THANK YOU for this suggestion Jason. I tried the Cover Roll tape which works well to stick lips together, but don't like the fact that it's permeable and lets a little air in and out. I like to sleep on my back and still get a dry mouth with this tape in place because it stretches enough to let my lips separate slightly, even with a soft cervical collar, and thus allows that little bit of airflow through it, which adds up over the night. So I reverted to the one method that seems to work for me - put lips together, cover acroos mouth with a piece of one and a half inch wide athletic tape (Walgreen's...cheap) and then wrap a length of inch and a half wide self adhesive stretch bandage (like the stuff they put on after you have blood drawn - it's cheap online also) over the athletic tape and lapped a couple of inches in back of the neck to secure it, which keeps the non-breathable athletic tape in place all night.

Perfect timing. My masking tape got saliva under my bottom lip, unstuck and while I thought I was sleeping all night, the fact I had to freeze my tongue and use a Bosch Bulldog (hammer drill) with a wide, heated chisel to unstick it from the roof of my mouth was an instant clue I hadn't. Planned to remodel kitchen all day.
No concentration and all yawns, so I just took a useless 1 hr nap. Leaked again. Very disappointed because I had just replaced my AirFit P30i and expected wake up revived. I'm going to try that tape.

Thanks Jason. I had to shave my beard off to use the tape you recommended. It worked wonderfully. I used the tape for about a year until I realized that I didn’t have a mouth leak problem anymore. I have since regrown my beard with very few incidents of mouth leak over the last year. I will give the denture cream a try if mouth leaks become a problem again. Thanks for your very useful videos on CPAP.

Please do a video review on this solution I have been using for years: I buy a pack of polyester/spandex or cotton/spandex headbands from amazon. Instead of putting them on my head, I put it over my mouth around the back of my head below my ears and over my cheeks. It doesn't 100% seal like tape, but for some odd reason, it totally works. If I forget to use it, I leak like crazy and wake up with dry mouth. Reusable, washable, cheap, and no glue residue, no taste, no cleanup, works with or without a beard, and no panic from not being able to open your mouth or breathe. I do not know WHY it works (seems counter intuitive that air permeable fabric would work), but do give it a try/review.

Sleeping in the fowler position works very well for me ... In that position and with the collar on, my face is parallel to the wall, so I place a large sponge between my chest and chin and that, in addition to preventing my head to go forward, also keeps the mouth closed without squeezing it. The pressure that is needed also drops exponentially with this position and it is much easier to exhale ...

Thanks for this tip! I'm using another denture fixator which is available in the EU, the main difference being that it hardens. The advantage of that is that it's very easy to get off in the morning, it's just a single solid piece, leaving zero residue. The disadvantage is that it can't be resealed - if I forcibly open my mouth, it will come off and will not reattach. It will also rip out any facial hair it happens to stick onto. Ouch. I've learned to trim properly, or suffer the consequences. 😉

I've been using a CPAP for 20 years and have tried almost everything to get a good nights sleep but I don't think I'll try tooth paste. What I have found is I now shave about every other day. You see, I used to have a mustache and beard, not any more. That was about 50% of my problem now that my pressure has been increased, I leak air through my mouth exactly as you demonstrated. A chin strap, yuck, it hurts. You can't sleep with crap wrapped around your head. I guess I'll try some of that stretchy stuff you talked about. I'll let ya' know.

I love this comment because it's exactly how I looked at taping when I first heard of it. "Those fools have lost their damn minds."
But......I wouldn't use tape with a FFM. In that case you just want to "block" your jaw to prevent jaw drop. This is the likely source of the dry mouth with a FFM.

    • @AngryBeerrin
      @AngryBeerrin 3 года назад

I don't know anything about hypafix. The Cover Roll sticks to my face and beard but not so much that its difficult to remove. It's not pleasant to remove but it's better than the feeling of choking on my throat all night and not breathing. It doesn't even feel like there's tape on my face with Cover Roll. I tried other medical tapes and they were okay but they blew open and were less comfortable. The Cover Roll is wide. It let's your skin breathe. It doesn't leave sticky residue on my lips like the others did. I'm not sure if it will work in the winter with dry chapped lips but I've been sleeping great lately so I'll take it.

I use 2" 3m micropore tape - with a beard. The edges around my mouth are trimmed and provide enough surface for
it to work. The thing to note is *you can forcibly make it come loose enough to yawn through* - but it keeps your lips together. I think people get hung up thinking too much about the *tape* making a seal, when really *it only needs to hold your lips together*.

Yucky... Full Face Masks cause you to swallow air at a rapid rate and actually dries out your mouth...
Most quit using their C-paps cus they have to use a Full Face Mask...
Try a simple chin strap under your nasal gear...
The incoming air will keep your passages open as you sleep... Mine always close up after I take it off...
Also, don't have the air too warm or cold coming in...
Just about air temperature that you normally breathe is fine... Adjust your humidity too... Too much and you'll think ( in your sleep ) that you're drowning 😳

It didn't stop the air from blasting through the corners of my mouth and cleanup was a **hellacious** chore! That stuff does not want to come off. It's got to be the most waterproof substance on the face of the earth!! Trying to scrub it off just smeared it all over everything -- fingers, teeth, lips (inside and out) gums. It defies water and washing. The only way I could get it off was with a toothbrush+soap+hotwater. Then the toothbrush was loaded with the goop and only fit for the trashcan. And I still didn't get it all... At one point, I was seriously eyeballing the wife's acetone fingernail polish remover.

PS... Ya really didn't have to act like a wus ... It's educational 👅
Ever see a science video on human sexuality in school ???
