Thank you for taking the time. My Father left way too early, so thank you for helping my family

Great job explaining, I’ve been trying to get a mechanic in my town with no success but now I’m comfortable doing it with your help

Next time take off the thrust washer after removing prop. You then can check for fishing line and you can get a better angle on the lower unit drain plug.

Was wondering why he didn't do that. Plus the gear oil was really dirty and cloudy. If you change it every year it shouldn't be that cloudy or dirty. And if the oil is cloudy I'm that means you're leaking water into the lower unit.😬

I had some brass sparkles in the oil. Thrust washer wearing?

@@hardrockminer-50 A little in the lower unit oil after a years worth of use is ok and especially if it the the first oil change. A lot is not good. It's wear from your drive gears inside the lower unit, not the thrust washer.

Exactly same thing I did to my 150 yesterday. I even used the exact same Craftsman screwdrivers I have had since 1971!
I took that brass thrust washer off and I think I put it on backwards. Now I have to take the prop off to look. This will bug me all winter if I don't check.

Would have been quite a bit easier to attach and fill the gear oil pump if you removed that brass-colored spacer. It simply pops off. Sometimes on there a bit but just lightly tap with a small hammer or screw driver and it slides right off giving you a clear view of the drain/fill hole.

Does it matter which direction the new drain plug washer/seal goes on? TIA!

ALWAYS TAKE THE DRAIN PLUG OUT 1ST, THEN THE VENT PLUG AND IT WONT SPILL ALL OVER YOUR HAND.

Why not remove the bras thrust washer. It would be easier.

After the prop comes off there is a "something sleeve" cant make out what you are calling it. Can you get those from an online supplier?

Why can’t you just put it in vent hole while drain hole is already just asking I don’t know but that’s how I did the old ones and they was both also on the outside

I don't know. I got it from Sturgeon Creek Marina which is on Lake Anna in VA. What state do you live in?

Yes, if you buy the Mercury 100 hour maintenance kit you will get both
