  • One of the perks of traveling in your RV is experiencing new places, cultures, people, and food. But if you’re trying to stick to a budget, doing all those things at every stop can get expensive quickly. An easy way to save money on the road is by rethinking your meals and grocery shopping.
Here’s how you can save on meals and groceries during your next camping trip 💰
    Dining out:
Restaurant apps. Download apps of restaurants you and your family frequent for deals and coupons. Some restaurants also have point systems where you can earn points toward discounts and even free meals.
Share meals. Instead of ordering separate meals, consider splitting meals or ordering family-sized servings to save money.
Choose water. By ordering water, instead of fountain drinks or alcoholic beverages, you can easily save money at restaurants.
Lunch over dinner. Dine out during lunch hours, instead of dinner. Most restaurants have lunch menus that are often less expensive than their dinner selections.
Skip appetizers. Save your appetite for your meal, not appetizers. This way, you won’t be full by the time your meal arrives and you’ll save money.
Avoid holidays. Don’t dine out on holidays like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. Not only do restaurants tend to be busier, but they will often change their menu items with specials that can cost more.
Free meals for kids. If you’re traveling with children in tow, it’s a good idea to research the area you’re visiting to see which restaurants offer free or discounted children’s meals with the purchase of an adult entree.
Kids menu. If the restaurant allows, choose a meal from the kid’s menu. These are frequently cheaper than regular meals and the proportions are similar, if not the same.
    Groceries
Plan ahead. By planning meals ahead of time, you can reduce food waste and shop more efficiently. Try to grocery shop for 1 week at a time.
Order online. If you’re able to, order your groceries online and then pick them up outside of the store. This will not only save you time, but it prevents you from making impulse purchases while you’re in the store.
Discount stores. Research the area you’re visiting and find the nearest discount grocery stores like Aldi or Trader Joe’s. Walmart Supercenters are also a great choice, and often have adequate parking space for an RV.
Tally costs as you shop. By keeping track of your grocery expenses while shopping, you’ll be more inclined to stick to your list and avoid those impulse purchases that can add up.
Bring your own bag. Some areas don’t provide shopping bags at checkout, meaning you’ll need to purchase reusable bags at the store. By using your own reusable shopping bags, you’ll not only save money but help the environment too.
Don’t shop hungry. When you go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, you’re more likely to buy items you don’t need and foods that are convenient to make, which are often more expensive.
Skip precut items. While these items are more convenient, you pay for foods that are precut or prepped for cooking. With a little extra effort, you can cut and prep these items yourself and save money.
Leave the spenders behind. If your kids or significant other tend to put more items in your cart than needed, consider leaving them at the campsite for a cheaper, solo shopping excursion.
Choose generic. Staying away from popular food brands can save you a significant amount of money, and oftentimes, nobody will notice you bought generic.
Use leftovers. Making a meal big enough to eat twice can help save you money on groceries and cooking time at the campground.
