

I have a 75 and only found the 1 filter under the hood...my 60 also had 2, one like in the video and a smalll bowl type

I thought I would have a quick look at this vid, before I go and buy a 75.I am changing from 2 Yamaha's because the dealer said I lost the warranty because I did my own miner services. I have owned and run boats with up to 600 hp all my life and done the oil changes ect, so I am loath to pay hundreds of pounds in my case for something I can easily do myself. I am commercial so a hundred hours is every few weeks. The Mercury/ Mariner looks simple enough . Thanks.

That was a great service video. The camera work was also outstanding. Often that makes a tutorial video not so helpful. I have often wondered why Mercury put the lower unit drain in such an odd place, but now it makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

great vid, THANK YOU. (just a note on marine grade oil.... the ONLY difference marine oil has is that it is approved by the NMMA (Nat Marine Manufacturer Assoc) and they only approve oils that contain a rust inhibitor...a good thing of course. There is no difference as to the ability to lube better or worse for any type of engine use. If you keep your boat on a trailer at home and flush it after each use, you likely won't have rust issues and therefore you really don't need a marine grade oil.
