The thing with TPiR is unlike with WoF, their inspiration for adding the big wheel in ’75 (as the latter, only premiering in January of that year, was proving very popular) they pretty much have to show all of every spin as proof of who won both SCSDs for each half of every episode. WoF, on the other hand can get away with edits (usually spotted nowadays by a jump cut omitting a final spin that hit BANKRUPT or LOSE-A-TURN) of final spins to leave out ones that land on BANKRUPT and/or LOSE-A-TURN in the interest of time, as those, unlike all but very few spins of the TPiR wheel (the ones that don’t make one full rotation and thus, do not count) are not important and have no effect on the outcome of the show, unlike with TPiR and the SCSD.
My brother was on The PisR in 1999. Tied 3 times with another girl before finally winning. Also won the showcase showdown. Funnest day of my life, as we were in the audience.

It's terrible math they each spin twice it's even higher than 1/8000 but it on what you're looking at chance of a tie 3 times or the chances of all the spins they both did
If you watch carefully the second guy spins with the exact same power every time and he has the power to spin it exactly two times around, landing him on the number that the player before him just rolled. So this isn't just a random occurrence.
The odds of three ties in a row happening are 1 in 8,000. There are 20 different amounts between 5 cents and $1.00, so it would be 20 times 20 times 20. So yeah, it is pretty rare.
If we're being fair, this isn't a 100% luck based situation. It is dependent on the second guy's strength of his roll to equal *exactly* the spin needed to end on a full rotation. It's more likely that a single person could tie the roll twice than for two separate people to tie the roll back to back.
I thought the same when they announced drew at the new host. Seems nice enough, but I feel like they could’ve gotten someone a little more charismatic.
“Big wheels keep on turning” - CCR “I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round” - John Lennon “I’m watching the big wheel, yo ho ho” - Icehouse
Drew Carey is good on this show, but you people are right, he can't beat Bob Barker, I remember watching this when Bob Barker was on there & he was great, I watched his last show as a full time host, & I remember thinking "Who could they possibly get to replace him?"
And the audience has gone home; Drew's in a cot snoring, the two spinners look like death warmed over DARK CIRCLES UNDER THEIR EYES, hardly any strength left to spin the wheel. They are crying and begging to stop and get some sleep, or some water, but a producer is next to them with a whip, "SPIN THAT WHEEL YOU BASTARDS!"
I think the most amazing spin off I recall seeing was when Bob Barker was the host, and 2 of the contestants got to 1 dollar, then both hit the dollar for even more money (I think it was $10k), then they tied a 3rd time.
That was amazing! Jesse spins first. Then Daniel, then Beat. But Daniel got a 95, and Beat tied it with an 80 + 15 = 95! And then, whatever Daniel spins, Beat spins the same number whatever it is! Daniel gets a 20, and Beat's on his way to the showcase with an 80! Yeah, I wanted Beat to get to the showcase. You know how it happened? With the help of Beat's Navy buddies cheering him on, it might help him.
at the point where they both got a "5"... I was rather hoping that on the next spin.. they'd BOTH get 100 ( I do not think that's happened before in a similar TPIR spin-off .. but I could be wrong! )
I MUST ADMIT: I USED TO WATCH THE PRICE IS RIGHT ON TELEVISION WHEN I WAS A 2-YEAR-OLD MALE TODDLER BACK IN THE YEAR 1997. AND NOW IT'S ON RUclips, I'M BACK, BABY! :-D
The first guy doesn't have a clue. If you are first up and get .60 you should spin again. Yes, odds are 60% that you'll go over, but when you factor in odds that the two opponents going after you will get higher than .60, it is considerably more than the 60% (more like 87.5% odds you'll get beaten).
Though bob had the advantage being their while most of the shows history occurred up to that point, there is something around several thousand to tens of thousands of shows that drew never had seen and might not even be archived in any way.
Pretty Neat Spin-Off. There was a shorter one a few months ago that I had never seen before. Contestant 1 Spun 90 cents and stayed. Contestant 2 Spun 95 cents and stayed. Contestant 3 spun 1 dollar and won. This happened in 3 spins and I do not recall it ever happening before on TPIR
Only thing that would've made this better? If on one or two of these spin battles, they tied on a dollar. Which did happen some time later, as we all know.
You cannot convince me that that prize wheel, nor that on Wheel of Fortune doesn't have a brake on it to stop it where the show's producers want the damn thing to stop.
I could be convinced that there are such brakes on the wheels if there were some compelling evidence or reasoning behind it. Why would the shows want to do that? I would likely not find arguments like "to save money" compelling, because it is sponsors and syndicators that pay for these shows in amounts that are vastly greater than the prizes awarded that the prize sums are a mere pittance in comparison, but if you can think of another such reason, I'm interested.
You're almost exactly right (and the person you replied to was WAY off) but the odds were actually just a tiny bit higher. Without doing the math, the first tie could have been "spin a .95 in one spin, 1/20 odds, OR do it in 2, 1/????" so the initial odds there may have been 1/19.99 or whatever it comes out to. So the ending odds may have been 1/7999 or such instead of the 1/8000. If it'd been only one spin/person for ALL spins, your math would have been exact.
Difference between Barker and Carey... Carey was just sort of like, "wow, that was really back and forth"... Barker would have definitely made note of this and basically stopped the whole show. This was insane.
Drew Carey: the next scheduled program on your CBS station will be rebroadcast after the evening News because The Price is Right lasting another 30 minutes because of this specific showcase showdown.
Just like in baseball ⚾️ basketball 🏀 college football and the main game of match game from 1973-1979 players continue to spin the wheel on the price is right until 1 person scores more than the others
