Answer: Long hair, heroin, and poor record sales. None of them are good reasons if they actually cared about quality, influence, and heart, all of which Gram Parsons possessed in spades.
God, if he had only lived ten more years. That stupid OD. He and Emmy Lou would have been bigger than anyone. But Emmy Lou should did Gram well. I saw her several times play around 1972 with the Hot Band. That was 50% Gram. His band without him. Best country rock band ever, and also check out their album with Jonathan edwards. Evangeline with Emmy Lou singing backup is heavenly for an old gringo like me
I’ve just found out about Gram as he was quite before my time but my god what a talent. I can only imagine his future had he not overdosed. What a loss.
Thanks for the post, You just gotta love the Johnny Cash Train Sound in this Song. It starts out like a Train just speeding up and just keeps on getting faster. I listen to it probably once a week. Although it's Sad What a friggen Waste to bad they didn't have " Narcan " back in 73' It's just to Damn Sad in the scheme of things this was yesterday or at least to a old guy like me it was..
Well it's not that IT HAS to Sound like Cash it's the FACT THAT IT DOES. That 5, 6 beat sound that keeps getting faster like a " Train Speeding Up " Johnny Cash INVENTED IT , it was his Trademark Sound. No Problem with Parsons using it also Artists do it all the time and I'm glad he did since " Luxury Liner " is one of my Top 10 Favorite Songs but this is the best version of it. I'm not so sure there is an " Original Parsons Sound ". He was still Experimenting with lots of " sounds" but if you listen to the Work he did before his death He was leaning way more towards Country then Rock, Finally there is an Interview where he talks about Johnny Cash being a Influence which makes sense because CASH was ALL Rock when he started as was Elvis but they also Incorperated Country into their Rock and Vice Versa . Which is exactly what Parsons was doing. It's just Sad we will never hear all the Great Music that I'm sure would have come to be if he had lived. How long was he really on the Music Scene ? From 66' till 73' less then SEVEN YEARS not very long. Parsons Fans owe a big Thank You to Emmylou Harris without Her Parsons very well may have ended up a Footnote in the Music History Book. No one has done more to Keep His name out there. 15 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find many people who even knew who he was . Then with RUclips and Other Sites people would " Google " Harris and " The Fallen Angels " would pop up on the search engine so they gave a listen and how could they help but like what they heard. There was a really good Article about the " New Interest and New Fan Base of Parsons in " Rolling Stone " a few years ago which pretty much Concurs . Sorry didn't mean to write a Novel but I wasn't disrespecting Parsons with the Cash remark actually just the opposite.
This is the original 1967 version of The International Submarine band with Gram Parsons in it. Great song!
A sweet boy.
Come on Hall of Fame, this guy needs to be in!
No freaking $#%!!!
This is the way it should be sung!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Gram best
Gram is awesome why isn't he in the country hall of fame?
Good question
AND the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Its sacrilegious that hes not in both.

@@thejkyle Quality will out, which is why Gram lives on, still finding new fans (me too) after all these years.

Wait. This is "Last Train To Clarksville" again, which was "Paperback Writer" again.
For what it's worth his guy started this band and was writing and playing similar music in 1965 - before both of those songs were released.
