I have used tape every night for many years with a nasal pillow mask and have never had a problem except for occasional skin redness in small areas, but that's pretty rare (a little dab of skin lotion on the spot, and it clears up nicely, but not instantly). I use 2 inch width Micropore tape and I like to use the tan color because it looks less scary to other members of the household, and they mock me less too. Other than color, there's no difference between white and tan. I've never used the painter's tape and don't think I ever will. I put Burt's Bees lip balm on my lips lightly before putting the tape on so that my lips themselves have no chance of sticking to the tape. Any lip balm will work, though I like to avoid the sunscreen type because whatever additive used for that is not needed at night. The following are a few tips to make the tape easy to remove quickly and to make it so it lasts through the night until morning ... the tape will get quite damp by morning due to the humidity in your breath and whatever else would normally drool out. Cut the tape so that it just covers the lips left and right sides like shown in the video, though I use the 2 inch tape instead of joining two 1 inch pieces. Avoid making the tape too long, it doesn't really help seal any better if it goes past where the top and bottom lips join on left/right sides. I've never felt the need to do the slit in the tape thing. Rabbit ear down onto itself, sticky side to sticky side, all 4 corners of the tape, about a quarter inch will do, so that if you need to get it off quickly you have any one of four corners to easily grab. The Micropore tape is quite thin and will be hard to find an edge to grab in a pinch. Get the lip balm on, then with mouth shut and top and bottom lips touching, roll your lips inward over the top of your teeth and even suck in a tiny bit to pull your lips just a tad inward more. And I really mean just a tiny amount, as in barely any at all, on the inward suction bit. In that lip-curled-in position with mouth still very lightly pressed shut, put the tape on making sure you leave a gap between the top edge of the tape and the bottom of your nose. You definitely don't want the tape touching any part of your nose. With the tape on and mouth relaxed, your lips will loosen from the curled-in position. Even though it feels like your lips stop covering your teeth, this lip curl-in trick makes all the difference between getting moisture induced leaks in the tape by morning and keeping everything sealed all night long even at high CPAP pressure. If the tape still isn't sticking well throughout the night, it could be you have fairly oily skin like I do. Washing with soap and water, and drying before applying the tape should solve that issue. In a rush, a very lightly moistened swab with rubbing alcohol on it wiped over the area of your face that the tape will stick on will take care of the excess skin oil. Wow, look at all that dirt that just came off your face! Yuck! I never wake up with dry mouth anymore since I started using tape. And using a full face mask prior to the nasal mask has produced large permanent bags under my eyes. Now a cough or a sneeze with the tape on is a very nasty experience, the tape does not blow off, so be careful. My pulmonary doctor knows I do this (not sneeze and cough with tape on ... but using the tape at night I'm talking about), and I've been through a couple sleep studies with the tape on and have only gotten support for this anti-puffing technique. It certainly works for me!
I sneezed two times over the years I've used mouth tape ... and both times are memorable, but I've suffered no damage. I will feel the sneeze coming on, and it really only happens if I have to get up but I'm not ready to de-tape (which is another tricky bit). But when I feel it coming on, I get ready for it, sometimes I can focus on not sneezing and stop it, but when that doesn't work I take effort to make the sneeze subdued. But yes, sneezing with a taped mouth is a concern. Perhaps that's one really good reason why Lanky Lefty suggested putting a small slit the middle. Though I'm not sure the slit would help any the way I tape (as I described above) since curling the lips back just before applying the tape makes the lips form a tight gasket, and that "gasket" works well even at high pressure all night long. Sneezing with tape on is not a fun experience!
Hi Jay. Hmmm. I've never had a situation where I felt a sneeze coming on while I'm also on CPAP. I'm not exactly sure what your question is though at this point, but I'll give it a shot. I can't use a full face mask because wearing one causes humungous bags under my eyes ... like bags under the bags under my eyes. So I always use either nasal pillows (the AirFit P10 has been my favorite for years) or a nasal cushion type interface along with the mouth tape. Most recently I've had to switch to the DreamWear interface because my nares are now too big for the largest nasal pillow that ResMed makes. And none of the hybrid style masks works for me ... I've tried them all! If I could get a hybrid mask to seal well on my face throughout the night, I'd ditch using the mouth tape in an instant!
BabbleBits Basically, think about what would happen if you had your mouth taped and you had the nasal pillows inside, then you sense vomit and/or sneezing to arise? See what I mean?
I was a mouth breather so I used a FFM for many years but due to my face shape (I guess), there is always big leak (tried several FFM same results) and dry mouth even with humidifier. I also try chin strap and it does not help much. Finally saw some posts on mouth taping and tried it for a couple of nights and no dry mouth, bought a nasal pillow mask and Sleepyhead said I have almost no leak. After about 14 months, I decided to not tape my mouth and guess what, I guess my body adjusted and I don't open my mouth anymore and according to Sleepyhead, no leaks. It is so much nicer to not use FFM and also nasal pillow are so much smaller and easier to travel with
I actually had this problem and was within about 10 seconds of taking the CPAP machine back to the provider and telling them what they could do with it when I decided to try one last thing to keep my lips closed while sleeping. I got a cheap ($2.99) elastic sweatband on eBay, the kind you wear on your forehead while exercising, and pulled it down so it fit around my head, but over my mouth. Then I put on my nose pillow CPAP mask and was able to sleep the entire night for the first time in over a month of having the CPAP machine. It's not completely air-tight, I could breathe through it if I had to, so that solves the fear of choking, but it's tight enough to keep my lips closed, which was the original problem. This will probably only work with nose masks because of the thickness of the headband, so getting a full-face mask to seal properly would be a problem. For anyone having trouble with air leaks out their mouth while sleeping, it's cheap enough to be worth a try.
It works great, thanks for the video. I bought Nexcare micropore tape yesterday. First tried it for a short nap. Then used it last night for 5hrs of sleep. Worked so good, I hated my chin strap, that still didn’t do the job by the way. Awoke mouth not dry for the first time since gettin cpap 3 months ago. I have to say that the tape seems too much for my sensitive skin, so I put in a overnight order for the Sonifix mouth tape on Amazon. Your video tipped me to try this, awesome!
Micro-pore tape works, one up-down, the other across. Suitable for sleeping on plane, visiting, etc .... when CPAP machine not there; stops snoring. Tape easily fits my belt-bag. Sneeze or cough with the full-face CPAP mask shifts the tapes. Quick removal (answering phone) takes longer. So now I use the plastic mouth guard. Disposable one-size mouth guard lasts a long time. Sports mouthguard, moulded to my teeth, is bigger to store. Air leaking out of mouth with CPAP - removes the moisture from my mouth; creating thirsty, painful mouth and nose passages.
Omg this video is hilarious! I'm starting to be obsessed with your videos. Informative and pretty funny. That cut-scene from Kill Bill still has me dyiiiing. :) Thank You
Omg YES I have had the lip sputtering problems and so many times. It can be so frustrating. You're HILARIOUS and always keep me entertained which I love while watching and learning more about sleep apnea!
7/2020: Age 78. Female. Back sleep/snorer. Severe apnea diagnosed 2018. Initial equipment: nasal mask. I added chin strap. Lots of leaks, irregular sleep, but OK for Medicare. ENT eval. 6 mo. ago showed collapsing nasal cartilage. Between then and now tried SomniFix; works fairly well. Last month respiratory therapist suggested a nasal cradle mask. No chin strap. USING PAPER TAPE TO SEAL. SomniFix directions: first suck lips into a tuck line, then apply their tape. To avoid can't-breathe thing, I place an almost square piece, two 1" wide pieces slightly overlapped, not covering 1/2" sides of mouth. Six weeks later: better sleep, virtually no leaks. Sleep numbers have to be up. It looks like these comments are fairly old, but I was interested in your take about what tape to use. I don't know what micropore is, but I definitely will not use blue painters and am sticking with the paper tape. :-}
I use micropore... for years now. I fold one corner for quick removal. Also if I run my nail thru the micropore between leaps it comes apart very easy.
I am a mouth breather mostly because of sinus allergies but when I used the nasal mask I didn't have that problem because of the force i had no mouth leak or sputtering probably because I have bruxism lol but I couldnt stand the dang things so I used a full face that thing drove me nuts it would wake me up with a giant leak because in my sleep I would pull the hose out of the mask or it would wake me sputtering against my face so I wound up duck taping the hose to the mask and wore my bandana tied around my head and across the mask no more sputtering. now I use the dreamwear nasal mask and I'm in love!! lol thank you Joanna!!!!!
I also find the chin-up strips available online work really well if you don't feel comfortable taping your mouth. They are like 50 cents a piece if you break down the math.
Just getting back in to Bipap therapy, using DreamWear Full Face mask, had dry mouth. Ordered Somnifix from Amazon, last night was second time to use it Slept best in years, scored 99 on MyAir, .6 event per hour vs 7.2. No dry mouth, first time in years.
If you're a mouth breather then taping your mouth can only be beneficial. When your lower jaw drops open your tongue can slip into your throat causing an obstruction. Add this to any obstruction you may also have coming from your neck and you're having to increase the pressure on your machine to keep all of this open. Reduce the tongue obstruction if there is one and you most likely can reduce the air pressure needed which makes for a more "pleasant" experience.
What a FANTASTIC video! I stumbled on this and very glad I did. I've found that if you don't shave every day, taping doesn't do that great after 2-3 days. And, yeah, in the winter, my lips get a bit chapped and when I've "taped", my lips get the sh*t torn out of them but I do get good nights sleep.
I used to not be able to breath through my constantly blocked nose. The first time I mouth taped i was afraid I'd suffocate, I had to wrk up to taping. After a year I could breath through my nose and keep my mouth shut all night. I used to always open my mouth after falling asleep. BTW, fold the ends of the tape leaving a tab that you can grab quickly in case of a breathing emergency, You can rip the tape off in a second, it saved me a few times.
Yes! I meant to add to my comment today that I don't use a huge 2 piece combo and fold tiny tabs on both sides, not top and bottom, to better remove tape.
@@susanbarrett9974 same here. I folded wings on each side so I could tear off quickly in emergency. I had one instance of waking up in a panic and was able to get the tape off half asleep. I dont recommend not having a tab to pull it off. I also didn't use a wide strip, just the minimum width to keep it attached
Mouth tape for me was the real game-changer. 3M micropore tape. It took a few weeks to get used to. After a few years, I purchased a CPAP with a nasal mask. I used the nasal mask with the tape and it works well. However, I didn't feel the CPAP machine made my sleep quality any better. For now, just the mouth tape is sufficient. It stays on and I'd encourage people to try it before splashing out large cash on a CPAP machine.
I actually have a cheap chin strap and tried to use it with a new Dreamwear mask. No bueno. So I just pulled my chin strap up over my lips and haven't had any trouble since.
I am switching from a full face mask to a Resmed P10 nasal pillow this week. My provider recommended a product called Somnifix to tape my mouth. I tried it in the lab and it felt comfortable and does allow for breathing and speaking. I'm hoping I can get a better nights sleep with these two instead of the uncomfortable mask. I'll report back on my results if I remember!
@@madwithhats I've tried the mask and the Somnifix for a few nights. The first night I felt claustrophic with the Somnifix, but the other nights have been comfortable. I'm struggling with the mask. I need to start at a low ramp to make it comfortable, otherwise I feel like I can't exhale. But once asleep I'm ok for a few hours. I started with the medium and moved to the large pillow, which made it easier to breath (but still hard to exhale). The big problem is that the pillow makes my nostrils hurt after a few hours. So I'm back to the full face mask. I'll probably try it again at a time when I can afford a few bad nights of sleep.
@@pciarfella Got it. Thank you for the info. I wish anything was comfortable enough for me to not struggle. I mean holy hell. Smh. So damn tired even after sleep for whatever amount of time.
I've got micropore surgical tape in my bedside table. I tried it last night and had no problem getting it off, but I used only one strip across my lips. I'll try it tonight with a slit.
Taping has saved my teeth! Before tape I woke with a very dry mouth and gums were receding making my mouth unhealthy. I now wake after sleeping with taping mouth more rested and no more dry mouth in the morning! It’s EZ! I use a small piece of the weak tape - no problem even with face hair.
i use chap stick on my lips and light coating of coconut oil just above my upper and lower lip before placing the micropore tape. It still sticks well and it wont pull your skin off when you take it off. I did that the first night...LOL.
I just cut a I/4 to 1/2 inch piece of 1/2 inch micropore paper tape and center it vertically over my upper and lower lips. This small piece effectively holds my mouth closed all night but allows for the needed flexibility for unexpected occurances like coughs, sneezes or power outages. A great trick to make the adhesive of the tape gentler on the skin/lips is to press the tape on some fabric before applying. It seems to remove enough but not too much of the stickiness so that it remains in place until removed in the morning. Nothing worked for me before this (chin straps/full face masks) and the price is right for the tape on Amazon.!
My cheeks puff up when i tape and saliva dampens the tape and air would eventually come out. I use mirage liberty now. It's more comfortable than other full-face mask.
I used tape last night and it kept my mouth shut but kept puffing out my cheeks and kept me awake. I was so frustrated I took off my mask after 4 hours.so I could get to sleep.
Lefty, I used the new commercial product Somnifix and lost my pressure from the safety hole and SpO2 went down to 88. Is all hopeless? Back to leaky full face?
I threw up one night on CPAP. I ripped off the mask very quickly when I felt it coming. (I had food-poisoning.) If I had had tape over my mouth, I would have ended up with vomit in my nasal cavity and on gasping it would also end up in my lungs. Ever had vomit go into your lungs? You won't like it. It is scary as shit. So my recommendation is, do NOT tape your mouth. Having said that, if my CPAP mask did not have a quick-release tab, I would have had a mask full of vomit, and that would have been bad too. So use your own judgement. There are times when I have had both nasal passages block. In that situation, CPAP becomes impossible, from my experience, and you have to wait for one side to clear. Again, bear that in mind if you want to tape your mouth. You know when you see a hostage with their mouth taped in a movie? I am pretty sure there are people who would quickly die like that because their nose can fully block.
😮 🤔💭well I don’t know about your thinking here. After all we’re not talking about using Gorilla glue on your lips 👄 😅. I’ve been using paper tape (available at you drug store) for years and it does the job on problems and you can open your mouth 👄 with very little pressure and yet it keeps your mouth closed due treatment. With the force of a throw up 🤢, y’all have NO problem opening your mouth 👄. 🙊🤢🤮
For a few hints on taping, I just uploaded a video -- I've always been quite astonished how many misunderstandings there are regarding the taping issue ...
Hi. Your video is very encouraging. I have tried a few different tapes and nothing has worked. can you post the brands in English or Tell us how to order the tapes you used in your video? thank you so much.
I have issues with mouth leaks. I have read where people have choked because their mouths were taped. I use an ACE bandage with velcro attachments. I wrap it around my chin and mouth. This can get a little warm but prevents leaks. It is easily removed or I can force my mouth open if I need to. I know this an older video, but I thought someone could benefit from it.
@@bbradfor1 it does sometimes. They need to be washed or replaced frequently. I use the ones that have velcro attachments. Don't use the self sticking ones as they leave a sticky residue. It can get warm and sometimes make my jaw hurt if it is to tight but worth it for good sleep.
I kinda don't get the mouth leak. If I leak I'm not aware of it. Does the cpap keep the air way open if I only exhale from the mouth. I can talk and not leak any air. I have taped with the white tape and it doesn't worry me but can get saliva on it occasionally and it comes loose. How do you know if you are leaking. Does it show on the machine as a mask leak? or as AHI's? I use a nasal pillow- the one that sits under your nose. Tried the mouth guard ( even before you mentioned it)but found that I started clenching my teeth and have caused dental problems. I still exhale through it so I blocked the hole. Lastly, if I exhale through my mouth in a full mask why is that any different to the nasal pillow? thanks
Mask Brite is the BOMB ! One question though I saw you use like 3 pumps to inside of hose. I use like 10 and I shosh it around for much longer - am I wasting the product?
Dude I tape it's the only thing that has helped me from mouth puffing I have to use some serious tape. It only works 3-5 days a week. Now my full face mask leaks air into my stomach do you know about that?
I am using the resmed liberty Mirage and I have to tape the nostril bits to my nose. I use meopore tape. But the hospital version managed to rip some skin off my face ouch.
when I tape my mouth, the tape gets moist during the night and leaks out the corners of the mouth. I don't see how putting the slit in the tape is going to keep the air from blowing out....my cheeks really puff up drastically!! I can not stand wearing a FFM, I get too many leaks. I have the N20 now and it's working for me, but the last couple of nights, my mouth taping has been successful....but, large leaks evidently coming out the mask, so I'm baffled.
You may want to consider another option such as a boil and bite double sided mouth guard or a soft cervical collar. The collar needs to be fairly snug though to keep your chin (lower jaw) from moving.
@@Freecpapadvice thanks, but a collar won't work....my mouth does not open, the air just forcefully puffs out my mouth, even when closed...like blowing a raspberry. I am trying to envision a device like a dam that fits between the lips and teeth, but the only thing I've seen that comes close is the device used to anchor the tongue...don't want that. I'll figure something out.
I tape and use the 3M silicone tape. It is a strong adhesive but comes right off in the morning and doesn't irritate my skin. I get it at Target. It is more expensive, but worth it. I fold over an inch of the tape to form a "tab" that I can grab to quickly rip the tape off my mouth if I need to. Thanks for the videos! Do you have plan on making a video concerning UARS? I've always had allergy problems and nasal polyps. CPAP has helped my sleep quality immensely.
What about UARS would you like to know if I did a video on it? Just an overview? Thanks for adding the information on the type of tape that you use. I'll check it out.
TheLankyLefty27 It would be nice to know what sleep techs and doctors are looking for on the sleep results to make a UARS diagnosis. It would also be interesting to hear an insider's take on how the sleep community views UARS. In my experience, it seems like many sleep doctors shrug UARS off as a fictional condition and won't prescribe CPAP for it. In my case a nasal endoscopy clearly showed large nasal polyps and back scratch tests showed many environmental allergies... all of which caused my nighttime breathing problems. I finally had to fly to London to find a doctor who would prescribe CPAP. (it is ridiculous that it is easier to get opioids than a CPAP machine) I've been on CPAP for UARS for two years and it has helped me immensely. It is no placebo effect. It would be nice to see a video on all the conditions besides classical sleep apnea that CPAP can help.
I tore apart my mask and stopped using it for almost a year because I woke to choking on some acid reflux or whatever. I couldn't spit, swallow, cough, breathe, etc. It was the scariest shit. Just started using cpap again last night with a nose pillow. The mouth blubber thing was a trip. Felt like I couldn't breathe. Then felt like my stomach was filling with air. I think I got a couple or few hours in before I turned it off and slept on my side or stomach. Sucks man.

Hello! As someone who's trying a full face mask with a lot of leaking happening, I'm thinking of trying this instead. I wanted to get some of the Mask Bright, but there's no option for shipping to Australia. Do you have a retailer down here who sells it? Many thanks, Rob.
I don't. Sorry. Good news is that I don't think Mask Bright would help you with this problem. If you're having leaking with a full face mask, please check out my video on the subject. I think it will be of more help. A oily or greasy mask cushion can cause leaking, but a more likely culprit is mouth drop. Here is the link to my video as well as the solution: ruclips.net/video/FuljE0Qe1Lg/видео.html
Question: if I was mouth breathing in my sleep will it report as AHI episodes or not? I notice I do the mouth breathing a little as I fall asleep. Wondering if I'm doing it on my sleep which is why the nasal mask isn't working well.
I currently use a Full Face mask because I am a mouth breather. Would you use the tape with a Full Face mask? I am able to breathe just fine through my nose when I am awake and not congested. I have both the nasal and pillow masks that I have tried over the last 6/months but did not sleep very well as the air was escaping from my mouth. Would the air just blow the tape off if my mouth was taped whether I used a full face or nasal mask? You are a funny guy who does a great job of communicating about such important subject that for me has been challenging and not much fun. Thank you for the time you put into these videos.
You can try two other things before taping. You can use a double sided boil and bite mouth guard (like the MMA fighters use). You can also try a soft cervical collar to keep your jaw up and in place. Both of these are effective in minimizing or eliminating mouth leaks.
I was a mouth breather too. partially due to allergies and partially die to deviated septum. have been getting allergy shots for several years (helped a lot) and then last year had the deviated septum fixed and now I can use the nasal mask (Wisp) which is so much more comfortable.Even with the nasal mask still have to wear a breathe right to bed. Still, if I have a cold have to wear full face mask.
I have been taping my mouth and I keep waking up with the air blowing into my mouth, tape still intact. Is this happening because my mouth still opens even though my lips are sealed? Or could my pressure be too high?
I use next care water proof first aid tape but by morning my saliva has broken through it that's why I only get 3-5 good nights. Let me say this if you have a mouth leak that you can't fix I believe it's better to just go without Cpap because it will just make your apnea worst
@@Freecpapadvice ive been trying to get acclimated to cpap therapy for 2 years off and on i have tried many different pressures 3 different masks and humidity settings my cpap clinician pretty much gave up on me for advice and ideas also from using it my nose gets congested when i do use it and my breathing patterns just feels different any advice?
This is probably a stupid question BUT what would you prefer... no tape and have mouth leaks or taped mouth with no or much less leaks? Actually that is probably the dumbest question ever! So why am I submitting this? Who knows..lol

Hey Lanky... The breathable pores tape is designed to be removed with the addition of water. Makes it MUCH easier to remove.

Thanks, I will try mine with full face mask.
I’m on my 3rd box of Somnifix. It has changed my whole CPAP experience for the better. At least made it more tolerable.
:) Thank You
Pai Mei cracks me up. "You speak Cantonese like dog!!!!"
I'm glad that you are obsessed with the videos. Makes my day!
Omg YES I have had the lip sputtering problems and so many times. It can be so frustrating. You're HILARIOUS and always keep me entertained which I love while watching and learning more about sleep apnea!
7/2020: Age 78. Female. Back sleep/snorer. Severe apnea diagnosed 2018. Initial equipment: nasal mask. I added chin strap. Lots of leaks, irregular sleep, but OK for Medicare. ENT eval. 6 mo. ago showed collapsing nasal cartilage. Between then and now tried SomniFix; works fairly well. Last month respiratory therapist suggested a nasal cradle mask. No chin strap. USING PAPER TAPE TO SEAL. SomniFix directions: first suck lips into a tuck line, then apply their tape. To avoid can't-breathe thing, I place an almost square piece, two 1" wide pieces slightly overlapped, not covering 1/2" sides of mouth. Six weeks later: better sleep, virtually no leaks. Sleep numbers have to be up. It looks like these comments are fairly old, but I was interested in your take about what tape to use. I don't know what micropore is, but I definitely will not use blue painters and am sticking with the paper tape. :-}
Another entertaining video on one of the most dull subjects ever. Thanks!
That's great Greg. Glad that it worked!
I use a small dab of Aquaphor on my lips to prevent that issue. The tape still holds just fine above and below.
I use a full face mask. (and have dry mouth problem) Have to see if it works w/o messing up the mask seal.
Lefty! Your videos are addicting dude! Never thought of taping the mouth, lol! I think that's why I just elected for the full mask.
Using this would encourage me to sleep on my back more even though I know that invites more Apneas. This seems like a positive development.
As for sleep tech not recommending tape, I suspect they want you to buy their ridiculously expensive chin strap instead
Yes, yes, yes I have thought about doing this many times. I have tried everything else. Thanks
I actually have a cheap chin strap and tried to use it with a new Dreamwear mask. No bueno. So I just pulled my chin strap up over my lips and haven't had any trouble since.
I like the adjustment Kanesha!
Cool. Never thought of that.
Please let us know. I'm curious because I just started nose pillow. Breathing felt almost confusing the closer I got to falling asleep.
@@madwithhats Still waiting for the insurance . I'll report back later.
@@pciarfella Sounds good man. Thank you.
I have dry mouth , and since I have central sleep apnea, I would be afraid of choking to death...???
I've got micropore surgical tape in my bedside table. I tried it last night and had no problem getting it off, but I used only one strip across my lips. I'll try it tonight with a slit.
Taping has saved my teeth! Before tape I woke with a very dry mouth and gums were receding making my mouth unhealthy. I now wake after sleeping with taping mouth more rested and no more dry mouth in the morning! It’s EZ!
I use a small piece of the weak tape - no problem even with face hair.
I've setup my cpap to a UPS. Then I have power failure alarm. So I can wake up before the cpap stops working.
I just cut a piece of gray duct tape...it works great and is the cheapest stuff out there, LOL
i use chap stick on my lips and light coating of coconut oil just above my upper and lower lip before placing the micropore tape.
I didn't take the risk of taping and now use F&P Simplus FFM.
My cheeks puff up when i tape and saliva dampens the tape and air would eventually come out. I use mirage liberty now. It's more comfortable than other full-face mask.
How is it working?
I used tape last night and it kept my mouth shut but kept puffing out my cheeks and kept me awake. I was so frustrated I took off my mask after 4 hours.so I could get to sleep.
Lefty, I used the new commercial product Somnifix and lost my pressure from the safety hole and SpO2 went down to 88. Is all hopeless? Back to leaky full face?
My next video actually touches on this. It will be out this week.
Wouldn't you be able to rip the tape off just as fast?
@Tapper Wetram Hey I don't see ur video. Please let me know if u uploaded it somewhere else; neither of these tapes seem to work for me
I have issues with mouth leaks.
Hi Brian does the ace bandage not get moist from your mouth?
@@bbradfor1 it does sometimes. They need to be washed or replaced frequently. I use the ones that have velcro attachments. Don't use the self sticking ones as they leave a sticky residue. It can get warm and sometimes make my jaw hurt if it is to tight but worth it for good sleep.
@@bg45420 thanks!!
I use 1.5” masking tape. Works fantastic to prevent dry mouth with Amara View. I can’t use nasal pillows. Just saying….
Dude I tape it's the only thing that has helped me from mouth puffing I have to use some serious tape. It only works 3-5 days a week. Now my full face mask leaks air into my stomach do you know about that?
Thanks, bro--my AHI dropped to 0.3, and I feel great after only 5 hours. Unfortunately, it's 2:20 in the morning!
You're so used to getting by on practically no sleep. It's a good problem to have!!! :^)
Your videos are always amazing....keep up your good work 😉😃👍👍👍
Thank you for watching Walter. Always nice to hear when the videos are well received. :^)
Would anyone recommend taping even if you have a FFM? Just found the channel, thank you!
No. You'd use a soft cervical collar, double sided moldable mouth guard, or chinstrap.
@@Freecpapadvice Thanks again Lefty!👍😆
Nice! Have you used tape over the mouth during a study before?
All it takes is one GERD reflux event to make you rethink taping. Alas! I really liked taping.
Sucks man.
@@madwithhats unrelated, but I've been on a whole food, plant based diet for 16 months. No GERD ever anymore. Cheers
@@m.d.8032 How is this unrelated??? Sounds like you found something that worked wonders for you. At the moment I'm overwhelmed with a lot already. But once I'm more clear in the mind, I wouldn't mind trying to turn my diet on it's head and doing something like that. I have relatives that did the same and it was a huge change for them too. But, what will we do with our chin straps?
Can you suffocate from this?
No, Ryan. But it can feel like it! LOL!
I wake up with air leak ,after I sleep for about 5 hours and really bad dry mouth
Where does the exhausted breath go? If it goes into the tube back pressure then wont it feel like breathing into a paper bag?
Out the diffuser of the mask. Like an exhaust.
I hope it doesn't always make such noise. I could never sleep.
Question:
if I was mouth breathing in my sleep will it report as AHI episodes or not? I notice I do the mouth breathing a little as I fall asleep. Wondering if I'm doing it on my sleep which is why the nasal mask isn't working well.
Yes, it very likely would record as an AHI episode.
I tape my mouth on CPAP, it doesn't work if I don't.
but if the power goes out would'nt your brain automatically wake you up?
Probably, but some folks sleep through anything.
wish i was them sometimes
maxlaxx no. Some sleep apnea is caused by your brain not telling you to breath. It’s called central sleep apnea
@@scrambledmegs2272 Same here. I tape and still bubbles of air release around my gums into my mouth.
I tape and still get dry mouth, what am I doing wrong
Hi :) Do you have any videos on full face mask leaks?
Yes...yes I do. Search for "Full Face Mask" and "Mouthguard" in my channel. Should come up.
Since I can’t breathe through my nose I couldn’t tape
the p10 mask will keep your nose open all night
I use next care water proof first aid tape but by morning my saliva has broken through it that's why I only get 3-5 good nights. Let me say this if you have a mouth leak that you can't fix I believe it's better to just go without Cpap because it will just make your apnea worst
Taping is the only thing that works for me. Eventually, I hope to train myself to keep my mouth shut naturally.
I do glue the tape to itself a little to make a handle that's easy to grab. I don't like the thought of trying to pick the tape off while suffocating.
That was great! Thank you.
Exactly what happens to me. haven't used CPAP for a year because of it. and I need to use it
