Chuck and Susan taught me to read, add, subtract, and multiply. I'd come home from preschool and watch the show. Three years old! Forget Sesame Street, Wheel of Fortune was the real deal.

This interview is from the Lingo era of Chuck perhaps, which was 20ish years ago now

Oh Chuck. You deserved better but ya had to argue with Merv! (But then that gave us Pat Sajak for 41 years and it worked out for Chuck with Scrabble, Greed and Lingo.) I love his speaking voice.

Lingo's original version was taped in Canada in 1987 and ran 26 weeks. The show aired on a few stations in the US. I don't think Scrabble was the number one game show in daytime, though it did pretty well against Price is Right for its first three years.

      USELESS TRIVIA if you're interested:
Scrabble replaced other failing NBC game shows that tried to compete with CBS' Price is Right between 10 AM and noon depending on where you lived. These included Blockbusters with Bill Cullen from 1980-81, Wink Martindale's Las Vegas Gambit from 1981-82, Alex Trebek's Battlestars and Peter Tomarken's Hit Man from 1982-83 and Dream House with Bob Eubanks from 1983-84. Fun fact: David Letterman openly mocked Las Vegas Gambit when his 10 AM NBC Morning show was cancelled I'm 1980.
Scrabble premiered in July 1984 and then settled in to the 11:30 AM slot against the second half of Price is Right on CBS through Summer 1987
Chuck was thinking about Scrabble's switch to a 12:30 PM Eastern timeslot in the Fall of 1987 (9:30 AM in Los Angeles). Prior to that switch, The Young and the Restless and Wordplay with Tom Kennedy had been on NBC after your local noon newscast. Yeah, Scrabble probably did pretty good in both timeslots.
In 1990 when Scrabble moved to a 10 AM space on NBC's schedule for its final few months, the soap opera "Generations" went to 12:30 PM and barely lasted a year.

In all actuality both Chuck and Susan ( Stafford) both left over a money issue. Funny he talked about that before, but not here.

Two Million Dollars was only attained once, on Super Greed in 2000 between the remaning team of three. Dan Avila went for the Two Millon by himself in 1999 and did not win. $1.98 Beauty Show taped at NBC Burbank, as was Gong Show for most of its 70s run, CHuck W. did do Gong but IIRC didn't no $1.98

I can recall an episode of " Greed" college week, when a " Wheel Of Fortune " question came up and the college boy mentioned after Chuck said he once hosted (Wheel) when the college boy glorified Pat ( Sajak) I wondered as disrespectful ( obnoxious) that the producers let the show go on without stopping tape. But Chuck got even in talking about the ability to remove a wrong answer, but stated this freebie will allow you to remove one contestant ( in reference to the college boy) I'm really surprised that the producers didn't stop tape to either talk or remove that contestant. The college boy actually stated that when Chuck mentioned that he hosted Wheel the college boy said it was before he was born. He really insulted Chuck.

Always respected his talent. He was a
natural. I hated when he became politically loud. It didn’t suit his friendly
Image. That said, one of the best TV hosts ever, and was always better than Sajak.
