Cher turned 77 today. Happy Birthday Cher! Oh how I wish I could step back in time. Sonny and Cher were magic together. He couldn't sing, but you never noticed. They both went on to great things, but never were they as good as they were together. And the beat goes on...
Written by Sonny Bono, it is an iconic song that you hear all the time in commercials. Hit the charts in January 67 when I was a freshman in HS. Great organ work here! Super lyrics by Sonny!
It's possible she was the coolest woman on television at the time. Carol Burnett was funny but Cher was cool ! Elizabeth Montgomery was Bewitched and beautiful but Cher was cooler :) Yvonne Craig as Batgirl ... nice. Cher ... cooler. Barbara Feldon ... fun, sexy in her own way for sure, but c'mon when you think of cool chicks in 1967 Agent 99 does not jump to mind lol. Cher was cooler. So now you're saying, "What about Jeannie?" Ok, super hot yes, cool yes, but could she sing? Cher had all that and was cooler. Eva Gabor? No. The gals of Petticoat Junction? No. Not as cool as Cher. Marlo Thomas ... nice. I believe many, many people liked Marlo Thomas but it's just not possible that she was cooler than Cher. Donna Douglas ... another vixen, sassy, wild ... but cool ? Was Elly May cool? I don't know. Rasslin' hogs is cool ... lol. I think if a vote was cast: Who's cooler? Cher or Elly May, Cher would win :) Lucille Ball ... funny, look at her publicity shots from back then ... she was gorgeous. Cool ... yes. But ... I'm sorry, once again cast a vote of coolness. Cher or Lucy. Cher wins. Would that be the closest one, Cher vs. Lucy? Who did I miss? I tried to stick to 1967 :) -
The best thing Sonny and Cher ever did, and I am not mocking what they did. They were far more a contribution to the whole 60s feel than people give them credit for. This song, to me, summed up the entire feel that was happening...that most of us couldn't really understand what this incredible energy was all about. This song rang out and said, "This is what's happening"! It was a form that people connected to. I remember people all happy when this song came out. All of a sudden the beatles and peace n love and psychedelia and mod and groovy all made sense. It was a vibe. Another song that did that was "Dancin in the streets" by Martha and the Vandelles. They were simple harmless groovy digestible yet hip songs.
I was a door man at the Grand Champions way back in the 1980's. Sonny showed up in a huge old Cadillac (Buick?) with a couple friends. And he was a darned good sort. Chatted with us, laughed, then took off and had dinner and came back and talked with us some more. Nothing earth shaking, he was just a good guy. I was sorry to hear when he died. He was a good man.
Sonny and Cher were such an integral part of the 60s and their iconic music still stands the test of time 50 years later!!!! Used to love to watch them playfully insult one another on their variety show!!! God this brings back such rich memories!!! RIP SONNY
I was just 14 years old when this record hit the big-time. I remember us all thinking how exotic Cher was with her dark, dark hair, high cheek bones, and sultry style. She still mesmerizes. And that deep contralto voice! I get chills!
I was going to ask my "friends" online from Russia if they had heard of, or if they enjoyed after listening. You have answered my question, thanks and I wish freedom to all of the good people in Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia and China!
Life ends or is gone every dawn To music and love we are drawn Might be king queen or a pawn The beat goes on an fish do spawn Heart beat is music an life goes on
Could just watch this over and over again in a loop. Terrific energy. Loved all their songs. This one and What Now My Love my favourites with Little Man & A Cowboy's Work Is Never Done close behind
Sonny was a smart man. Recognizing Cher's unique voice. Standing by his wife's side b/c Cher was 2 afraid by herself on stage. Writing popular hits. Being able to get them their own show. He went on to open his own very popular restaurant 'Bono's'. After that went into government. Exactly as his song states, Even after a half of century has gone by. "The Beat Goes On"....
@@AmberWool and the judge ruled that she owed him 2 million dollars - how do you get that when all the time she was with Sonny she didn’t earn a cent it all went to him and he gave her an allowance - your kidding me !!! Oh well she’s a legend in her own lifetime and today a wealthy woman - Cher rocks 🥰🇦🇺😎
You hear the pick on bass, I was on Dano (this is my line) they used our recording of this, Bob West on Fender Bass, Frankie Capp drums cut at Gold Star. Was the 3rd line I came up with -we had to do something 1 chord and not much of a tune - Leon Russell tried too, but Sonny loved the 3rd line I came up with and we cut this. I saw him in P.S. for lunch 1993 had some great memories together, he was happy with his new family!
I think this is my favorite performance of this, and I thought I had seen them all. Sonny acts so cool in this, like he’s channeling Jack Kerouac, lol. I love this!
Electrifying !! the electric blue look good on them - love them they had a perfect chemistry on stage - thanks for uploading this awesome clip - Cher was 76 this year (2022) she still rocks 💎💎💎😎🇦🇺
The SONNY & CHER TV Specials and their frequent Guest Appearances on Shows like "Rollins & Martin's LAUGH IN" and "ED SULLIVAN" sure left Strong Impressions and eventually earned them their Own TV Series. CHER was THE FOCUS with her erotic Fashion Wardrobe, particularly her "Seductive Scanty" Outfits performing "Marriage Counselling-Style" Comedy with VERY COOL Songs... In Fact, "The Beat Goes On", "Half Breed" and "I Got You Babe" were Show Highlights showcasing Sonny Bono's superb Songwriting (along with Tin Pan Alley's Team Assistance, too! I miss there show. I was too young to watch it at the time, but I do remember bits and pieces. I always thought they hated each other. I’m going to look for them today on my ROKU. I love Dark Lady. Cher plays it well.
I saw them live one time at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It was definitely NOT an awesome show. Their impending split up had been announced and most of the show had one singing while the other was in a small dressing room just off stage then they would change. There were a few that required them both -- "I Got You Babe" was particularly awkward. I truly loved Sonny and Cher and never missed their TV show but that performance in Houston killed my enthusiasm for their performances. Still enjoyed their songs but it was never the same.
I hear traces of The Beat Goes On with commercials I hear on TV. They were very good with a bunch of hits in the 60's. It is amazing that Cher became such a good actress!
wow....at their best together.....I alway love how they look at one another....cher was getting her move...and sonny's song were so catchy and touching... i cant imagine why is his ex wife's financial team thought they could take Chers royalty from their most famous song they created together
Cher sang this on DWTS last night. At first, I thought it was one of the actors from the Broadway Show and took a double-take, to see it was Cher. She has not changed a bit. God Bless with! RIP Sonny. ruclips.net/video/ab64kl0kaiI/видео.html

It's rare too find duets who share a harmony and rhythm . We'd be lucky too hear these types.
One of the best American duo acts ever⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡👍👍💖💖💖💖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Since he wrote all the songs, it was easier to overlook how he sounded...
I loved their show. They were hilarious. Sonny was a genius ❤

Great bass work by Carol Kaye of The Wrecking Crew.
I was eleven and in the 6th grade while loving this song.

How could you not love Cher she's down-to-earth she likes what she does and she loves what she does and she does it very well God bless you
Ya that song takes me back to a better time in america 3:24
Luv the song❤
Love Cher's groovy moves to the beat.

That's the way they danced in the 60's. Some ppl have 2 dance when they hear Gr8 music. Prince said "it's a vibe" Sonny & Cher knew that.
Wow! What a great time! I loved the chemistry between the two-I wish it could have lasted longer.
Saaaaaame!!!!!!!! 😍 she surely was bitchin

Cher's the only one dancing in this performance and it really gets you into the song 😁
Heard it on the radio and back here watching this over and over. I am 63 and good memories from these two.

I was two years old when this aired the first time and it was my FAVORITE SONG by the time I was a toddler of four...
Drums keep pounding rythym to the brain🎸🎸🎶🎵🎼
La fde da de de de----la de da de da

I love hearing their songs even today...AND my mom used to love them too. Happy Birthday Cher. Love you.
I was just 14 years old when this record hit the big-time. I remember us all thinking how exotic Cher was with her dark, dark hair, high cheek bones, and sultry style. She still mesmerizes. And that deep contralto voice! I get chills!
Gorgeous blue colors they’re wearing!!!
😅
That bass riff from Carol Kaye is unreal and made this song fly.
She was one of the best studio bass players in Hollywood then. She is all over Pet Sounds!
She was an active studio player at the time. She played on most of Pet Sound
Yes, from The Wrecking Crew.
Обожаю молодых Сони и Шер, особенно Сони красавчик, класный дуэт.

A great sixties song in fabulous quality - Thank you
a 60s song but i think this was from their TV show in the 70s tho .
By the time of their TV show in the 70s he had a mustache.
Sonny was a smart man. Recognizing Cher's unique voice. Standing by his wife's side b/c Cher was 2 afraid by herself on stage. Writing popular hits. Being able to get them their own show. The beat will always go on. Some “beats” may change but The Beat will always go on!
Cher was a child when she met Sonny! He also made it so she couldn't earn any money from her songs after they were divorced.

@@AmberWool How do you know that?
I always liked Cher and this song.😀👍✌️
Their voices go together so well. I remember, as a child, watching their show.

If this actually Carol Kaye, you're an absolute legend. I'm a guitar player turned bass player, now learning from the greats like yourself! Cheers
Jim Gordon on drums actually
Elle était superbe Cher! J'ai beaucoup aimé ce couple de chanteurs❤❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
my favorite song by them holds up well 60s anthem..fantastic backing horn section
And Carol Kaye from The Wrecking Crew on bass.

LOVE '60s music. Clean and fun
Give Sonny his credit for being so cool while Cher was grooving her sassy self. The perfect balance for this song.
