Same here. I'm only 15 and even I understand what an amazing person Lizzie is. If any of my friends or peers said anything negative about her purely because of her appearance, I would ditch them. Judge a person on their actions, not their appearance. Most teenagers know this.
Yeah, but really, fire your therapist. It takes a while and sometimes it gets really frustrating but good ones are out there. I'm almost 40 and have just now found a good therapist and a diagnosis that actually fits.
Kids are cruel, no matter where you grow up or what is wrong (or right) about you -- your color, religion, size, whatever -- there's always gonna be someone to bully and shame you. Kudos to you for making lemons into lemonade AND writing about it. You're an inspiration!

Like srsly. Parents play a big role in mental health of a person. If my parents didn't focus too much on my appearance, I might've had a but more confidence in myself. Cuz these days, whenever I'm talking to someone, I think "is my double chin showing up?" Or "am I looking weird?". And this all started ever since my mother and siblings started calling me names whenever they were angry. They might've vented off their anger for the time but they made me feel miserable and I can't forget little thing like that. I wish I was mentally strong like this girl (I admire her so much). Tho I'm trying to change but it's really hard...
She touched my heart. I grew up with cruelty because the right side of my face is paralyzed. As I aged I became quite beautiful to most, but still some made fun of me even as I grew older. Cruelty is not just happening to kids. I was working for a law firm. I had several surgeries that helped. Unfortunately, getting old (65) is a challenge and not so pretty, but the guys aren’t looking at me these days, they’re looking at my daughters who are beautiful and always have been. Life is hard for people who don’t look quite like you.
This is proof that it's society that really affects us. She wasn't self conscious or trying to impress anyone until she went to school with others who judged her. She has an amazing support system.
Lizzie is the epitome of beauty AND a refreshing example of a 'genuine' person...inside & out!. In our society today, particularly as portrayed by the media, it's all about appearances. Lizzie goes WELL beyond that shallow way of thinking. God Bless you and enjoy your life and continue your wonderful insight, Lizzie!!
It's interesting to me, that visually "unattractive" people, seem to have the most beautiful souls, while some "beautiful" people have the ugliest souls. She can't exploit her beauty for selfish personal-gains. She had to beautify the only thing she had control of: her soul, and damn she did a good job. She's a truly beautiful woman!
I am in awe of her, and all spectacular spirits like her who embrace their natural, unique differences, who do not allow themselves to be weakened by anyone, who do not subject their bodies to the trauma of plastic surgery, they are just real, so real, there’s nothing more inspiring to me.

My last name is Velasquez, as you can see. If I hadn't searched "Velasquez" out of curiosity on RUclips 7 years ago, if I hadn't clicked on this video, I wouldn't be here. All my life, I've felt like I didn't belong in my own skin, I've cried to my mom asking why I was born since I was 6 because people couldn't and can't stop asking why I was "always sick or half-dead". I'm just a girl, but because of my dark circles, my bone structure and my skin, I have been called names by everyone including close friends, family, everyone. I have tried so much to improve my outer appearance that I started purposefully tangling my hair and not sleeping when I was 10. I would've harmed myself, I would've destroyed myself from the inside if it wasn't for that video. Lizzie's words, work and heart touched me in a place so deep that everytime I rewatch that video I cry, not because I'm sad, but because I'm so, so grateful to share a name with her, because I share feelings with her and, somewhat, I share stories with her. We might not be what society expects of us, I might be "that one girl" for the people passing me in the street. But we have strength. She is one of the strongest people I've seen, a warrior, one of the strongest people I wish I could meet, and the strongest person to grant me strength to push through my own hardship. Thank you Lizzie, I wish you as much happiness as you've given me, even if you don't know
My goodness, she looks so worryingly fragile and then she speaks and makes it clear just what a strength of personality she has, along with a marvellous sense of humour. What a wonderful example of a quality human being; courage personified.
I really think this video should be played in schools, and change life of so many people...it's one of the most amazing persons I've ever seen. Also so funny and charming!
Is it just me or are you guys in love with her voice to? She is truly beautiful. I hope to meet her one day. She is my inspiration to get up in the morning
6:13 this is very important, her parents did not go the next day to complain to the school because their daughter has been harassed by some bully. Her parents know that they have to give her the courage and intelligence to face the reality of life. When we overprotect our children, we victimize them and create overly sensitive adults. Behind this wonderful strong girl, there are wonderful parents, family, and friends.
have you ever experienced bullying? When no one does anything about that and tells, o sweetie, Im sorry you go through that but that's life, this fucks you up. Bullying is not a reality of life and yes, when you go through that other things might not seem that bad but what's the cost of that. Some people get a thick skin and some of them get depression, anxiety and kill themselves. Reporting the bullying is not overprotecting.
@@sofijasofija2867 Yes you're so right I think they're trying to say that with what she has everyone is going to judge her and look at her weird and the parents know this is going to happen though out her life so they just tried to i think let her go and do it herself and experience it so she gets use to it and then she'll be able to not be bothered!

her voice is so calming
I'm crying because her positivity is so genuine and beautiful. I'm crying because I feel like I've been so ungrateful and complaining unnecessarily that I'm unable to see the value of the things I already have. I'm crying because of how strong she is and if more people carried even an ounce of her strength, I truly believe that the world would be so much better.
I agree, but its also human nature to complain unnecessairly. I've done the same thing. I bet lizzy has done it too. All we can do as humans is try are very best to be as strong as we can be.
Reading what you wrote makes you pretty special and strong too. So stop crying and pass it on, this is how our country and world should be like.

I was listening to the video, not watching it. It was an autoplay while I was doing my chores...first, her voice, then her sense of humour, then her message went straight to my heart...then I reached out to pick up my phone and saw...a lioness in a kitten, a ray of light in a broken lamp, a promise of heaven in the darkness...Thank you, Lizzie! God bless you!
I love this comment so much! You should have WAY more likes. I'm hoping the childish & superficial comments are from pre-teen/teens who have no idea what it means to be a kind person.
Mary Kelly I really hope that they are four-year-olds who don’t know what they’re talking about. I’m a teenager and I would be disgusted if any of my friends said a word against this amazing woman.
Same here. I'm only 15 and even I understand what an amazing person Lizzie is. If any of my friends or peers said anything negative about her purely because of her appearance, I would ditch them. Judge a person on their actions, not their appearance. Most teenagers know this.
God made this happen.

My therapist even can’t talk like that
Okay but Frl, I’m gonna need a hair care routine.
your therapist would be out of job if he/she talks like this to you. how would your therapist survive if you are in good condition?
Yeah, but really, fire your therapist. It takes a while and sometimes it gets really frustrating but good ones are out there. I'm almost 40 and have just now found a good therapist and a diagnosis that actually fits.

Kids are cruel, no matter where you grow up or what is wrong (or right) about you -- your color, religion, size, whatever -- there's always gonna be someone to bully and shame you. Kudos to you for making lemons into lemonade AND writing about it. You're an inspiration!
I hate talking in front of an audience, I hated group projects and oral presentations in school, and she is up there delivering such a powerful speech..wtf is wrong with me.

I'm not even going to hide or lie about it, few years ago a friend send me a picture of Lizzie and he asked what I thought of her. I tolded him that she's disgusting. I now realize she isn't disgusting, she has an awesome personality and a precious heart! I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. And Lizzie if you are reading this, I want to apologize for my action and I hope everything goes well for you!
+Mika K. Yeah I feel bad because I know that if I had been in her kindergarten class I probably would have been mean to her and had I seen the video in high school I would have made fun of her. This is why I watch videos like this, they challenge me to be a better human being.

If all parents were like hers, the world would be a different place. What a fantastic video.

Powerful paradigm! And true.
Micah, You are spot on. Before I read your comment, I was thinking how undeniably beautiful she is. Precious. 💕

Thank you Lizzie, I wish you as much happiness as you've given me, even if you don't know
This was incredibly sweet. Thank you for sharing.
My goodness, she looks so worryingly fragile and then she speaks and makes it clear just what a strength of personality she has, along with a marvellous sense of humour. What a wonderful example of a quality human being; courage personified.

Yes I was just thinking how pretty her voice is
Chloe Bloch I was thinking the exact same thing!!!!
This was shown to our Communication class last week and I must say, her motivational speech is remarkable.
I really like and support in your opinion.
have you ever experienced bullying? When no one does anything about that and tells, o sweetie, Im sorry you go through that but that's life, this fucks you up. Bullying is not a reality of life and yes, when you go through that other things might not seem that bad but what's the cost of that. Some people get a thick skin and some of them get depression, anxiety and kill themselves.
Reporting the bullying is not overprotecting.
I agree. Schools need to be doing more to stop this.
Really its is big true.

The key is that she has an amazing support system. Its totally different when you are born into an abusive or neglectful family and that is how you spend your life. You truly feel how the people who you love treat you. Strangers dont matter as much
