Sephardic Jews were actually very prosperous in early Muslim Iberia and many reached very prominent positions. They initially saw the Muslims as liberators, and the scholastic culture propagated in Muslim Iberia allowed for the continued development of Karaite Judaism which, from what I understand is passed down paternally and was critical of Rabbinic interpretations of Jewish holy texts, and preferred a much more literal view. For some reason the game has Sephardi as an Israelite culture, but Iberian Sephardics actually spoke a Romance Mozarabic language similar to Castilian.
