That was really sweet at the end of the second showcase that johnny olson mentioned his wife Penny. That was awesome. Rest in peace Johnny and Bob Barker.
Yes! I always loved Johnny Olson. Great voice and delivery, always well dressed and gentlemanly, and a great sense of humor to ham it up with the ladies in the sketch showcases at the end. To me, one of the highlights of the show! His passing the following year was an absolutely monumental loss. And yes, that was so charming for Johnny to pay such tribute to his wife! I knew he was married, and that the "ladies man" character in these skits was "tongue in cheek", but didn't expect his wife to be mentioned / shown.
There’s a chance I saw this episode while sitting beside my grandfather on his old brown floral couch. My 2.5 year old feet didn’t reach the end of the cushions! Amazing core memories I treasure. Thank you TPIR for uploading this fantastic archive!
1. It's a good thing she won 10k in cash. That would have helped her pay the 17k tax bill. So she only would have owed 7k in taxes 2. In today's money her winning would be worth about 120k 3. That 1984 Cadillac she won was absolute dog water. My family owned one and would go about 50k before breaking completely down.
Her record would be shadowed by Denise who won more than $47,000 just by winning Golden Road in January 1986... wonder if there were any record breakers between these two
One month after it, it got shattered again by Pamela, who won $11,000 cash, three trips and a Jaguar. Over $54,000. The Denise incident had happened on January 8 or 23, 1986.
HAH, how I miss Johnny Olson and his appearances in the showcase skits at the end! Always "the ladies' man", and yet, a charming touch with a nod to his wife!!! Great voice, always a good sport, and a real gentleman. I remember when he passed, and it was a sad day. With all due respect those who followed in his position, they were never able to come close to the great Johnny Olson!!
The record breaking winner was awfully chill about accomplishing that feat. If it was me, I'd either be jumping up & down like crazy or blubbering in a pile of goo. & you gotta feel for the other contestant going over by a mere $13; she'd also thought the other lady had gone over instead. She was smiling too soon.
Actually, the Showcase Showdown would be $11,000 total. The first thousand for spinning a dollar the first time, then the $10,000 additional for landing on the dollar in the bonus spin.
He sure will. Johnny olson is greatly missed as well. On October 12 it will be 38 years that Johnny Olson passed away. By the way, that was really sweet that he added his wife’s name at the end of the second showcase.
9:14 it WAS original but they had to make a second one for the contestant. not exactly original anymore. besides who goes on that show just to win clothes?

Yep 👍🏻! Oh, by the way ↕️, Season ⛄’s Greetings!
$41,571 was a lot way back then in 1984, imagine how much it would be now in 2022!
It'd be about $120,466 in today's moneys!
A lot less than in 1984

The Gibson appliances decided to cooperate with Holly on this day.
Awwww....nostalgia...how I miss these good old days with the price is right...thank God for the memories...
Thank God for RUclips as well. By the way, Pluto TV has a Price is right channel with all of the Bob Barker episodes.
12:02 She went WHAT?? LOL
Lol
Oh good lord what an absolutely gorgeous 1983 Toyota 4x4 pickup in this clip. Unbelievable 😮
I always enjoy the background music reminds me when I was little living with mom and dad😊❤
Ouch!! Poor Julie went over by $13 measly bucks!!! PAIN! AGONY!! SUFFERING!!
I always loved hearing Bob say “__________, you’ve become the BIGGEST winner in Price Is Right history!!”
My great aunt Alyce had a crush on Bob Barker. Miss them both. Good people.
11:54 Holy CRAP that could have gone either way! Had Julie just bid like $6700 (or even $6500) she would have stolen away Diana's big day!
Actually, back then it was $99 before it was raised to $250.
Exactly 13 or so dollars off close but not close enough
I used to spend my holidays as a kid in Montreal with my Aunt and her family. I used to watch the Price is Right on CFCF 12.
LOVE the headshots of the models. Janice's is SMOKIN'!!!!

What woman could resist Johnny's smile?
Yes, not that it's the least bit creepy or anything lol
Good evening to only the LOYAL FANS AND TRUE here. Great, historic moment on display today only made possible by a brutal overbid!!!😱
$41,000 dollars now is equivalent to $117,000 dollars !!!
I was kinda hoping she won both at the end, but this was so amazing, so happy for her 🎉
I miss bob
Julie was over by 13 bucks which was heartbreaking but happy for Diana
Especially when Julie thought Diana went over only for her to be the one to go over
For her yes but it’s a valuable lesson not to count your chickens before they hatch. Her gloating face wasnt necessary and I was glad she lost lol
That was a painful reveal being that little over
11:16 Julie was grinning ear to ear after that, bid by the woman in blue. Little did she know, she would overbid by such a small amount.
Hubris!
I remember seeing this episode on its original airing

Biggest winner...also looks like she could be the tallest winner.
Nice audience. Dignity and respect. No one showing up in ripped t shirts amd yoga pants. Unlike today .

who says Elmer Fudd was dead love that hat LOL
I looked at the thumbnail and went whos that goof. Bob always had grey/white hair for as long as I can remember (born in 89)
it seems if you're meant to be lucky - you'll be lucky and all the way
"$40,000 in 1980 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $147,263.59 today" She made an insane amount of cash by just guessing.
Diana looks like the kind of person you would see on a California 70's T.V. show
Diana looks like Roller Derby’s Joan Weston.
Nice!!
I literally just got done watching this episode (actually, I turned it on when the final showcase happened) on TV. 7/8/2024
Holly was the cute model, she had the look of "The Girl Nextdoor".
Kind of curious why no one from the audience joined her on stage after she won.

Same here. Would've been hilarious, though.
I bet she was a good person. It makes a difference.
That’s what the woman gets for being to cocky thinking the other woman overbid….nope …..

I like the build on Diana -- solid muscle. Must have been a swimmer, or something.
