Thank you Mr Bob Barker for the 50 Wonderful years of being the host of The Price Is Right
Bob was the host of TPIR for 50 years????? Your math is off.
this guy didn't hesitate for a second! LEGEND
i love seeing our millitary members winning big. also a 24,000$ car in 1984 is worth about 70k today. absolutely bananas.
You like seeing white supremest win
If I had been an adult in 1984 and could see the future, I would have rather been a contestant on Dream House.
You would have bought a Sears n Roebuck house for $4,800
We miss you Bob!
That 84 Cadillac is rolling around the hood to this very day.
Now that's awesome! My Grandpa had a Cadilliac nearly identical to that when I was a kid. We'd go on cruises around town, etc. Great memories.
Chuck's Ruling Videos-Five'll get you ten your Grandpa's dead?
I got caught going 80 in a 35 in a sedan Deville Cop said he chased me for miles and told me he couldn't catch up. I was a teenager flying at 3 am traveling back home from my girlfriends. He told me,"Do you know what would happen to your insurance if I issue you a ticket?" I said no sir. He said go home and drive the speed limit 😆 🤣
I miss the 80s,best decade ever, every thing 80s about this episode, the Cadillac,Johnny Olson and the music. These young people today don't have a clue how great it was then.No computers, facebook and cell phones.
I just turned 25 and I wished I experience the 1980s
And there was no Twitter either!!
Well there was not-so-good things also like AIDS and crack though. Like every era the 80s has its dark side too. The intro to the movie Lean on Me is a perfect example of this.
Said Don, making his comment on a computer.
I owned a few computers back in the 80s.
BOB BARKER WAS THE BEST EVER!!!
Fascinating to see how scuffed and worn some of the set pieces are. It’s the kind of thing that wouldn’t have been visible on our old TVs.
At 15:32 - Linda going in for the kiss lol!
😂
And got booed😂😂😂
I now own that exact Cadillac. I paid the same price as the grandfather clock for it.
KING BOB BARKER IS THE ULTIMATE GAME SHOW HOST.
The shows from the 1980s shows why Bob started doing audience entrances. You could see the gold spots on the and of course the Golden Road sign as he was making his entrance. So you knew what game was going to be played first
Those were exciting days. Am I correct to say Drew Carey doesn't do any audience entrances?
@@LeotheTiger1234 Not since the early days no, he doesn't like them. He's done it I think just twice, once near end of his first season, and once as a u-pick special deal.
@@ajk I see.
Bonnie Boucher? That’s what I call high quality bidding.
The Captain will be driving a Slick New Cadillac 👌 !!

🎶 Ride Like The Wind 🎶 !
I won't my 1980s Mtv back.
@@donbest5024 Ditto
Finally, his incredible journey is now available in full! This also happened 38 years ago today, what a coincidence!
But it would be only one month before some ice cream truck driver broke the one-day winnings record for a CBS game show by about three times of John's winnings, on another CBS game show that is.
Which just so happened to be TPiR's leadout show.
@@johnnysama On the May 8, 1984, episode of THE PRICE IS RIGHT 👉🏻, of course.
@@jamesmcclelland1414 Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross played ▶️ over the closing credits courtesy of Warner Brothers Records & Tapes !
@@davidellis5141 You've got it!
That song Ride like the wind was number 2 on the music charts this week back in May 1980.Great times.
This episode aired exactly 38 years ago today on May 8, 1984.
Christopher Cross’s Ride Like The Wind goes great with flashing $39,518 readout.
14:10 LOL Holly 😂😂😂
She's the BEST!
Love to hear some Christopher Cross in the showcase.
A Perfect Golden Road Win!
Love the Christopher Cross during second showcase and the end! ❤️
$39,518 was a lot of money way back then in 1984.
It's not bad today either.
If John had swept the showcases with a difference of up to $99, he coulda had $47,026 in cash & prizes.
Love these episodes.
John makes very quick decisions.
Hello ✋ Becky how are you doing???
Most of the cars offered on this game show were poor quality vehicles. This Cadillac was impressive to be offered as a prize, especially considering average car prices then were between $10-15k. A real gentleman.
You never needed that blonde wig on you anyway, Holly! You're good enough as is!
Years later you knew golden road was coming when bob comes from the audience
I don't ever remember them using an actual published popular song. Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross was in the showcase and there was a pretty good edit on one of the parts. The other one was a little choppy, but I imagine they used a razor blade cut edit. It was really interesting at that time that the highest winner was over $39,000 up to that point in time. Thank you for sharing.
Christopher Cross, legendary.
They did this a LOT way back when, up till at least 1991 I think (they used Madonna songs over the credits each day of the 20th season premiere week). If you only watched after that (which I did admittedly too, being born in 1987), you'd not know of that, but it was very commonplace during this period and before. Celebration by Kool and the Gang was used a couple years earlier to close a 10th anniversary show I believe as another example.
There was one showcase, where they used Ray Parker Jr's "GHOSTBUSTERS" tune.
@@crazycappy01 Yep, I heard it on a recent rerun actually, they played it over the credits.
@@ajk "Who you gonna call?" "GHOSTBUSTERS!!!"

That's almost a $69K Caddy in today's money! And sucks to be that second Showcase person stuck with one of the cheapest Showcases possible...about the only way in the Barker era she could've done worse was to get the dreaded train/tugboat Showcase :P
I'm so glad the car comes with brakes and steering equipment
15:31 Bob Barker felt embarrassed so he refused to be kissed by the captain's wife haha
13:00 Captain Herring is going to "Ride Like The Wind."
Crazy enough that after watching this clip, I added the song to my music library
Stunning showgirls 😍
great video quality
The Lucky Captain didn't have to break a sweat.
Watching the models dance at 2x speed is hilarious!
He certainly is number one at the time, for achieving almost $40,000. And he certainly is number one, overall as a person. Cheers to you, kind sir.

WOW!!! Just WOW!!!
Sounds like they licensed the original track for "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross. I wonder how they managed that!
Those Cadillacs were nice and only $24,000!
Was the golden road not played that much because watched the price right regularly as kid and did not see it for the first time till 1993
Cool!
Wrong episode number. This is actually episode 5322, originally aired May 8, 1984.

23 years later, John would be dethroned on several occasions, especially by Vicky Ann, who won $147,514, including a Dodge Viper. Regardless, he's among the biggest winners in TPIR Daytime history.
best part using christopher cross' ride like the wind heheh

Yep, I noticed that too LOL
So did I!! wow, I think she remembered her husband was right there!
Yeah, I noticed that too!
Wow
Back when a caddy was a great looking caddy.
It’s weird that my Kia has EXACTLY the same accoutrements as the full-option Cadillac! (don’t we wish a Caddy cost only $30,000 these days)
That should've been bells and clangs, at least after Bob announced Biggest Winner -- a graphic might not have hurt either in Post for the occasion.
Herring would not hold the record long, as Diana Brownfield broke the record, and the $40,000 barrier, early the following season.
And i miss holly ❤️
When I saw "biggest winner" I had a suspicion that Golden Road would be involved.
Turned out I was right.
Before the ERA when they added a Million Dollar Bonus on The Guessing Game if you guess the price of both prizes with 10 seconds.

That would put him over the then-hard winnings cap of $50,000 at the time, he would have to donate some of his winnings.

He would only do that if the contestant had won the $ ($1,000) and was resetting it for the Bonus Spin.
At 15:32 her 20th century customs couldnt help herself from trying to kiss Bob Barker. Such a weird thing to do
The average citizen has a hard enough time paying the taxes on items they win on game shows. Especially if they're California residents. On an Army Captain's salary, it would have been very difficult even if he was in Base Housing. He and his wife would have had to discuss what they really wanted to keep, which would have probably been less than half of the prizes.
Half is still better than nothing.
Holly's cute nose is amaze-balls.

I've really and thoroughly HATED IT when the camera is aimed at the contestant's SIGNIFICANT OTHER (boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse) in the AUDIENCE for presumably a reaction shot while the said contestant ON STAGE plays a pricing game on TPIR!!! 😡😡😡🤮🤮🤮
It's especially bad on Barry/Enright game shows pre-Pat Finn and Patrick Wayne.
