To celebrate what would have been Bob Barker's 100th birthday, the channel is also featuring episodes from the debut season of The "New" Price Is Right in 1972.

The current version is a lot more "high stakes".

Well, that's two games they've retired with Gene Wood on tow: On The Nose and this one and the good thing is that both final games generated winners, a fantastic way to retire them to oblivion.
But then it was brought back under a completely different style.
Balance Game did revived in 2006 with its rival with a different look and similar gameplay than this original one.
I wouldn't exactly say it was similar. Instead of using the value of prizes to balance it now it's a choice of bags relating to the grand prize.

Correct, same title but different rules: like Bullseye and Time is Money but unlike Pick a Pair when it was refurbished
Basically, Bob (now Drew Carey) will pick the less heavy money bag to the left scale, then the contestant will need to pick up the other two out of the available three, and when a modeller puts the big bag which contains the prize to the right scale, the whole studio will wait to see if the scale is balanced or not just to add some excitement in

So glad they retired this version of balance game and brought it back with a new version that had a much easier understanding of how to win
The modern Balance Game, which came about two decades later, is way better, and didn't require Bob walking people through over half the time. This would have been better if it were more like a small prize version of Swap Meet (which came in the early 90s). As clunky as it was to watch, at least it went out on a high note!
It's much easier to play and understand now. The problem with B.G. I was the complication and the times when a contestant was left in a no-win situation but they had to play it out.
How many people name their kids after a month of the year, although many women have the name June (i.e. June Carter-Cash).

Great game December
Why did they retire this pricing game? It was far better than the Balance Game which they have now with Drew Carey.
Because Bob had to keep walking people through, and oftentimes you'd know if the contestant lost before the game concluded. It did not make for a fun watch much of the time.
The modern Balance Game is cartoony, sure, but it's a lot less clunky for viewers and contestants.
Silvia , The group Depeche Mode had a deal to have they're music to the song Get The Balance Right played & Mr.Barker said no & so to avoid legal problems the game was simply retired.
Now he's making up fake stories... Of course, no one ever believes a single word David says.
