Stainless bowls are a 10/10. Storage bins and storage bags are a close second.

As a vanlifer I've become a big fan of soft containers - bags, sacks, duffles, etc. With rigid containers you usually have wasted precious space containing nothing but air. Soft containers collapse down with no wasted space and can conform to fit into oddly shaped spaces. So two thumbs up for the soft containers you featured.

I actually just went the other way :-D I travelled mostly with Ikea bags full of my stuff and it annoyed me how I could never stack them properly, they were just sliding everywhere in my car and it always looked kind of messy. I guess a good mix in between soft and hard packing solutions is the key (at least for me) 🙂

Thank you for making a point for not being sponsored on this video. I’m tired of RUclips “advertisements” that are disguised as interest focused videos. I never camp without a small broom and dust pan for cleaning out my tent.
Don’t forget the pet section (if there is one at IKEA). Reusable doggie piddle pads are great to use inside the tent to trap any residual dirt/water and are easy to wash.

Mate you missed the #1 best Ikea product (IMO) for camping, even though it's in the video at 7:30: the classic Ikea blue bag. They're PERFECT for bringing wood: large, durable, light, and with a double handle system whereby you thread the long handle through the opposite side short handle which pulls the mouth closed and stabilises it for carrying.

    • @stajp67
      @stajp67 Год назад +7

I would argue that if one can choose any item from Ikea - blue bag would be it. But not just any blue bag, the Ikea Frakta storage bag, which can be used on the Frakta trolley: it has handles to be a bag but you can also wear it as a backpack. And it's perfect size for your backpack to be packed in if you're flying without worrying that something will catch on conveyor belts at the airport.

I keep my tarps and moving blanket in one and my blankets/sleeping bags in another. They make it so easy to organize. And side note the flat bag with orange liner is perfect fit for wreaths. I store my different season door wreaths in them. Thanks for the recipe!

Ikea's kids section used to have a play cook set complete with a pot, pan, wok, spatula, wisk, and spoon that could be nesseled together into a pretty compact set. They work well over a butane burner and are perfectly sized for single-person setting.

I've had the bigger version of the waterproof bag for 3 years now, I use it to store my wet gear after swimming. It holds water in pretty well (starts leaking a bit after 2 days but I shouuuld take my stuff out after practice anyway) and doesn't have this wet feeling you often get with the lightweight ones. I haven't fully submerged it though, so I can't say how well it keeps water out, but it definitely works when kayaking or SUPing.

Fantastic video idea! This kind of content is so great for helping keep camping accessible-- not everybody lives within driving distance of an REI, so reminders about where else to pick up gear, especially cheaply, can be so helpful. Would love to see a "buy this, skip that" camping edition at a place like Dollar Tree. Metal tongs for the fire-- yes! Caribeaners and "rope" from there-- not safe!

The clips have that little circular part in the middle, and when you squeeze the clip open, you can insert the clothesline into that little hole and it will help the clip not slide back-and-forth if there’s wind or if the clothes line is not level. You can also use them as clips as you did in the tree branches.

I stopped at Ikea before going on a 4 week trek on the Via Francigena in May. I used the Rensare dry bag and packing cubes and they were perfect. At a fraction of the cost of similar functioning items they were ultra light and kept my pack well organized. Also, I had to check my backpack on the flight over and was able to find a ultralight weight zipper bag that easily fit my backpack and trekking poles. When I got to my destination it was light enough that I could fold it and stick it in the bottom of my pack with very little increase in weight.

I use the insulated flasks for carrying my milk, eggs(pre scrambled but nothing added so I can use them for anything I need to use them for), and any juice or anything that I don’t want to put a paper carton or something that might spill or be damaged by packing it in ice in my cooler. Plus, they save space by being streamlined and they are easy to pack and use without getting dirty or letting in bugs or anything at camp. And I can wipe them down before replacing into the cooler. I use them for road trips and hotel stays as well. They’re good for more than just water!

i bought all those tiny square towels a while ago when i first saw them. they are amazing, i use them at home as well. the packing cubes are really good, have been using them a lot for short trips. there is also a drawstring bag in the same fabric, i use that for my gym shoes in my backpack.
i have the waterproof bag in both sizes and use them more like a handbag to carry a bunch of small items around.
i did not know the white/orange one for shoes yet, that tells me i have to visit ikea again soon. love to go there for lunch!

Agreed, pesto with pasta is delicious! I love to add dried tomatoes and instead of chicken sausage - some ham fried on a pan and sliced. Quick and delicious meal! ♥

Thanks for the ideas! I prefer shopping on Amazon. I have lots of camping items, but azengear toothpick was a real find for me. It is a multi tool which I use not only for cleaning my teeth but also as a fork 😅

Your 'random' idea for an episode got you a sub. I'm going to enjoy your channel because you do what I love! The silicone bags piqued my interest for keeping things dry while kayaking, but then they actually had waterproof bags! That surprized me. Thanks for sharing!

There's also a stainless steel cooking set in the children's area. It's intended use is for play but its stainless construction and small size make it perfect for single serve cookware.

Great clip and thanks for sharing. The only 1 thing I would say though is don’t ever use those bamboo or timber chopping boards that are strips of wood pressed / laminated together as they’re an absolute haven for bacteria to grow in and make you very very sick. Go a solid piece of timber, ideally something made out of a naturally antibacterial timber species … like my 4 Wheeling In NSW chopping boards available on my website. These have been independently and scientifically tested and they WILL NOT grow bacteria on them, even in commercial kitchen setups.
So yes, avoid the laminated boards like Covid-19 ! 😂
    Great clip though, well done!

I use welding gloves, great to hold very hot pans if you cook over a fire. Then I use them to weld at home. 😊

No IKEA store near me. Looks like a great place, I'm glad we don't have one nearby or my wife would spend a fortune 🤣🤣🤣. Curious though, how much of it is made in China? Your husband/partner is a lucky man.

The storage bags are awesome for camping and they cost so little (1€ here in Italy) I have tons of them. I would love for then to have a proper handle instead of a hook but they're great nonetheless at least to group things together like sleeping bags or towels or even dirty laundry.

You just helped me so much with that Silicone Collapsible Wash Basin! I recently purchased a clear Acrylic one (not collapsible) because many collapsible ones have a sink drain hole in them and I didn't need that added feature. The Silicone one you featured 🙌 👏 😍 will be PERFECT and NO hole! BTW, $17.00 plus change and tax is what I shelled out for the ok Acrylic one so YES love your find so much better! Thanks 😊.

Ooo the collapsable basin is great. I have one from Coghlan’s that I love but it’s too big for my camping bin so I always have to store it loosely. This one looks small enough to fit!
