This tutorial is about how to knit the sleeves onto the body of a raglan sweater. Last year our Countdown to Christmas was all about our mini raglan jumper calender.
There were a few comments on how to knit the sleeves onto the body of those mini sweaters. Now we have made a tutorial and hope it resolves any issues you had with attaching the sleeves to the raglan sweater.

it's those little tips that are so good Arne, - eg using the safety pins. And I never knew that the sleeves had to be half the number of stitches as the body - that's a revelation for me. You always teach me something. Thank you! xx
The math in clothing is interesting! I never knew body stitches divided by 2 equals 2 sleeves.
Arne’s sweater is really nice… I love all the mixture of colors and pattern! Thank you for tutorial😊
Cheryl
A revelation to me also!
Must plant out the garlic before I finish watching though

This is so genius. I also didn't know that the sleeves have half the stitches as the body. ALSO, ARNE, your sweater is a masterpiece. That sweater is a knitting goal for me.
Arne I absolutely love your sweater! It's always to see you both!
As someone who hasn't knit a raglan sweater before, this was such a helpful tutorial to understand the concept behind basic raglan shaping. Thank you so so much!! 💕
Arne than you for showing us this tip on attaching the sleeve onto the little jumper. Thank you. Have a great week.
I don't knit at all,but I so enjoy watching the two of you create beautiful things. These little sweaters are so cute! Thanks for sharing your talents with us! Have a great week.
Arne I love your sweater! My kind of colors! Carlos, Your sweater looks very traditional Nordic design. So handsome!
Thank you!
I’ve been knitting over 50 years now and have never seen raglan sleeves attached in this way! What an excellent idea. Your mum is a very clever knitter, Arne. It’s wonderful she passed on her skills to you ❤️ and you to us 💕 thank you 🙏
I did know that sleeves are half body width but I’m not sure why I hadn’t put it together to knit from cuff without a pattern 😆
I am very keen to learn the Norwegian way to hold yarn when knitting. It isn’t easy yet but I will keep trying 🧶
I love watching you knit, Arne, it is like art 🌺
Keep up the good work!
I never knew you could use the kitchener stitch on finished seams. I love that stitch! Thank you for the tip!
You are welcome!
PERFECT!!! I want to knit a really basic bottom-up raglan sweater and was searching and searching for the way to figure out how many stiches the arms should have when you attach them to the body!!!! THANK YOU! - And I think the doll is FABULOUS, too.
Thank you!
I always love this colorful sweater that Arne made for himself! He must be so proud of how he knows how to knit so beautifully! Hope that your mom will be with you a long time, Carlos!
Excellent I enjoyed watching! You both look very autumnal now wearing your jumpers! Love Arne especially as he made it! Xx 😘
i love those little sweaters, I'm glad you showed us the trick about the safety pin. Have a wonderful week, see you Wed !
You as well!
I knitted some of those advent calendar sweaters, they were a lot of fun. Stuck with covid in Mexico I had time and some acrylic yarn and because I couldn’t go until they gave me a retum ticket for the flight home I made first one without a pattern in red and later six others,
Great way to spend your time!
Ingenious .This spring, I was thinking about doing the raglan from beneath. And now you explain this in today' s video. 🤗👍🍀🌻
Thank you. 👍🍀🌻
Great tips... interesting how easily you calcuate the raglan decreases... watching Arne knit sometimes just make a light go on in my head.... next sweater will be bottom up, raglan..without a pattern!!! :)
Thanks for the handy safety pin tip. So much easier to hold little pieces down.
👍
Arne always makes it look so easy - he was holding what, 20 needles at one time??

Thank you, great tip. It’s such a pleasure to watch you both, so knowledgeable and it’s such a part of you, very natural and easy. Enjoy your week😎
The safety pins are a great trick. You give me confidence to knit a bottom up sweater thanks !
You are welcome!
ThAnk you! Now I can knit a sweater.
Great tips in this video. Attaching the sleeves is very much like your do for knitting a yoke on a jumper
Thank you for the refresher. I love these videos!
You are welcome!
Hello, Arne and Carlos. Thank you for this tip, Arne❤️
You are welcome!
Always learning great tips from you both, Arne watching you knit is mesmerizing how fast you knit. Hope you guys have a wonderful week. 💕🇨🇦
You as well Darlene!
Great video! I do say, learning on a miniature is harder for me. It's why I started with a toddler size
Love your jumper Arne very colourful. Hope your Dolly likes her new jumper. Hehe look forward to Wednesday. Thank however for today. Xx
Blessings 🌻
So very cute!! I wish I king as quickly as Arne!😎
Way cool...I learnt something new today....Thanks guys
Joining the sleeves in always makes me think - until I actually do it and think it’s not as hard as I thought - but I have never thought to use the safety pins. This is brilliant Arne - or brilliant of your mum to have mentioned it all those years ago. Thanks so much. 🌻🧶
I got the advent sweater patterns for just this exact reason. I have been scared to try to knit a sweater for myself. But I must say… you just slayed my fear. Starting a human sized raglan sweater in 3…2…1… THANK YOU!!!
Never be afraid!
@@ARNECARLOS I appreciate your tutorials so very much ❤️
These are adorable, thank you so much for sharing.
You are welcome!
Would you do a tutorial on how to sew the bind off stitches together under the arm? I’ve made 2 sets (48) jumpers for my children this year for Advent and all that needs to be done is the underarm part. I’d really like to get them completed so I can start filling them with goodies. 🥰 Love your videos! I’ve learned so much from your tutorials. I feel like I’m more confident and courageous trying new projects and techniques. Thank you for sharing your lives with everyone around the world. I’m from Tennessee - not too far from Dollywood. Dolly Parton is our hometown hero! I understand you enjoy her music as well 💕
Thank you for the turtorial suggestion!
I agree. I can’t seem to get it to look neat when I sew the underarms together
I’ve always done top down raglans now I feel like I could start from the bottom. Thank you! 😘
You are welcome Julianna!
Thank you! You make it easy!
Thanks for the episode. I have been knitting the mini jumpers all summer. 12 done 12 to go. I was getting a little tired of it, but your episode gave me new energy!
Great tip on pinning the sleeves. I had been pinning them at the castoff. Your way is much easier!
When I am done with all 24 I will tackle the Red Barna sweater.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Very helpful
Thanks for this one...
You are welcome!
What a wonderful tip, I would never have thought for doing that, I'm going to give it a try.
Do so!
Cool. Thanks for doing the video for these. They've been fun to do.
You are welcome!
Thank you for the tip. I have always been a little afraid off knitting bottom up sweaters.
I'll give the mini sweater a try😊
We hope you enjoy knitting it!
Thank you! I was needing this tip :)
Been away for awhile. Having an incredibly difficult year. Don't knit but love to spend time with you both. Not having a good time right now in life. Lisa
Hi Lisa, we hope you will feel better soon.
Someday …🇳🇴💙🇳🇴💙🇳🇴💙
One day!
I love all these tips!
Thank you, gentlemen! So helpful, and you are fun, as usual. 🙃🙂
Thank you!
Hi Guys
I think I heard angels singing in the background when Arne said the sleeves stitches are 1/2 of the body stitches! Who needs a pattern now?! Not me! Lol Thank you bunches & Blessings
Thank you so much for sharing! I am finding your tips very useful!
That is great to hear, thank you for watching!
This is a great tutorial, thanks. I was wondering how that works - have not made many sweaters (and want to make lots!) and have always started from the top.
Thanks very much!!
👍😁🥰🍀Thank you!
Great informative video thank you xxx
You are welcome
I knitted the first sweater but did not enjoy the prospect of knitting 24. i also knitted the sleeves plain. i finished it and it is lovely and sits on a wine bottle really well. so i might adapt the idea and knit 24 squares for advent calendar as a blanket maybe. but will possibly knit some adaptation as bottle covers for presents. might put initials rather than numbers.
you are very inspiring.
That would be nice!
Saludos de chile🌻💕
Arne, I just looove your gorgeous sweater. Do you have the pattern for it? I can always dream I'll be able to knit it one day 😍💕
Hi Guys can you please show how to do a fancy stitch where the sleeves join the body Thanks and Love 💜💜
Arne, what are you wearing? It looks absolutely fabulous! 🤩
My own design
I couldn’t see what Arne was doing on the first row sleeve. Was he knitting from the body then connecting the sleeve top, leaving the bottom underarm hole (the part pinned closest to the body till later?
I heard his words explaining which part of the sleeve to include in the round but did wish there was a slower and closer view of knitting it. Arne is just so talented I think it's hard for him to think like the beginner I am. I have never knit a sweater and really want to so the little mini makes me feel encouraged!
so cure
Oh I gotta finish my sweaters. Actually I am gonna redo them. I just need an excuse to use yarn and knit😂
I Kitchener the underarm gusset. This is because I utterly hate sewing knitting together. :o) I'd far rather use Kitchener, or pick up stitches than sew.
Can you please explain how you do that?
Love Arne's sweater! Is there a pattern for it? If so, would love to get it. Thank you. 😊
Not yet!
I might go around with my arms up in the air if my sleeve attachment went well! We'll see! I'm working in a human sweater now. This is my tutorial remnder
Where can I get a pattern for a sweater like Arne's?
❤️❤️MFG
can you do crocheting
We do alot of that yes, ruclips.net/p/PLElv_tSbHW3pSXHVubGc7Feh13gAf8kbJ
That looks soooo complicated 😆😆I think I will stick to knitting on straight needles 🧶🧶
👍🏻
What about the body-oddy-oddy? 😀
😂
I thought it would be interesting to watch but he knits so fast I couldn't see what he was doing
You can use RUclipss slow motion function if it is too fast.
OK guys I’m making save the children’s sweater in small. I have the torso knitted. I have the two sleeves knitted. How do I bind off and leave the yarn at the beginning. Do you knit the complete round under the line in your graph or over the line in your graph then bind off and then attach the sleeves because you can’t bind off in the middle of a row. I love you too dearly, but Arnie, you talk too fast and your camera is not showing what you were doing. I would like a full illustration. I did buy this pattern. Your instructions in the pattern are way too hard to understand. This would be way easier if it was top down. Ok update I found a RUclips video showing me how to add the sleeves to the body on a bottom up raglan sweater. Ok for others info… you bind off 5 stitches in the beginning of the round of the body of the sweater. Then continue in pattern to your next marker bind off 5 stitches before your marker then 5 stitches after your marker continue in pattern to the end 5 stitches before your first marker bind off.. your end loop is in the MIDDLE of the 2 bind offs the first 5 bind off stitches and the last bind off stitches. CUT your yarn leave a long end. Do the same with the bind off on the sleeves with 5 after marker and then knit around the sleeve to 5 before the marker and then bind off.
