Singing The Bard's Song in the audience in a Blind Guardian concert is one of the most incredible experiences in metal. All the explosive sounds and loudness stops for this one magical moment, where everyone is just singing as loud as they can. Hansi could not sing a single line and every word would be sung.

"The Bards Song" live is unlike any other experience I've ever had. Two hours of having your face melted by (imo) the greatest Power Metal Band ever, and then you have this super intimate affair. Strangers lock arms around shoulders and sway back & forth to the rhythm. Hansi sings parts, but often just stands there as the entire crowd serenades him. It's one of the most powerful feelings of unity I've ever had in my entire life.

    • @ashamael

ps - Blind Guardian isn't my favorite band ever (though top 5 for sure), but they are without a doubt the best live show I've ever been to. Most of their songs are so anthemic that audience participation happens every song.

Not only will you find power metal on the album, but also songs that don’t quite fit the metal mold. Blind Guardian started off as speed and power metal, but they’ve become more progressive over time. But anyway, knowing that you really enjoy Tolkien’s literary worlds, I think you’ll get a kick out of “Nightfall in Middle-Earth.”

Agreed. This album is so good, that 20+ years ago, I, a metalhead at the time, played it to my pop/r'n'b listening sister, just because we were both Tolkien fans.

love that album but my main problem is everyone allways keeps asking reactors for the same 2 power metal songs from it (Time Stands Still and Mirror Mirror) ... and forgets the lovely ballad (The Eldar) or that epic almost operatic (Noldor) that both are btw more into what i believe Tolkien would appreciate

The crowd interaction has actually gotten to a point of crowd management at this point. If you have a look at the 2011 version, you'll see that they tried to end the song twice, but the crowd just didn't care and continued chanting the chorus. So that's why he is giving them so much time and talking about his band members taking turns to coninue the song and that's also why he is slowing the very last sentence so much. It's the only thing that worked 2011.

    • @Caelestan
      @Caelestan 3 года назад +11

@@KayiaTCM Hehe, you are so right. Actually i have to say that i experienced both sides. The positive and the negative way. First i went to a concert of the "Imaginations from the other side"-Tour, and they didn't have "Lord of the rings" on their setlist. But the crowd wanted it and at least got it. The crowd cheered "Lord of the rings" so many times with such a passion, that the band had a discussion onstage and then played it. And yes, it was not that perfect-played but the atmosphere was outstanding, the crowd was grateful and it was magic. That was in Hamburg, Germany at the venue "Docks".
The second one was the same venue, but the "Nightfall in middleearth"-Tour. Same thing, after the first songs started to cheer "Lord of the rings" in the breaks between the songs, quite sure remembering the last tour. First Hansi was smiling, but the more often the crowd cheered that and the concert went on, it was recognizeable, that he was not very pleased. And i don't know why and exactly when, but surely after the "Bards Song" one guy in the crowd showed the middle-finger to the stage and it was clear, that the band won't take the thing that cool this evening. Strange atmosphere (but yet quite a time before that happened) and the magic was gone. For me it was also not nice, because i got a friend with ne, whom i told about the last gig and how magic "Blind Guardian" are. And additional to this, he is a huge tolkien-fan. He asked me after the concert a thing like: "Uh, they did not really want to play today, mmh?" And that was exactly how it felt. Other Gigs i watched from them where more in the category really good and nice atmosphere, but for me they never reached the experience of the first time i watched them. But of course they are still a really great (live-)band.
But i have much more nice memories about gigs, like for example Dragonforce with Turisas for support at "Grünspan", Hamburg, Germany, where i had a talk with Sam after the gig in front of the venue and he asked me things i don't want to say here to get him not in trouble 😉. Of course he was quite drunk because of drinking onstage during the whole concert. 😉 I could tell stories about many of these little things. And i like these little gigs much more then the big ones.
Wish you a merry christmas and stay healthy!
      Greetz from near Hamburg, Germany.

Blind Guardian is a band with two sides. When they are at the studio Hansi drives everything to perfection. They work with many different musicans and vocalists on their songs and the lyrics is an ongoing story like a fantasy book. On the other side they are one of the best live bands i have ever seen (500+ bands since 2012). They are not as clean as recorded but interact with the audiance in a way not many are able to. The Concert you're analysing here was from wacken 2016. Three days of rain and then three days of sun. Many people were tired but Hansi was able to wake us all up there. As a BG fan for many years i have to say that this show was great but not their best. They need their crowd to shine and the more BG fans (who know the lyrics) are part of the crowd the better. Thats why i prefer seeing them on their tour instead of a festival show. In my opinion one of their best shows and one of the greatest crowds singing along is recoreded on their DVD "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass". The performance of the bard's song (in the forest) on that one is way better than the one we are looking at here.

Since we have a thumbnail, the reaction is already recorded, but I'll still put the lyrics up. Someone will find them helpful.
The Bards Song (in the forest)
    Now you all know
    The bards and their songs
    When hours have gone by
    I'll close my eyes
    In a world far away
    We may meet again
    But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
    Let's sing the bards' song
    Tomorrow will take us away
    Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
    Tomorrow will take it away
    The fear of today
    It will be gone
    Due to our magic songs
    There's only one song
    Left in my mind
    Tales of a brave man
    Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
    And it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name
    Of the one
    Who tells the story
    Tomorrow will take us away
    Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
    Tomorrow all will be known
    And you're not alone
    So don't be afraid
    In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
    They all will remain
In my thoughts and in my dreams
    They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men
    And elves
    Come close your eyes
    You can see them too
    Valhalla
High in the sky Where eagles fly
Morgray the dark Enters the throne
    Open wide the gate, friend
    The king will come
    Blow the horn and praise
    The highest Lord
    Who'll bring the dawn
    He's the new god
    In the palace of steel
    Persuade the fate of everyone
    The chaos can begin
    Let it in
    (Lead: André)
    So many centuries
    So many Gods
We were the prisoners of our own fantasty
But now we are marching Against these Gods
I'm the wizard, I will change it all
    (Lead: André/Marcus)
    Ref.:
    Valhalla - Deliverance
    Why've you ever forgotten me
    Ref.
    Magic is in me
    I'm the lost magic man
Never found what I was looking for
Now I found it but it's lost
    The fortress burns
    Broken my heart
    I leave this world
    All Gods are gone
    So many centuries
    So many Gods
We were the prisoners of our own fantasty
But then we had nothing Who'll lead our life
No, no, we can't live Without Gods

Blind Guardian is one of my favourite bands. Coming from speed metal with hits like Majesty or Guardian of the Blind, they have more and more moved towards power metal. Nightfall in Middle-Earth is the turning point and one of my favourite albums still.
I really like And then there was Silence: ruclips.net/video/yaJEyKYSlo8/видео.html
but also the newer albums like Beyond the Red Mirror: ruclips.net/video/klVGR0JZmcg/видео.html
or Legacy of the Dark Lands: ruclips.net/video/7bZjrn6IhOw/видео.html
That is really epic and suits a fantasy film soundtrack. By the way: I also like their contribution to the The Dwarves soundtrack, though the music is written by Benny Oschmann rather than André Olbrich: ruclips.net/video/F5X7MXfLxEg/видео.html

Watching someone that doesn't usually listen to metal get the same feeling that I get everyday is just truly magical. Welcome to the world of metal! I could see you get that feeling of energy. You became fidgety and your eyes changed. That power inside, makes you clench your teeth and want to go run through the forest and fight a bear or something 😂 We live for that feeling. That sense of empowerment, that energy, that passion. Blind Guardian is amazing. The singer started a side project with a friend, its called Demons and Wizards and its some of.my all time favorite music. If you want to hear his voice then id say listen to "Path of Glory", and "Fiddler on the Green". Two amazing songs from Demons amd Wizards. Valhalla is from the very early days, when they were definitely more speed metal. The more hymnic power metal / epic metal developed from there.
Also, I think the continuous chanting at the end of Valhalla developed over time. The song ends with this calm part, but when performed live the audience just wouldn't stop chanting the chorus.
At first the band was bewildered in a good way. Then it became a staple, that the band starts again to keep it going even longer to celebrate the connection with the fans.
