I remember a bio-pic tv movie years ago. Sonny saw her in a studio. She was a back round studio singer. He knew she was amazing. Cher was only a teenager at the time and suffered from crippling stage fright. The only way to convince her to perform in front of an audience, was he would be right next to her. Sonny knew he wasn't a singer, but he knew Cher was.

I remember when this came out, before your parents were born. When Sonny first ran for office- mayor- a reporter interviewed Cher hoping for dirt because they were divorced. She laughed, saying he had run a recording empire bigger than the city budget. I loved it.

Cher loved Sonny till his death as a result of a skiing accident during his political career many years later after their split. She spoke at his eulogy. I’m sure you can find that on YT. I remember their variety show as a child in the early/mid 70’s. They maintained their friendship years beyond their split. So iconic! Thank you guys, great reaction!! 🙏❤️🔥

Sonny ended up in Congress, supporting the Ruby Ridge defendants against the government (sort of an old-fashioned Ammon Bundy sitch). Cher strongly disagreed with Sonny's politics.

Yes, I remember the first episode. The troops had just been pulled from Vietnam.
Cher and Sonny talked about getting a letter from a young man.
Cher had to read it, because Sonny kept choking up.
He wrote that while he was in Vietnam, he consoled himself by thinking about all his favorite things back home.
His favorite group was Sonny and Cher.
Then, they brought him out to meet the audience.

So many people forget about Sonny being a good singer, as well as songwriter (he wrote this song), manager, and producer. Sonny and Cher had their own variety show on TV in the 70's. Cher got more attention and Sonny eventually entered politics. Bono remains the only member of Congress to have scored a number-one pop single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Yeah, interesting voice, that's all. I was around back in the '70s and everybody (including Sonny) understood he wasn't really a singer. To some extent he's just talking his way through these songs. He was there mainly to keep Cher from having stage fright. And eventually, when she got over her nerves and matured, he was writing songs for her as a solo artist.

If you like this song, then you ought to learn about the woman who was responsible for the bass line that drives the song. Her name is Carol Kaye, and she's arguably the most prolific session musician in history. She laid down more iconic bass licks than probably anyone in history. Including the bass line on "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher. Check out this profile of her remarkable career. I promise it will blow you away. ruclips.net/video/wOXHxIz065g/видео.html This might be the coolest of all the Sonny and Cher hits, although it's hard to beat their debut hit "I Got You Babe" (which Carol Kaye played the lead guitar on).

The movie titled “The Wrecking Crew,“ is something I have recommended to every one of these reaction channel people at least once or twice. If they’re seriously interested in learning about this music, it’s really a must see movie. So is “Standing In the Shadows of Motown,” about the Funk Brothers, the house band at Motown Records who played on almost every one of their songs. And the third movie of that type is one called “Muscle Shoals,” about the little studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where a little recording studio sat and became an important player in R&B music.

Sonny and Cher, icons of an era of change in America. Soinny penned most of their hits on an old piano in their garage. This song chronicles it all. Life was fast and furious in the cities, the economy was booming, Vietnam was escalating, race riots and rock festivals were getting out of hand, pot and LSD were taking hold. Technology was rushing forward faster than ever, yet most Americans fell for every gimmick the manufacturers and ad agencies could dream up. It was all a bit frightening for the older generation who won WWII.
