The eulogy Cher gave at Sonnys funeral was very moving, I have watched it a number of times, it's full of feeling, both happiness and sadness, and humour as well as she remembered the good times they shared. You can have many different feelings towards someone you are/have been close to, but they are still nevertheless valid, real feelings, if you truly did not care for that person any longer you would feel nothing.🌹
There would be no cher without sonny. He was the one who discovered her... who sang with her when she was far too shy. Who wrote 5 top hits for them to sing together. He was an incredible business man and genuis producer. Even cher has said without sonny there would be no cher. She respected him and needed him and of course he too needed her. I think their relationship is one of the most beautiful complicated mess that I have ever seen 😍 Love can make you crazy. Letterman show reunion was a perfect example of this. That chemistry is always there between them even when they have not performed togther in years. You can't script that. It isn't for show it's is 100 percent REAL. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

You could tell that David Letterman show meant a lot to Sonny - to be able to sing that song with her again. I didn't know it then, but apparently it meant a lot to Cher too. It's funny Carol Burnett and Cher had the same clothing/costume designer. And, also that the Donny & Marie show was very similar to Sonny & Cher, with the female putting down and making fun of the male, plus they all had the same guests on their shows. After the Sonny & Cher show ended, that kind of show was considered tacky, and I didn't like Cher's disco song "Take Me Home". Cher was a has-been and a joke. So, I thought (a lot of people did) that Cher's career was over. But, she got a part on Broadway and got rave reviews, she did more movies - great reviews - and she legitimized herself in the eyes of the world and became a superstar on her own. When she decided to go back into the recording studio and sing again, I thought that would put an end to everything she had worked so hard to achieve, but, no... She had hit records and her career carried on even bigger and famous than before. It was like someone flipped the switch and everything she touched turned to gold. Living in Hollywood for 30 years, I used to see Sonny in front of his restaurant to greet people when they would arrive for lunch or dinner, and he would walk them into the restaurant - the restaurant was at the crossing of two streets in a "Y" configuration. I also worked for a photographer that had worked with Cher on some very of the more famous pictures of her, but they had a falling out, so I never met either one of them. But as a kid, we watched Sonny & Cher, Donny & Marie, and a lot of other shows that are part of my memories of growing up. I still like the Cher joke that - There are only two things that would survive an Earth-destroying nuclear holocaust - cockroaches and Cher.

Gregg was like Elvis Presley when it came to women. They were put on the planet to make men happy and their needs didn't matter so I heartily agree with you that the marriage never had a chance.

What does being a Republican have to do with Sonny & Cher being musical entertainers that split up. Sounds like you just want to bring politics into this-we are talking about a marriage relationship & their only child-if they cheated on each other, then that would likely be the reason for their divorce. Only the two of them knows what really caused their marriage to end. It seemed as though they did love each other, but adultrey is never acceptable in any marriage & they were very young, had an age difference which might have caused some problems as well. It is sad to me that they could not stay together, I liked their songs & their show. I'm sure there were probably regrets on both sides later on. It sounds like a complicated situation for them, doing a show together after things were different between them. That must have been somewhat difficult. They did make a good team for awhile anyway. And when they sang for the last time together on David Letterman, it was great to see that they still cared about each other. AND that was a historical moment in music. We don't always know what goes on in marriages especially those public & famous people. But these are memories from my own youth, listening to them on the car radio! Those were the days.
