Instead of cutting a slit for breathing, I punched three holes with a hole punch. This leaves the tape more strength against yielding to mouth opening.
THIS is going to be a game changer for me! I literally told my son yesterday, ‘If I could just tape my mouth shut at night it would be perfect!’ I’m only on week 3 as a cpap user so I’m still learning. Thank you so very much for the information. My tape from Amazon is on its way. 💗
This tape has made a world of difference for me. I tried your recommend mouth guard and could not get it to hold upper and lower to keep my mouth shut. Then, I tried somnifix and they were not sticky enough so my drool, sexy right, would pop them off in the middle of the night. I thought I was going to be stuck with a chin strap for the rest of my life because the Swift FX nasal pillows were the only mask I really could get comfy in. But, this video and this tape fixed my problems. I am back to scoring 100s on myAir every night with minimal leak. I stopped cutting the slit in the tape like you recommend because it was letting me mouth leak a little at times, noticed increased leak on the morning report and a dry mouth, but I kept the dog ear so if the power goes out, I can remove it easily. Also, the Swift FX is super easy to tear off in a panic.
Jason, THANK YOU for all of the information and advice you provide. I started on a AirSense 10 about 9 months ago with an F20 mask and experienced what I consider as mediocre results, due partially to mouth leakage. Living in a small town, combined with the impact of Covid, there has been virtually zero support from local CPAP practitioners. Being able to learn from your videos has been instrumental in improving my therapy results, although my AHIs still average 15-20. I just downloaded OSCAR and start collecting data, after which I will set up a review with YOU. I have very low confidence that my local practitioners would be as thorough as you will be.
Switch to a full-face mask. I switched to a full-face mask (AirFit F30) from a nasal mask (AirFit N20). I had to when my pressure was increased and my mouth started opening during the night causing dry mouth. I don't use the CPAP's humidifier. I've tried it, but it's too much bother for too little reward. The full-face mask took care of most of the dry-mouth issue, but my lips were still getting dry inside and out. I'd heard about a product called Xylimelts and decided to give them a try. Turns out they work better than the humidifier!🙂
I have been fighting the Cpap life for past year without success. After 3 sleep tests I have found that I have central sleep apnea. Soon I will be upgraded from my bipap (started with cpap) to a ASV machine. Anyway I just wanted to say that I have watched many RUclips videos about cpap and I find yours to be the most informative, knowledgeable and just plain entertaining. I have several issues that have made my journey difficult. I have a beard which I refuse to shave which of course makes air leaks more probable, I am a mouth breather but to claustrophobic to wear a full face mask (or hybrid) and I seem to be allergic to silicone and fabric as it makes my face itch. Thanks to you I finally narrowed my mask choice down to the minimally invasive, Brevida nasal pillow and am now going to dump my itchy chin strap and try the tape you suggest here. Thanks Jason! PS I plan to start ordering your cleaning solution or make a donation to give back.
i'd like to know how this tape works with your beard lol jason has a video saying people with beards may have problems and using Fixodent can work but has some cons. and it's funny i'm considering trying the brevida or bleep
Yes, mouth taping has been pivotal for me. The moment I started doing it my cpap results changed for very much the better. Achieving consistent under 5 is now usual. I hope like others here that I can teach myself to sleep with mouth closed. I hope those of you that might benefit from mouth taping do try it…
I've been using this tape for over a week. It works really well, better than other tapes I've tried. I've also tried a neck brace. Too cumbersome. However, I don't cut an opening in the tape. In a power outrage I wake up and remove the mask. No choking. Thanks. As usual, very helpful advice.
I'm fortunate enough to have found you during my month of waiting for test results and insurance pre-auth, so after watching 50+ of your videos I've avoided so many of these pitfalls that I would have been frustrated with. Thanks again for your good videos, and yes I bought mask bright before I even had a machine!
You may also want to check out getting a SoClean 2 for disinfection. They're kinda spendy (about $300) but worth having a germ free mask and tubing every day. Jason isn't too big of a fan, but I like mine. I wipe out my mask daily before putting it in to get any stuff out of it and remove any oils off the silicone which helps to prevent breakdown of the material.
Jason, Cover Roll Tape works good with a nasal pillow mask. Regardless, I still have leaks and sometimes congestion. So, I switch back to my F30 FF with a small piece of Cover Roll Tape. Works like a charm to get a great night sleep!!! Mouth breathing is not an option for me, since reading James Nestor's breath book.
I tried the Cover Roll tape after I woke up in the early am. In 2 hours it reduced my index from 9 down to 5 ! It works . Tonight I’ll put tape on for the full night. Thanks for the tip! I enjoy your videos as they are uplifting and humorous .🇨🇦😆
Thanks for the information. I've been using 1" micropore tape for about two years. But two months ago I started wearing an oral appliance for TMJ treatment. The appliance I wear at night keeps my jaw somewhat open. Even though I can still close my lips I am now getting leaks when my jaw relaxes during the night. I'm going to give this tape I try. Thanks.
Jumped over here from your much more recent V-Com video and now bought the Cover-Roll tape via your link! Thanks! Recently found your channel and subscribed!
#1 I have a battery back-up on line every night. So if the power goes out MEH. I used mouth tape for about 6 months to teach myself to sleep with my mouth closed. So in the end I , a bearded man, went from a full face mask with huge air leaks to wearing P30N nasal pillows mask with no leaks. And I don't have to tape up any more.
Im not sure this is something you can "train" because its the pressure from the cpap that actually blows the mouth open. So unless you can "train" yourself to clench your jaw all night long to keep your mouth shut, I dont see how this would work
I enjoyed watching your video and have ordered this tape. I was told by the sleep technician that I need a full face mask, but I just can't tolerate wearing one. It probably doesn't help that I'm claustrophic. I tried wearing a chin strap. Forget that! I think it kept me awake all night. So now I'm going to try the tape and if that doesn't work, I think I'm giving up on the cpap. I have gone along for many years getting tested for sleep apnea and was always made to feel like I'm some kind of oddball that I can't tolerate using a cpap machine, when in reality I'm betting that most people give up on using it. One more thing to try, the tape, and I'll see if it works for me or not. I'm glad I found your video so that at least I have this one thing to try yet.
Wow, this Cover Roll tape is amazing. I had previously been using SomniFix strips and Nexcare Sensitive Skin tape to tape my mouth, but I would still get large leaks, while using nasal masks (I tried 3 different nasal masks to make sure if wasnt just the mask fit causing the leaks). As soon as I started using the Cover Roll tape, my large leak rates have dropped significantly! Im kind of surprised that the Cover Roll tape alone made the difference. Thanks for this tip!
Jason, cover roll stretch tape seems like a good solution for many. But I have a moustache and beard; will it work for me? I use the DreamWear under-nose cushion CPAP mask and have good mask seal, but I must be opening my mouth because I have bad dry mouth despite using xylimelt mints. What can guys like me with facial hair do to address mouth leaks and dry mouth with CPAP?
When my father first got CPAP, I'd hear noise from his room and found air whistling out of his mouth. I read up on it and we used two vertical strips, on either side of the center, to hold his mouth shut until he got a full face mask. The smaller amount of tape made it so he could always open his jaw and pull the tape loose if he needed to. Also, anyone who takes tranquilizers or other medication that really knocks you out shouldn't ever tape their mouths, for the reason you showed. Thanks, as always, for the tips!
Thanks for your video. I am a male with beard and mustache and use the full face mask. I have tried other taping remedies but found them unsatisfactory because because the tape attached to the lower jaw becomes unstuck. I will try your recommended product because it is wider than anything i have tried. When you make the slit, I suggest you make it large enough to accommodate a straw for taking in water. When I get up for my middle of night pee break, I take in some water to address dry throat. I am looking for a circular hole punch so I could insert a straw.
I just recently started using the Bleep Dreamport. It worked well for most of the night but would start to leak in the morning. The tape would start to loosen because of oily skin. I use this tape for my mouth and around the Dreamport, too. Works perfectly. No more issues.
Good video and mouth leak is a big problem for me. . If you haven't had Jason analyze your CPAP data, I highly recommend it. It was the best help that I have received.
My preferred tape is 3m micropore tape. It's not sticky enough that I can't just open my jaw and break the seal, but it's sticky enough that it holds my lips shut. Only downside is it does leave a slight residue so I have to wash my face well in the morning or my lips feel tacky
I use the same tape. I put chap stick on my lips and before placing the tape on my mouth I put it on the back of my hand and peel it off then on my mouth, no more residue.
Actually, I'm kind of surprised a face mask manufacturer doesn't offer a mask where the face bubble's in 2 sections: one for nose and the other for mouth, with a way to seal off mouth bubble so that even if sleeper drops his jaw, the face mask will prevent air from escaping it. A face mask is far easier to remove than mouth tape (I've tried mouth tape but it was a real pain when I needed to cough or clear throat).
There are patents describing exactly your proposal (think it was ResMed). Why it’s not ever productized i don’t have a clue. I would be the first to buy and test it .
I started taping after seeing a video of you doing it a while back I use some medical tape my wife gets me as she is a nurse. I tape every night, but I might try yours, looks less sticky than the one I use.. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the videos, Jason. Taping fixed the huge leak but I don't cut a slit in it... I bought a small alarm that goes off when the power does so I'll wake up, get up, and plug into a battery before sleeping the rest of the night.
A followup to my earlier comment Jason. This new tape works great for me and I didn’t have to lose my mustache. I could not get away with any hole in the tape. The dog ear works great. Yes, it is sticky, but that is what I need and it does come off cleanly leaving my lips intact. At least as long as I am patient and don’t try to pull it off too fast. A week now of no leaks and no more chinstrap. Thanks for the tip! First time in three years with no leaks.
I’ve had similar experiences with tape Jason but I ordered some of this to give it a try. My mustache may have to go. Agree with everything you said and you have helped me for almost three years. My doctor was blown away when I knew more than she did. AND I saved the day with my Oscar data when my lame DME dripped the ball on her. Thank you. Really LOVE the Mask Bright too.
I bought this tape and did exactly what you suggested. Between this tape, the Bleep Dreamport solution, learning so much through your PAP therapy analysis session and checking my Oscar data weekly, I am finally getting a good night's sleep with no leaking. You rock! Thank you! 🥰
The urge to open your mouth is way beyond any tape I do not know how people can do this so claustrophobic and suffocating, even more then a full mask which I have finally gotten use to. Starting someone new on CPAP with nose pillows and or cushions are doing a disservice And is ultimately detrimental to the compliance and success of their treatment. This comment is a side note to the content of this video and is of topic just an observation. Thanks for your many videos you’ve helped me be successful with CPAP and it is greatly appreciated.
I really appreciate you sharing your opinion. In general...I would really disagree though. Fewer problems are faced with nasal and nasal pillow interfaces. They're generally more comfortable and easier to fit and keep leak free. That said, everyone is going to have their own experience with the interface (mask) with a differing set of needs. What I and 30 other people like ultimately doesn't matter in terms of what you like and what works for you. Though I appreciate the feeling behind your post, I would amend it to: starting someone new to CPAP without letting them sample a variety of masks and educating them as to the potential pros and cons of each mask is doing a disservice.
I was never sure if I had mouth leaking or not? I normaly don't wake up in the night BUT my mouth is very dry in the morning! Gonna try your method. Thank you!
Thanks and greetings from Sydney Australia - month 2 of my cpap journey and still struggling to find a comfortable mask now trying a nasal pillow will tape my mouth as per your instructions in the video
I use 3M Nexcare tape, two strips partially overlapped of 1.5". wash my face with soap, wait, clean it with isopropyl, use a fan to dry it and try to avoid breathing.... That works well for me, plus poligrip on the lips. I fold tabs over. It took all of this to finally get me compliant, and it took a while to tweak these things to work just right. Also switched to the P10 mask from Resmed, I use a cut in half 1" Nexcare piece of tape to hold the pillows up onto my nose better, be sure not to cover the vents, I use breatheright nose strips. After a couple years I finally haven't woken up due to a mouth leak for a couple months.
@@carenilene I wouldn't say it moved out of place, but it tended not to seal because of it. It would tilt down due to the weight of the hose on it without taping the pillows up to my nose.
last night and today I used the commercial strips and I lost my pressure through the safety hole .Woke up and my SPo2 was 88. But if I make my own it does not happen. Cover Roll is best.
Great content, most helpful pap creator on here. I’ve noticed that some cover roll tape is great, and some causes sores or redness. The roll that’s wider with a split in the middle is the best, everything else sucks. Thanks for the content!
I have the same lip cold sore at the same location....makes taking off the tape with extra effort. I've been using 3M 3" micropore....which worked really well due to the surface area covered, but...I drool and when it gets wet can create a channel to let leaky air get through. I've also tried the Cervical collar/ Knightsbride cap, and last night tried Sominix tape. I still get leaks around the 40L/min.....I will try this tape though as the quest is to get it down to below the 24L/min. level for the night. I tried a FFM twice and really didn't like it, but this is before the F30i came out...that's my last stand face mask. Otherwise...I enjoy this channel and it's helped in dealing with my CPAP questions...issues. Keep up the good work!
I use a nasal mask. I drool and the tapes came loose. The Johnson and Johnson water block tough strips Band-Aids have worked the best for me. It comes in a pack of 20 and I use them over my mouth horizontally. One slightly above the lip extending beyond the mouth each side and the other overlapping the 1st bandaid to below the low lip. They hold really well. I also use this soft fabric chinstrap which is handmade. sleepapneasolutionsinc.com/?page_id=2. I tried mouth guards, five or 6 chin straps, like the Knightsbridge , ruby chinstrap, etc. I like this one. So far I have no skin irritation in the morning I have to pull the bandaids off but it doesn’t hurt. My skin is sensitive. I will also try the tape that he mentions. I would see if just the tape alone works. if you add the chinstrap Try it under or over your existing mask. I found it worked better one way or the other depending on what nasal mask I was using.
Jason, great advice! Thanks! Just shifted over to ResMed 10 VAuto after ditching my foamy Dreamstation (after 18 months). Using a nasal mask, I was having seal and dry mouth issues. Taking your advice, I ordered the Cover-Roll stretch and started using it as you demonstrated. After a week, MyAir recorded a score of 100 and a 0 AHI last night! And no dry mouth! Starting with an AHI of 55.2 on my sleep study, I am over the moon! Thanks for your sound advice and suggestions! Even got my MaskBright!
THANK YOU for this suggestion Jason. I tried the Cover Roll tape which works well to stick lips together, but don't like the fact that it's permeable and lets a little air in and out. I like to sleep on my back and still get a dry mouth with this tape in place because it stretches enough to let my lips separate slightly, even with a soft cervical collar, and thus allows that little bit of airflow through it, which adds up over the night. So I reverted to the one method that seems to work for me - put lips together, cover acroos mouth with a piece of one and a half inch wide athletic tape (Walgreen's...cheap) and then wrap a length of inch and a half wide self adhesive stretch bandage (like the stuff they put on after you have blood drawn - it's cheap online also) over the athletic tape and lapped a couple of inches in back of the neck to secure it, which keeps the non-breathable athletic tape in place all night.
I cant believe how messed up the human body is that so many of us need machine to sleep and have to tape our mouths shut for that to work etc... such a messed up thing the human body, definitely Not the work of a so-called supreme being.
I bought some as well! Also just got a pulse ox ring and I am finding some interesting O2 drops that I can match up with sleepy head tracings. Only thing left would be a consumer grade eeg!! All thx to you Leaky. Gathering data then planning to do a consult.
I have learned more from your videos that any RT. I am making the switch, or trying to, to a nasal pillow. I ordered a Fisher and P Brevada and I'm thinking about a mouth guard. Any product suggestions? I liked the one in your 2012 video. Thanks for all your help!
One time while wearing a nasal mask, I opened my mouth and breathed in my mouth. Instantly, I felt my tissues in my throat collapse in on itself, waking me up instantly! Even though I wear a full face mask, I still try to consciously breathe in and out my nose.
I’m here to learn! I’m a mouth breather and I started on Cpap with a full face mask. I HATED the way the pressure blew my mouth open and made my mouth so dry. Plan B, tape my mouth and try a nasal mask. Here’s hoping 🤞🏼
you could also tape your mouth shut and still use the full face mask. I see one potential problem with the nose mask being what if the Co2 blower got blocked for some reason? Full face masks dont have that problem
Years ago, I tried “breathe right” nasal strips. the concept actually worked as advertised, but after a week or so of removing, it just became too painful to apply it and take it off, daily. I wonder what’s the experience here with this tape? I’ve experimented with “paper tape” and another, with good results for only a couple nights and it is great to be rid of the chin strap. Certainly appreciate any comments. Thanks.
I have a full -full face beard and for me taping doesn't work. What does work is a stretchy soft hair holder women use to hold their hair up. It's about 2" wide x 18" with velcro on end. Another thing I am going to try is another person cuts the top of women's nylons and uses this to hold their lips close and you don't have to pain of ripping the tape off.
It’s been another month, I stopped cutting the slit because I started breathing through the slit. I taped it with no slit, worked up until I started drooling around the adhesive and I am trying to breathe through my mouth with the tape over it! I even started putting 2-layers of the cover roll stretch on, and I am still drooling the tape off. I think I need BOTH a chinstrap and Cover roll stretch with NO SLIT. Jeepers Creepers, this CPAP stuff is difficult.
I used gorilla duct tape for awhile but I stopped using it due to the adhesive used on the tape. I can't believe it does not effect my health in someway .
As I said, I have facial hair and some nights the cover roll stretch tape adheres for the night when I use the DreamWear under-nose cushion CPAP mask and sometimes it doesn't. So I sometimes use the full face mask but I still prefer the under nose cushion. I have heard about Hostage Tape but I have seen posts that say it is too expensive, and 3M Micropore tape works for guys with facial hair. Is that a paper or fabric tape, and do you have any experience with that vs. cover roll stretch tape? Also, what about Kinesiology tape? That appears to be a fabric material, and must adhere well if it stays on for sweaty athletes. Would you recommend that over the cover roll stretch tape or 3M Micropore tape? Maybe it is too sticky and will pull out my facial hair. Please let me know your experience with these other options, and what might work best with facial hair. Thanks.
Ok so no more making a slit in the tape like you said in another video chat correct? Now I need to get a nose mask and try that out too. So far I have only used the full mask. Which one do you like better? It CPAP shit is all new to me so I'm trying to learn as much as possible about it.
I really like Cover Role Tape. It's big and covers more area and is easy to handle. I tried the sponsored mouth strips but I drooled and leaked out of one side....long narrow lips.
If you are having a lot of mouth leaks, would you feel worse in the morning? Could you possibly feel worse than with no mask (if you are mouth leaking)? If for some reason you cannot get used to taping and the nasal mask is causing you leaks, which full face mask would you recommend? Would you recommend the Mirage Quattro full face mask, by ResMed?
I cut a piece about 2” long, cut it into 4 strips. Then put one vertically along each side of my nose beginning just above the lips and going over the chin. When removing, use hand sanitizer to loosen the glue.
Thank you so much! Loved the video. Started mouth tape a few months ago. What a game changer for me. Using Micropore tape now. Definently going to try this. Curious which tape do you like better? Thanks for all your great videos. They have helped me big time.
I'm a new CPAPer and I have this problem. My mouth fills with air so much that my cheeks inflate like a balloon and the air has to release. It's annoying and keeps me from getting to sleep as quickly as I did before CPAP. In the past, I would fall asleep in seconds after after head hits the pillow, now I'm miserable because I lay awake dealing with the air pressure building up in my mouth. And I wake up in the middle of the night with the driest mouth I've ever experienced. Aside from being uncomfortable, a dry mouth can cause major dental and gum issues. I'll try taping to see if that helps.
I'm late to the party as usual! I just got a ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto bipap and was using a Dreamware nasal pillow. I was having approx 17+ leaks per night, 40+ incidents and AHI around 42, so I started using a chin strap and tape. I was still having about the same numbers with these measures. I then switched to a ResMed AirFit F30i full face mask. The first night it was very clear after about 10 minutes in that the medium headgear was too big! I got up and changed to the small headgear with a small mask and still had problems. I had mask "farting" a few times that night. I was miserable!!! Full face mask, chin strap and tape and still bad numbers. Ugh. Because of this I went back to the nasal pillow mask and tape and I'm still having issues. I have a call into my doctor next week. I wonder what the next step could be? Sleep study? I sometimes take hours to fall asleep and I have trouble getting up in the morning. You'd think I'd be dragging all day and would be exhausted by bed time. Nope. And the cycle continues. Desperately sleep deprived.
*On your Amazon link...there are two types of rolls to choose from. One more expensive than the other. One's $39.00 bucks and the other is like $11.00? The more expensive one is labeled "Newer Version" and the other is simply "Polyester". Which one do you have in your video? Anyone else have any insight to this difference in cost and material? They're both a 2-roll pack, and seem to be the same measurements and lengths, too. So which is in the video? Again, anyone else can chime in. thanks!😊*
Leaking still takes place (avg. 20L/m) to me though it is better than it was before (avg. 35L/m). With the hole, it puffs my mouth and leaks from the hole, without the hole, it seems dangerous in case I do need to breathe through mouth. Any suggestions please, Jason?
On day five w my crap and nose mask. I need the tape as wake myself up gulping for air probably because my nose is congested most of the time … will try it. I’m still resistant to this whole thing. Nose hurts in the night and wake up with headache … that I never had before cpap… 😢
I wear a full face mask (amara view), and often wake up with my mouth open. Sometimes the mask is partially in my mouth. When this happens, my mouth is very dry. I sometimes wear a chin strap which helps until it gets stretched out. I am tempted to try this tape. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
I tried the mouth-tape last night. I woke up because of air filling up in my cheeks and making me uncomfortable. Then, I removed the tape and went back to sleep. Btw, my AHI is is just hypopneas all over the place with very few CAs and OAs thrown in. Do you have a video that talks about hypopneas being the major part of AHI and what that means?
Thank you so much for your work. I do tape with the Bleep, (3M Micropore S Surgical Tape, 2770-2, 2 inch x 5.5 yard (2.5 cm x 5 m), 6 Rolls/Box) but I still wake up burping and the other end making it's noises and my stomach is hugely bloated. I noted that you said your pressure is 8 or 9 so I'm wondering if my pressure is too high. My scores are good as you said on another video, but I wake up with the problems above plus a brain busting headache and feeling like a cow has sat on my chest which makes me wonder if I am having to breathe too hard or against a pressure that could be too high? Does any of this sound like it's possible? At the moment, I am down to upper pressure of 10 and lower of 7. Many thanks!
I got the tape and used it last night. Put it on and forgot to tell Alexa to turn off light. Lol. Took off slightly to talk. I tend to cough a few times after putting mask on. It’s going to take time using but I show I had .7 apnea’s an hour last night. Normally around 2 an hour. Which would tell me, the machine can’t tell when your opening your mouth. I know it tells if there are leaks but I never have them. I always wondered about that. Doctor never answers questions regarding mouth leaks. I did come across an older video you made about the silicon mouth piece. Can you tell me which one is better?
I'm on day 3 of that tape. On my baby-butt smooth face, it sticks incredibly well, almost too well. So tonight I'm chap sticking my lips and the margins my mouth in hopes to not remove flesh. In a power outage I'm going to hopefully remember to pull my nose mask off. 🙊
This looks to be a great solution, Jason. One important question: will this tape work on someone with facial hair, such as closely trimmed mustache & beard? I'd appreciate an answer.
Longer facial hair is definitely more of a challenge. Check out my video on fixodent/polygrip either alone or with the use of a double sided moldable mouthguard for my bearded friends.
@@Freecpapadvice Thanks for your quick reply, Jason. I ended up going the simple(r) route: based on your reviews (among others) I just switched to the AirTouch F20. (Actually, my ME supply company was out of stock for the Air Touch, so they provided me with the AirFit for my first cushion with a promise to have the AirTouch version for my next two cushions in the 90-day supply.) This is my first full-face mask, and that switch alone has taken care of the mouth-leak problem … though only when I'm sleeping. (In other words, I could stand a solution for my mouth leaking *words* when I talk to people. Ha!) Be well, LL27.
@@Freecpapadvice Don't keep your hemorrhoid cream with your fixident/pollygrip. I accidentally was in a hurry and got them mixed up. That stuff is nasty.
Amazing video, super helpful! The way you cut the tape is the best way by far, I’ve tried many other variations but have had the most success with your method. Tape works wonders too. My only issue is that my cheeks balloon and fill up with air when I let my jaw fully relax or when I fall asleep.. even when I purse my lips tightly and apply the tape strategically.. any advice on how to deal with this? Thank you so much in advance!!
Yes, double sided boil and bite mouth guard (real cheap one from Amazon), Soft Cervical collar, or a chinstrap. (chinstraps kind of suck....but the Ruby is the best if you go that route) Try the first two first. Check my Amazon store link in the description box for all the links to those products.
I have a problem with mouth breathing. My doctor told me not to tape mouth. I do anyway because if I don’t it doesn’t work. My problem now is that my my mask is causing permanent dents in my face and ends up in my eyes. It’s the only mask that works for me but hurts my eyes. I think it’s a resmed f10 nasal mask.
Great video. First time comment for me but long time watcher. Wonderful content. I have been using a full face mask since i began therapy and now think I am ready to try a nasal pillow as I recently had septoplasty and can now breathe much better through my nose. I am sure ill need to tape my mouth shut but my 95% value is usually around 5-6 so i doesn't seem like I require a ton of pressure to keep my airway open. Lastly, I am using a Resvent iBreeze and was wondering if you know of a way that I can analyze my data. Doesn't seem like my machine is supported in OSCAR. Thx
My doc put me on a full face mask cos of mouth leak using the nasal . Could I go back to nasal & use the tape ? I hate the full face mask as is as it leaves me with permanent face creases.
Yikes! I just saw on amazon, that this product has the warning label..Prop 65. Not sure what to think it being so near to my mouth during sleep. Any thoughts on this? Or is this just boiler print warning from the lawyers?
I was reading not to use mouth tape with cpap because if the power goes out and you can breathe you could go in a coma or not wake up THEN i stumbled upon your video so thank youu🎉🎉🎉
I'm a new CPAP user (day 3) and I can't thank you enough for this information!
People usually find this channel after falling INTO the pitfalls! Glad you found us (me) and thank you for watching.
I taped my mouth shut and managed to “train” myself to keep my mouth closed when I sleep. No more mouth leaks, no more taping!
Wish I knew how to do that!
Im not sure this is something you can "train" because its the pressure from the cpap that actually blows the mouth open. So unless you can "train" yourself to clench your jaw all night long to keep your mouth shut, I dont see how this would work
Any tips on training yourself to keep it shut?
I love the Cover Role tape. \ It is an affordable alternative to Somnifix strips.
Have you ever heard of KT tape..its more of a fabric tape for athletic use. It sticks to the skin and can be removed easily not leaving marks
Thanks!
Dang! Thanks for the loot. I appreciate it! 😄
I purchased the tape you showed. Thank you! Very cheap. $11.99 for two boxes. Not bad. And it’s comfy too
I just recently started using the Bleep Dreamport. It worked well for most of the night but would start to leak in the morning. The tape would start to loosen because of oily skin. I use this tape for my mouth and around the Dreamport, too. Works perfectly. No more issues.
OMG ANSWERED EVERYTHING I WANTED TO KNOW❤❤thank you
Good video and mouth leak is a big problem for me. . If you haven't had Jason analyze your CPAP data, I highly recommend it. It was the best help that I have received.
Thank you Jeff! I appreciate you saying that.
I use the cover roll tape and it's about 90% effective. I usually blow some air through the sides because it won't secure tightly enough
You rock! Thank you! 🥰
You are very welcome! 😄
I tried it with painters tape and it seems to work great!
Thank you!
Let me know how it goes!
@@Freecpapadvice Been using tape for over a week now and I have zero leackage. Thanks again, works like a charm :)
Before you used tape on your nose pillow did you experience your pillow moving out of place on your face?
Trying this ASAP. Love your videos with the down to earth advice you provide. Thanks very much Jason.
Very welcome. I appreciate you watching!
Same lip cold sore?!? Huh?
Jason, great advice! Thanks! Just shifted over to ResMed 10 VAuto after ditching my foamy Dreamstation (after 18 months). Using a nasal mask, I was having seal and dry mouth issues. Taking your advice, I ordered the Cover-Roll stretch and started using it as you demonstrated. After a week, MyAir recorded a score of 100 and a 0 AHI last night! And no dry mouth! Starting with an AHI of 55.2 on my sleep study, I am over the moon! Thanks for your sound advice and suggestions! Even got my MaskBright!
😄 Congratulations! That's great to hear.
This comment is Leaky approved.
Really helpful. Thank you
I’m here to learn! I’m a mouth breather and I started on Cpap with a full face mask. I HATED the way the pressure blew my mouth open and made my mouth so dry. Plan B, tape my mouth and try a nasal mask. Here’s hoping 🤞🏼
How did you like it
you could also tape your mouth shut and still use the full face mask.
Thanks.
This tape can be removed easily if you put a little hand sanitizer on to loosen the glue.
Yes, been taping but don’t always need it. No Cpap any longer either
I get my CPAP on Tuesday. I must try this.
I tried it and it works. Will always shut my big stupid mouth before I sleep. 😂
Very useful tip thank you
If you are having a lot of mouth leaks, would you feel worse in the morning? Could you possibly feel worse than with no mask (if you are mouth leaking)? If for some reason you cannot get used to taping and the nasal mask is causing you leaks, which full face mask would you recommend? Would you recommend the Mirage Quattro full face mask, by ResMed?
I cut a piece about 2” long, cut it into 4 strips. Then put one vertically along each side of my nose beginning just above the lips and going over the chin. When removing, use hand sanitizer to loosen the glue.
It's a good point that the tape can leak a little bit and still be effective.
Thank you so much! Loved the video. Started mouth tape a few months ago. What a game changer for me. Using Micropore tape now. Definently going to try this. Curious which tape do you like better? Thanks for all your great videos. They have helped me big time.
I like cover roll better. It's stickier more flexible.
@@Freecpapadvice Is it non toxic? Thanks 🙏
I’ve done both and like the cover roll better.
Thanks 🙏🏽 for your informative presentations
*On your Amazon link...there are two types of rolls to choose from. One more expensive than the other. One's $39.00 bucks and the other is like $11.00? The more expensive one is labeled "Newer Version" and the other is simply "Polyester". Which one do you have in your video? Anyone else have any insight to this difference in cost and material? They're both a 2-roll pack, and seem to be the same measurements and lengths, too. So which is in the video? Again, anyone else can chime in. thanks!😊*
Can I use this to tape the nasal pillow mask to my face to help prevent mask leak?
Used the Amazon link to buy some cover-roll, thanks
Awesome, thank you!
Hi Lefty, i use a Dreamstation machine and use the C Flex at 3, it really helps ..... do you think i need a Bi level machine?
I use a wide medical tape and fold over the edge for removal. So how does that slit affect your leak data???
Doesn't seems to effect it at all.
The strip of duck tape I can understand but is the ball gag really necessary?
🤣 Big Tex!!!!
I have a mustache and beard will the tape work
Hypafix tape is the answer! Works so good for me!
What about men with beards / mustaches?
Hmm, I wonder if I could use this to keep my moustache from letting air leak out of the bottom of my N20.
I keep mine really short and it works
Thanks for this information!
What if your Co2 blower gets blocked and your mouth is taped shut, even partially, wouldnt that cause any problems?
Amazing video, super helpful! The way you cut the tape is the best way by far, I’ve tried many other variations but have had the most success with your method. Tape works wonders too. My only issue is that my cheeks balloon and fill up with air when I let my jaw fully relax or when I fall asleep.. even when I purse my lips tightly and apply the tape strategically.. any advice on how to deal with this? Thank you so much in advance!!
Did you find a solution for this. I have the same issue
I´ll try this too
New to cpap, what do u mean by "20cm of water" when referencing mouth leak sound? Thanks
Seems making a slit you'd still mouth breath somewhat. I was taped last night with no slit and had terrible dry mouth thru out the night upon waking
Great video! Guessing it doesn’t work for bearded guys?
I haven't tried to grow mine long enough to call it a beard. Works with "hella" thick stubble though.
I have a full mask 😷 and my moufs leaks any advice
Thx
They have their own program called iMatrix. It's pretty rough, but will show you data similar to that of OSCAR....just not very user friendly.
My doc put me on a full face mask cos of mouth leak using the nasal . Could I go back to nasal & use the tape ? I hate the full face mask as is as it leaves me with permanent face creases.
I have a mustache and beard, any ideas on what to do to keep my mouth shut?
Will this tape stick to facial hair ?
