I've never quite understood people who say Sonny couldn't sing... Even Cher said it at Sonny's funeral. I've always liked his voice, and thought it had a unique sound... RIP Sonny.

I second that, and always got a chuckle from Sonny's line, "Grandmas sit in chairs and rem-o-nisce." Also dug Cher's line, "Electrically they keep a baseball score." What a song! Professionally, and possibly personally, all Cher ever needed was Sonny; RIP.

I have three youngsters. I am 62 born in 1956. The youngsters today refer to the early 1960's as the golden age of American culture. This video is Exhibit A. Look how happy and skinny these youngsters are and compare this with the kids today who have many anxiety and weight issues. No wonder everbody wishes they were 16 again and dancing on American Bandstand in the early 1960's. What a great time !

Hi @Andrew Haberman. Here’s what I think happened. Marcia, who danced on the show from ‘66-‘67 (and became a Production assistant in ‘68) was often referred to as their own personal Cher due to the resemblance. As they were cueing up this song the producers probably said make sure to film “our Cher”. When Marcia got tired of it, she jokingly dropped out of sight. Lol!

Enjoy anything original about Sonny & Cher because these 2 had such great chemistry together.. Both The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour (1971-1974) & The Sonny & Cher Show (1976-1977) were filmed at studios at CBS Studio City, not ABC. Not sure about the latter show, but The Comedy Hour was across from The Carol Burnett Show's studio.

@tpajay, The Comedy Hour (‘71-74) was filmed at CBS Television City for sure, but I read in a few places that the S&C Show (‘76-‘77) was filmed at ABC on Prospect:
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prospect_Studios

@@YCDTI I read that The Sonny & Cher Show (76/77) was done at CBS Studio City at Studio 41. The address was 7800 Beverly Blvd. Fairfax, L.A. The Comedy Hour (71-74) was done at Studio 31. I don't think that CBS would use ABC facilities for their network show (I'm not saying that sarcastically) . Sonny had an ABC show after the divorce called The Sonny Comedy Revue in 1974 & I wonder if that could be the show they are talking about filming at ABC. Aaron....welcome back!!!!! I've missed you and this great music, with my Saturday mornin' cup of joe! Cher lookalike is correct for Marcia. I spotted Don stepping quite a pace with Roni! Frank and Peggy were enjoying the beat (you had to look quickly) and on the riser Danny has the best moves.
Love this song!! If you've watched the documentary "The Wrecking Crew", then you may remember the studio bass player, Carol Kaye, changing Sonny Bono's bass line to the finger snapping sound you hear on the recording. No offense to Sonny, but Carol Kaye and the brass section MADE The Beat Goes On! Its soooo good to have Aaron back. I'll be looking forward to the full episodes in the future!!!!

You are absolutely right about Carol Kaye and that kickin’ bass line. She deserves a huge hunk of credit for making this song a hit. It’s hard to imagine the song without it. What would 60’s pop music have been without the Wrecking Crew and Motown’s Funk Brothers? Glad we will never know. Enjoy your cup of joe Jean!

@@AdrianDeVore Adrian, Don Sanuskar told me that the 14-year-olds had to have a parent with them in the studio. Those boys were probably too terrified to ask any girl sitting next to her Daddy for a dance. I know I would've been!

They're kinescopes. A kinescope is a camera that, using a cheaper grade of film stock, literally films the images being displayed on the studio's monitors... hence the compromised quality. They were used to provide a record of the show, not for any sort of re-broadcast.
Those 1950s Ampex recorders used a 2" tape cartridge that was hideously expensive and even major networks tended to simply wipe the tape clean and re-use it after broadcast. It's sad how most of our broadcasting history was lost just days after airing.

I thought that miniskirts were in by '67, but don't see any, here. The girl with the white belt was funny, when she ducked out of the way of the camera.
