The whispers are an example of true brotherhood. They never had a single lineup change in their entire history. When one member went to prison in the ‘80’s they performed as a quartet and made sure his wife received his share. He returned to his spot upon release. When another member died in the 90’s they vowed not to replace him so that his family could receive his share. A second member died a few years ago. They are now a trio. They are fantastic live.
And this song is just one of the reasons my 70s will kick the butt of every era of pop music. Y'all definitely need to hit "It's A Love Thing" by these brothers!
@@davidbordonaro1631 Oh, yeah. The 70s was heavy with turmoil that touched every corner of the country, but as you said, the music - almost all genres - was too damned amazing! I enjoy music from a lot of decades (even the current one) but the 70s will always own my heart and soul!
Ahhhh! Their song Rock Steady was my favorite song as a little kid! Love The Whispers! Watched a documentary on them in the last hear. They still perform! 😍
Jay, did you see Drew from Mt. Orab, Ohio (Broncos) just beat Berrow's high school record? It is the town my dad still lives in and I first lived in. Very small town similar to where Amber grew up. Joe took it well.
Of course, this is the song Will Smith sampled for his hit song, "Miami". Such a great groove! "Rock Steady" is definitely a Whispers song you should react to. It's arguably their biggest hit.

Yes young people... we loved The Whispers....George Benson, .... MJ... The Temptations....Barry White... Shalamar, Evelyn Champagne King... ....dancned through the 1980s in London....we managed to go to work on a Monday too....❤....

My sister went to school with the twins. And one I forget which one sold me a pair of Easter shoes. I really love their first record Your Love is So Doggone Good. They signed to Solar Records later the same label as Shalamar the group that featured Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels, featured dancers on Soul Train in the 70’s.

Wow! I think this might be one of the best reactions I’ve seen from you guys. You both seemed to equally be into this “smooth” jam from the opening notes. I absolutely LOVE this song and Amber when you out your hands up over your head and started clapping it brought a huge smile to my face because I knew you were feeling it. You can’t help but smile and move when you hear this song and it sounds just as good now as when it was released. Great video guys and Jay, I gotta agree with the mustache comment, dude was rocking that epic stache! So many other similar early 80s grooves you guys should check out. “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” by McFadden and Whitehead, “Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen, “Found A Cure” by Ashford and Simpson just to suggest a few.
The guitar is Steve Shockley from Lakeside. He also played on Shalimar's records. They all were on SOLAR Records. (The Sound of LOS Angeles Records). All these bands you're critiquing are still on tour. Check them while you still can.
Great reaction! The Whispers were tight but The Temptations were The Truth when it came to precision dancing and a range of voices and music! Y’all really need to check of Sly and The Family Stone! Sly Stone was the Prince of the 70’s as far as writing the songs, playing all the instruments, recording and mixing the songs, and what he wrote was fat funk! Sly, James Brown and George Clinton invented funk and both James and George had the same bass player, Bootsy Collins. You can’t have funk without bass and Bootsy was only 18 when he and his brother Catfish started working with James!
Yes, these were the days for the roller-skating rink for me! Fun years, showing off our easy dance moves on roller skates! LOL! Oh this song brings back happy memories! Great song from the Whispers! Check out their other hits "It's A Love Thing" from 1981 and "Rock Steady" from 1987. You guys need to review Tulsa, Oklahoma's own Gap Band "Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me) from 1980. Band consisted of three Wilson brothers and other members. They got their band name from street names Greenwood, Archer, and Pine in the historic Greenwood neighborhood.
They have reacted to at least three Gap Band songs. "Burn Rubber On Me" I don't think they did. I know they did not get around to "Outstanding" my personal favorite with "Early In The Morning which they did react to already.
"Rock Steady" (produced by LA & Babyface) "Lady" and "Lost and Turned Out" are other hits by The Whispers you should check out! P.S. I don't think they were on Motown
Great song! One of my first concerts seeing them with Shalamar (featuring Jody Watley) and Lakeside. Please react to Jody Watley. She won Grammy for best new artist in the 80s and was a popular Soul Train dancer.
Great reaction!...for Female Friday, check out the live performance of A Taste of Honey. These ladies were popular in the disco era. They play base guitar! The song is called Boogie Oogie Oogie. You guys will love it!
Funk, R&B and Classic Soul at its best! I strongly want to recommend the movie for your other channel, "The Five Heartbeats" (1991), directed by and starring Robert Townsend. It'll give you great appreciation for guy groups like The Whispers.
I LOVE YOU GUYS I'M so happy the universe brought you both together its a good thing for the world and you have the "make someone smile today" motto and that has been my mantra for years
Just saw Zapp two weekends ago here in Ohio, where they are originally from. Sad since Roger is gone, but his brother at 70 something is still doing standing back flips in the show. Their hit Computer love was fun, but they closed with California Love, which founder/brother Roger Trout man did with 2Pac and Dr. Dre. They had at least 20 people from the audience on stage! It was amazing!❤

Worked at a club in L.A. in the 80's and 90's and these guys did a New Year's Eve show there. So much fun. Definitely need to check out Rock Steady.
You have to move when you hear this song! Such a great beat! Love this song!
Another classic, you two would make a great mixtape.
The Whispers - In The Mood (Official Video), super sensual and Keep On Lovin' Me (Official Music Video), great dance moves, are just two of the songs that made me a big time fan.
My mom and her twin sister when to high school with the Whispers (the twins) in Los Angeles, CA. Love their music, you must listen to Rock Steady next
wow....danced to this at our school disco....I must have been about 10 or 11 years old....aaaaaahhhh memories....was a fun night...blessings and thank you for reacting to this....xxxx
These brothas are all brothers (literally), and two of them are identical twins (did you catch that?). Amazing, talented group. You MUST check out "Rock Steady" from them next!
Surprised you guys didn’t recognise this immediately as the sample used by Will Smith for his huge hit “Miami”
I know they did not get around to "Outstanding" my personal favorite with "Early In The Morning which they did react to already.
ya BUT This was from 1979 ..
Yes Yes Yes, Jodi Watley and please please Shalamar! Right in the Socket is one of my all-time ever favorites, I'm sure they'd love it.
Great reaction!...for Female Friday, check out the live performance of A Taste of Honey. These ladies were popular in the disco era. They play base guitar! The song is called Boogie Oogie Oogie. You guys will love it!
@@sarahreggie1668 Great choice!
And I will never forgive her for snatching the Best New Artist Award from my guy, Terence Trent D'Arby. Lol.
@@danalyntuthill1538 Oh yeah, Terence Trent D'Arby was so great!
This is a great tune! Very roller disco!
You gotta do "Rock Steady!" My favorite Whispers tune. Also...to slow things down, definitely check out "Just Gets Better With Time."
This brings back so manny happy memories...saturday nights at the disco in the seventies
