Here it comes, television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes the fabulous sixty-minute Price is Right!
We are showcasing episodes not viewed in decades. Starting from Season 11 (1982), this is the first season when animal furs were no longer offered as prizes, supporting Bob’s advocacy of animal rights in memory of his wife Dorothy Jo.
To celebrate what would have been Bob Barker's 100th birthday, the channel is also featuring episodes from the debut season of The "New" Price Is Right in 1972.

I have ALWAYS loved the Price is Right New car music. It was and still is so exiting sounding. And the result of this game is why this is the reason this game was canned.
From the finale of On the Nose which took place on the 11/22/85 episode of The Price is Right. Quite a few games were retired in late 1985.
This was a good game. I wish they still played it. I can see why they retire some games, but this was a good one. They should have kept it.
Well, they still have Hole In One (or Two) which is just as good.
It was a horrible game. It requires athletic ability to play it. Sometimes the sport was darts. NO WAY could someone who wasn't a dart player win. The big problem I have with the Price is Right is that the games are not all equal in their difficulty. Some, like this one, required you to have profiency in a sport to even have a CHANCE at winning. Others were: "Here are two price tags. Pick the one that's the right price of the prize." Super simple.
@@SarahB1863 "Others were: "Here are two price tags. Pick the one that's the right price of the prize." Super simple."
IOW, Double Prices, which, IINM, has lasted on TPIR ever since the show started, and is the show's stopgap when certain other games take too long (because all you have to do is choose the right price; none of this picking car price numbers, or lining up digits in other prices).
@@SarahB1863 You really think every game should be super simple? Watching people lose is always part of the fun! Sorry, but I don't want every single person to win every single game!
“I’ll tell you what she can get the automobile but that guy will never use his left arm again”😆
The poor catcher had all the time to heal after that one.
A little bit of trivia........1985 was the only year of the Aries'/Reliant's redesign that offered the 2.6-liter engine. It would be replaced by the Chrysler-built 2.5 for '86. I have always had a VERY special place in my heart for the Chrysler K-car. Sure, it was NEVER exactly the most beautiful vehicle in the world, but without this car, Chrysler as we know it would most certainly not exist today. Plus, the chassis of this humble little economy car was the basis for almost all of Chrysler's new cars in the 1980's. It spawned sedans, coupes, wagons, sports coupes, luxury cars, convertibles, even limousines. It was also the basis for the first minivan.
I had a Dodge K car one time that was a real lemon. Everytime I got one thing fixed, something else needed repaired.
My mother had a 1979 model at one time and it acted like "crap". It was always stalling, not fuel injected either. Couldn't go on places I wanted to go like Disney's World On Ice and stuff.
1981 was the first year, @@meyerj75.
The one thing that makes The Price is Right so great is seeing ordinary people compete to win ordinary but still valuable and nice prizes. It's 100% positive; there's no reason to be against anyone or anything. When she fired that second ball right through the hole, I literally jumped up and shouted for joy! Even though this happened nearly 40 years ago!
Congratulations, Annette. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Ending On the Nose with a good win.
Another victim of the pricing game purge of '85. This one was for the best, I think.
These games (baseball, basketball, football, darts) were like the carnival/fair games with a BIG prize!
So the range is like 1/12th the price of a station wagon???
The sound effect played as the big doors open encapsulates the 1980s in just 3 seconds! 3:23
Welcome to the "Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm" period!
Great way for it to go out... but at the end of the day, trying to bring sports to The Price is Right doesn't work - this idea only works with Hole in One.
Or two
I have mixed emotions on this game. I like the variety of games. But low win rate no good
Hole in one worked because ir was made easier the better you did in the game as opposed to here just getting more chances from the same distance no matter what
Maybe for baseball and basketball, it could have worked since there were winners when those sports were played... but the problem unfortunately is that not all contestants are good athletes, and that's what caused the retirement in part along with a low win rate. I think if you had more that were great athletes, we could have seen some more winners.
@@chriswahl4139You're probably on to something there. Instead of giving more chances, a better bid should be rewarded by being closer to the goal. Of course then it's just a Hole in One clone, but it wouldn't be the only time two pricing games were basically the same game.
The final win here was the 7th win in 19 games and only a couple of the sports offered was won. Thus, the decision to leave sport games to just Hole in One.
Bob Barker was dressing casual. I love the crème sport Jacket.
Fantastic! Loved the game. Added variety. Bob sure looks sharp in that sportcoat!
I want to hear Rod Roddy’s voice on The Price is Right The Barker Era!!
Don't give up your hopes, we will see more in 1986.
They are showing Gene Wood's episodes, when will they get to Rod Roddy's episodes?
They were shown on the channel. Hopefully they upload a clip of rods first opening like they did gene
What a good win when Gene Woods had hosted this show and On The Nose was a good start for the finale for this show.
Drew Carey era needs to bring this game back! I loved that pricing game!
He's not a sports fan and I doubt he ever served World War II as Barker did.
@@meyerj75 Drew Carey is a Marine, just so you know.
@@meyerj75world war 2 ended in 1945. Drew Carey was born I 1958.
At least, they were able to go out on a high, but still...
And that same player likely underbid on her showcase too much and caused her opponent to win hers that edition.
I'm sure Annette had no idea that she would be the final contestant to play this game. I wonder if Bob Barker knew that at the time this episode was made?
I loved this game. 2 bad it was short lived. Gene Wood was the temporary announcer. I also liked the music when the doors opened. I miss the 80s
Gene Wood would later leave TPIR to announce the 1986 reboot of Card Sharks. A horrible revival such as removing the original Edd Kadeloff composed music completely, but with a more than 3 year run on CBS and Bob Eubanks on tow, it is almost impossible to mention that the reboot didn't have much of an impressive comeback.
They need to bring this back
It got the axe due to how it required someone to be athletic at a set distance. (As opposed to Hole in One where the pricing portion can make the game a lot easier to win.) It's also not friendly for feeble or disabled players.
I don't think Drew Carey is very good at sports.
@@SupermarketSweep777 "(As opposed to Hole in One where the pricing portion can make the game a lot easier to win.)"
Indeed-- so long as you have an unbroken chain of correct answers, you get closer to the hole; any incorrect answer stops you at the last correct line.
@@bmasters1981 Exactly. While On the Nose only gave you more chances to try.
Weird to hear Gene Wood telling people to Come on Down.
This was taped shortly after the death of Johnny Olson. Gene Wood was one of four substitute announcers until the permanent job was given to Rod Roddy
Gene Wood came back to Price Is Right in 1998 to do the fee plugs during the summer reruns.
2:28 Sublime cuteness.
$1k in '85 is about $3k today
That game sure was a hard one to play.
Wonder why they retired it, also glad it went out on a win

By the way, "California emissions" means the car is engineered to meet the higher standards for smog pollution prevention that California had, compared to other states, at the time. Many car companies made two models. The ones that didn't meet California emissions, of course, we less expensive to produce. Now, I believe all or most states have as stringent requirement as California, so we don't see this anymore.
The balls look bigger than regulation baseballs, but not quite as big as softballs.
Gene wasn't a good fit for Price, interestingly Johnny did the original Family Feud pilot and Gene ended up being a perfect fit for feud just like Johnny was for Price
Family Feud was actually good when Richard Dawson was the host and Gene Wood was the announcer. I thought Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, and John O'Hurley were decent hosts too, but I can't stand the Steve Harvey version. IMHO the show really jumped the shark when he took over the hosting duties. (It may have always had a few slightly risque moments, but the questions got WAY too risque for my taste in the Steve Harvey era.)
I'm going to tell you folks, right now, that she won the car, but what I will not tell you is how many times it took her to win it.
Or if she was indeed on the nose
Excellent!

Bad game. Asking nervous contestants to complete athletic tasks to win a car was a bridge too far. Hole in One works because you get closer to the hole, hence a better chance at winning. This you only get more turns in the same spot. I appreciate some of the zany ideas they had for pricing games during this time, but they were wise enough to move past the ones that didn't work.
