Beautifully done. Thanks so much. I put down a project about a year and a half ago after knitting the individual pieces because I was too intimidated to sew the seams I needed to continue. It's a raglan/yoke combo (and the directions aren't great). Now I have someone in mind I want to give the sweater to and so I want to finish it. This excellent video will go a long way toward helping me finish.
Just finished a vintage raglan pattern. Instructions for joining were as follows: insert sleeves and join side and underarm seams. Love how every woman was expected to know how to knit and sew. Next I have to make and join a button band. 🤣
Brilliant video, thankyou. You're so clear with your instructions. I've never quite understood what I needed to do before watching this.. so often i tried to get it right but with no luck..then Eurika! I found your video! Thankyou again, you're a seam saver 😂❤
Following this demo I get three stitches in the middle and on the picture that goes with my pattern I should have four (2x2) stitches in the middle. I'm trying to sew the edge stitches together now, hopefully that doesn't give a problem while wearing the sweater?
My pattern also said just "join the raglans" without specifying how. The method of this video was actually incorrect for my pattern, which used the row-end knot stitches as design features. I had to sew into the first stitch of each row, not the second, in order to duplicate the pattern picture.
Hi love the way of the raglan construction it is the best way i have ever, seen thank you so much !! I also like the raglan shaping where can i find the pattern please ?
Hi Mary! This video doesn't have a pattern associated with it, it's just demonstrating a generic raglan sleeve seam. We have many sweaters with raglan sleeves, some joined like this and some worked in the round, at berroco.com/search/node/raglan.
It's a lovely video but would have loved it if you could have done a few more sample stitching before going straight to armpit to get beginner knitters into the flow.
Thanks for showing! I've often wondered how the seams look thicker and it's the way it's been matched together then sewn cause I've sewn the raglan differently. It was my first jumper to adult son too. Now finishing 2nd jumper for him, I'll try how you showed, then I'll do one for myself ☺❣💜🍾

I wish I would have seen this a week ago. I made my first sweater and it took me a long time to make it. Last week I tried sewing it together and ruined it. I had no idea what I was doing and completely ruined it. I just cried as I finally ended up throwing it in the garage..🧶😢
I hope it's not too late to rescue it from exile in the garage. Unless you've cut threads in the original, it isn't ruined. Start at one end of whatever seems you put in, use magnifiers if it helps, and remove the yarn you attempted to sew the seam with. If you tied it off, then VERY CAREFULLY locate (use tweezers and/or a tapestry needle) the yarn or thread you attempted the seam with, and cut it at the knot. DO NOT cut the yarn of either piece of the sweater. Once you've removed the knots, it will be easy to pull out the failed seam. Then just fiddle with the fabric a little and any distortions from the failed seam will disappear. Then try again. If the mattress stitch is too hard, you can turn the work inside out, pin the seam, and the sew the seam using the same yarn that you used for the sweater. I find that easier -- just be sure to sew the stitches close enough together to not leave gaps. If it's any consolation, this has happened to all of us.
Hi Debbie, We don't typically do tutorials on how to make entire garments, as that would be a very long video! Are you having any trouble with a particular part? Or have you looked for patterns that appeal to you? Ravelry has a ton!
Berroco Yarn no I've tried patterns but just can't seem to work them up that why I thought tutorial would be better thank you for your time hopefully I will get help somewhere and be able to make one soon.
Excellent video ! I have never knitted a raglan sweater and you really show how to assemble!😊Thank you!
Thank you for your expertise. This video gives me some understanding on how to assemble the cardigan I am making for my new grandchild.
I keep coming back to this it's so clear and helpful thank you! 💖

Beautifully done! Do you have a tutorial for getting the edges so neat and even while knitting? That would be a great help too!, thanks
When you sew the raglan up are you sewing from the inside or the outside of the sweater?
I would like to know too!
Right side facing you

Very clear demonstration! Many thanks, as this tutorial is just what I needed xx

Thank you! Just finished knitting my raglan sweater and the instructions were awful. This will be a big help.

Is that the outer side up?

Is this stitched with right side facing me? This is not clear. Thanks
Do you sew it on the right or wrong side.
Right side!
I guess the right sides are facing down?
Is this seaming done on the right side or the wrong side of the raglan? It looks like the right side but I've learned not to assume!
Hi Dawn! It is the right side!

Thank you. I love your rings :) lovely.
