    It always amazes me when I see the phrase "The Best Camera is the One You Have With You" attributed to Chase Jarvis. Don't get me wrong: I really love his work and he's a master of self promotion. Thing is......I first heard that little nugget of wisdom in 1973 from a picture editor working in Scotland. Chase would have been about 3 then :)

    • @boomshiddang

      Haha, good to know - and thanks for chiming in Lester! I have heard the phrase mentioned generically before and never knew who said it so when I was doing the research for the video to find out who it was, it seemed to be…Chase Jarvis. Guess I was wrong - should have dug a bit deeper!

      @@boomshiddang Hey! Don't sweat it: just an observation. Even Chase thinks he's responsible for it :) Shit! He even self titled a book with that exact quote. He even has a story of the very moment the thought fell from the heavens and entered his head. Good story too. Chase is great at stories. Anyway! Good reviews. Keep up the good work.

      @biggreenmachine2007 It's certainly not an upgrade for everyone. The F is still a great deal, especially now, if you get it used and you don't need the new things that the V offers. That being said, I got a chance to play around with the V in person recently and you're definitely getting more than just 4k video ;) There are a lot of new features both big and small that add up to what feels like a totally new camera. I'll be uploading a video on my first impressions soon!

    I'm surprised there was no mention of the fantastic film simulations especially the wonderful Acros B&W.. and the high quality jpeg files it creates. Only the x-series cameras give you photographs that do a convincing job of looking like actual photos and not these oversharp, clinical, digitally perfect "images" that come out of every other camera on the market.

    • @boomshiddang
      @boomshiddang  4 года назад +3

      I actually did record a segment on film simulations, but decided to cut it out of the final edit! What occurred to me is that I really should make a separate, dedicated video just on Fuji film simulations as that is more of a universal Fujifilm topic than something that is unique to the X100F. And yes, totally agree on the beautiful imperfections. Stay tuned!

    Does LX100/D Lux 7 better for simple camera setup since it has a useful zoom lens ?

    • @boomshiddang
      @boomshiddang  4 года назад

      I'm not familiar with the LX100 so I couldn't really give you a balanced opinion but I'd say if you want a zoom lens you're looking at a different class of camera. The X100F's fixed lens is what makes it special! A disadvantage for some (and as I mentioned in the beginning of the video, I judged it for that initially too!) but once you settle into being "forced" to use the 35mm focal length 100% of the time, there is an inexplicable magic of simplicity that happens. Hope that helps!

If you want to change out lenses then skip the XT100 and go for the XT200 as it’s a much better camera and the upgrades features are totally worth it - hope that helps!

    OK I'm a total traditionalist when it comes to cameras. Like my
    favorite camera is my beloved Nikon FM 35 mm SLR film camera. However
    I'm getting tired of lugging it around with a bag full of lenses and
    accessories; the poor selection of 35 mm film available locally
    (excepting mail order); and hit-or-miss film developing. I have a
    digital camera: a Sony DSC-S780 which my wife bought for me back in
    2008 but I'm looking to upgrade to a more modern digital camera. I've
    pretty much discounted DSLR's because I want something easy to carry,
    and generally DSLR's are too 'fidgety' and over-laden with buttons and
    gizmos. I like simple. I value image quality over a bunch of features
    which I probably won't use most of the time and if it takes too much
    fooling around scrolling through menus and trying to push tiny buttons;
    not interested. This Fuji X100F really appeals to me but how about the
    build quality? Is it fairly robust construction (like a metal body)?
    Guess I'm spoiled by my Nikon FM because it is built like a tank. I
    basically want a good digital camera to be primarily used for travel,
    portraits, and just generally 'recording the moment'. I'll save the
    more involved photography for my FM or when I just feel like shooting
    film. Comments, recommendations? Thank

    • @boomshiddang
      @boomshiddang  4 года назад +1

      Hi Thomas, welcome to the channel! I mention in my review that I love the way the X100F feels. It definitely has a high quality build, mostly of metal. I've unfortunately dropped it more times than I can count and it has survived. Of course there are scratches and dings on it now, but still works just as well as the first day I owned it. But camera 'feel' is also very subjective so I'd encourage you to go into a physical camera store and hold it in your own hands. Some people feel that Fuji cameras are too small - which I did when I first started working with them (XT20 and X100F) but I eventually got used to it and now holding a DSLR feels like a drag. The X100F appeals to people just like you: those of us that want an everyday camera capable of very high quality beautiful imagery. Hope that helps!

    • @thomasmoje5926
      @thomasmoje5926 4 года назад

      @@boomshiddang I prefer to shoot in full manual mode..manual focusing, manual exposure setting..because that's what I'm used to with my Nikon FM film camera..I like to have full control. But I do not know how to properly do that with the Fujifilm X100F yet so for now I focus manually, pick the aperture I want to use and let the camera choose the shutter speed. ('aperture preferred automatic') The learning curve with the Fuji is somewhat steep but I'm confident I'll get the hang of it. Took some family portrait shots with it the other day with everything set to automatic and the photos were excellent. I really like the metering area options and film equivalent options..really cool. For example: the 'sepia tone' option: I like to take 'period setting' shots at historical locations with historical re-enactors in period clothing, etc. and sepia toning adds that 'old time view camera' feel. (think Civil War type photos)

      Hi Beka! If you're asking about the X100F, it uses a 23mm lens which is equivalent to 35mm on full frame. However, on a different Fuji body which you can change the lenses like the XT3 for example, then yes 35mm would be 52.5mm with Fuji's 1.5x APS-C crop factor. Hope that helps!

      Wealth Coach Kahnju Ecleo well I’ve never dropped it in water but I’ve taken it on all sorts of outdoor adventures and I can tell you that in at least light rain and even heavy wind, it has survived just fine. Other X100F owners have reported the same. So I wouldn’t worry about it too much! I do really hope that the next iteration is weather sealed however - it makes a lot of sense for this camera!

      @@boomshiddang I'm waiting for the next version of it, and I hope it's WR. It totally makes sense to have it WR. It's the only feature that's missing tbh.

      @@kahnjugaming Ha, I get it now! Have you thought about getting the Xpro3/2/1 and the 23mm WR? It's an alternative to consider. It would big be slightly bigger and heavier but the closest WR equivalent in the Fuji lineup. And you'd probably save a good amount of cash if you got the Xpro2 or 1 used!

    • @kahnjugaming
      @kahnjugaming 4 года назад

      @@boomshiddang Exactly. But if I had the xpro, I would rather have a different focal length mounted on it. I was wishing that the x100 series was WR so I can use it for my 23mm needs. It frees me time from having to switch lenses (saves me from sensor issues as well). Also, I'm a prime shooter (zoom lenses make me feel like a stalker for some reason) so having two cameras is handy (size and weight management is a big factor here). lol!
      If it were WR, it would be the perfect camera for what it's intended for tbh. I wish they will make it WR for the next version.

    You are not comparing apples with apples. The X100F 23mm is 35mm equivalent.
    The 35mm on your Canon is 56mm equivalent.

    • @boomshiddang
      @boomshiddang  4 года назад +2

      Peter Gould that’s true when using APS-C on Canon, however the camera I am talking about in this video is the 6D, which is full frame, so 35mm does in fact mean 35mm :) still not a true apples to apples comparison in some aspects but the point I’m making is that the X100F is good enough in most aspects to convince me to make the switch!

    so what you're saying is, anyone who bases their opinion on specs and price is ignorant. as you get more informed, you realise simpler and less does not mean less good.

    • @boomshiddang
      @boomshiddang  4 года назад

      Well I'd say it's more like specs and price are good starting points - you gotta start somewhere. But they're not everything. That's when user experience comes in. The beauty of the X100F is that it simplifies things in a way that actually makes it more attractive to use.
