Best song by Demons and Wizards, one of my favorite songs with Hansi singing (which is saying a lot for this BG fanboy). The lyrics are a way Hansi processed a rather traumatic experience and I always found them quite moving.
" "I just wrote that music [for "Fiddler on the Green"] and sent it over to Hansi. The whole concept is his and it's based on a true story", Jon elaborates.
"[Hansi] was out walking his dog and he saw a little boy get killed on a bicycle -- hit by a car. Well, it happened again, like a week later -- same spot, same place in his neighborhood in a place where something like that would never happen.
Over in Germany, the Fiddler is like what we call the Reaper." Sounds like the Demons & Wizards album cover, wouldn't you agree? In summary, the Fiddler makes a mistake and takes this little boy's life too soon. Thusly, he promised the boy he'll create this paradise for him. The girl in this scenario would have been this little boy's future wife, so the deal is that the Fiddle makes a heaven for this pair as part of the bargain.
In case you were wondering, this is Jon Schaffer's favorite track."

This is what its all about. When you look up power metal in the dictionary, right next to it is a link to this song. Epic chorus, fast crazy tempo and blazing guitarwork. And this live version is definitely the best live version of Valhalla. But to really get something amazing you need to listen to the Live version of The Bard's Song from Wacken. Several Hundred thousand singing the entire song.
Every other chorus on this song was sung by Kai Hansen of Helloween/Gamma Ray. So those high notes that Hansi seems to have a little trouble with were Kai's high screams. Hansi still does a pretty good job.

Now you need to do Precious Jerusalem to get the other side of the coin. There are a few Blind Guardian songs that deal with the Bible. Hansi loves literature and many of his songs are based on things he has read...especially Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. Lots of songs are based on that actually. Blind Guardian have one of the most passionate fan base ever. The guys in the band hearing their own crowd sing along has to be a very intense feeling. I still get goosebumps every time I hear this live version. Amazing!!

That awkward moment when the crowd just... decides the song isn't over? BG crowd is legit 150% the best crowd I've ever been in. It's indescribable. Pure magic.

Hi guys! Once again, wonderfull work, keep on it! And again, sorry for my english.
I Just came here to congratulate your vídeo and say that I was very happy with all that you said. I’m odinist and along my life i suffer preejudgement for not being a Christian, hearing that my faith is all sort of bad thins, some alredy laughed at me, offended me, told me that my religion doesn’t exist etc... Although all of this, i never fought back, i always had in mind that i owe nothing to anyone, that my faith is for myself, is the path i choose to live, where i found myself and i’m happy. i really appreciate when i find people that, regardless of their faith, respect other people’s choices and don't judge them for follow a different path (like ou guys, at least in what i can see), becouse, in the end, what realy matters, is living your life the best way possible, in the way that brings you most happiness. That is it, thank you for the respect, the world need more of it!

They are my favorite band of this metal genre for sure. If you have time to invest on them, you should listen to Nightfall In middle Earth album (inspired by Tolkien's Silmarillion)

The crowd didn't want to let them go 😅🤩
Please take a look at the blind guardian video "the bard's song + valhalla" live at wacken . You will love it . Its a perfect example of Hansis vocal range , the perfection of the instruments, the love of a mixed festival crowd to BG and the wonderful crowdcontrol from BG over 75000 people 😉🤩

Power metal: “Hey, let’s play metal, but without the emotional baggage of anger, depression, guilt or longing!”
This stuff is made to be played live and get a crowd pumped up. Or for workouts. Or to get hyped when you need to get hyped. People denigrate it for being “cheesy,” but when you’re not channeling rage, sadness, envy or guilt, like the vast majority of metal, what else do you sing about? Fantasy (Blind Guardian), history (Sabaton), mythology (Powerwolf), mortal combat (Manowar), and so on...

    • @TrueMetalBrother
      @TrueMetalBrother 5 лет назад +1

I think Manowar is about personal fights and face the life with courage and honor

  • @GLMarrocos

I'm so, so happy to more Blind Guardian, and more power metal here. Instant like.
I don't know if anyone comment but, the wizard is the way Odin walks among the mortals. So, you can say he, as long he is talking about his heritage, is talking about Odin and the Norse Mythology or religion there.
Please, do more power metal. I'm begging you! Do Helloween - Deliberately Limited Preliminary Prelude Period in Z/Push, from Better than Raw album or Power from High Live; Angra - In Excelcis/Nova Era or Temple of Hate.
    Please!

Valhalla - “paradise” of vikings in sagas of ancient Germany and
Norway. However, in the song there are also words about advent of a
    new god,
”..I leave this world All gods are gone ..“
and about some mage, that leads to quite strange conclusions…
Sometimes on the background you can hear the voice of Kai Hansen from
Helloween. May be this song is based upon the story by R. Howard “The
    Grey God Passes”.

Valhalla" references the Mythological Valhalla, and the song is about a wizard who deplores the loss of his people's mythology, hinting at the historical shift from the Norse pagan religion to Christianity.

This band is amazing live, saw them in 2010 in a little venue in my city. The crowd was around 500 strong and during this song we sang our hearts out, so loud we drowned out the PA. One of my best concert memories. Honestly check out The Bard song by these guys!

Talking about Metallica... on The Memory Remains the audience always sings the Marianne Faithful part for just as long after the song is over. I screamed my heart out at Wembley Stadion with like 80.000 others. My vocal chords almost left my mouth... :)
