Great energy in your vids Ginja. A lot of people complain on Facebook lawn groups saying this stuff don't work. Obviously they didn't use per label! I zapped crabgrass by letting it set for 4 days, NO WATER!!! This stuff works!
Been using Spectracide for years myself too. Great off the shelf product. Like you mentioned, weed maturity and dosage really affect how much killing happens.
I've been using Spectracide Weed Stop for years. I've been very happy with the results. Glad to have you verify that it's good to go as advertised. Thanks for posting, I always enjoy your Video's and advice.
For a small/medium yard, that is a great choice. It's what I have used ever since I moved into my house (4000 sf hybrid Bermuda). It seems to do a great job on everything we have in Georgia except for Poa Annua. For Poa, I'll add in some Image. What I like best about the Spectracide is that I only need 1 product for most of the time. I don't have to try to identify the weed and then figure out what to use. And, it's only $10 for a bottle of concentrate that will last all year. I just mix it up in a pump sprayer and spot spray. It will sometimes yellow my Bermuda, but that recovers pretty quickly.
This product surprised me this year. I used the hose in version to kill off weeds, mostly targeting crab grass. After the first application I was surprised at how well it killed off nutsrdge as well. But to my surprise after the first application I noticed it killed off creeping brntgrass. I wasnt even targeting it as I have always thought Tenacity was the only cure for bentgrass as a selective herbicide. I looked at rhe label of Spectracide and it does list bentgrass. The next application two weeks later I hammered the bentgrass. It turned white a few days later and seems to have died off. I have since done a fall overseed and good turfgrass is growing back where the bentgrass was. I dont see any bentgrass coming up. Its too early to say the bentgrass is erraficated, but I think if i keep using this product I can eventually get it out. Without spending a fortune on tenacity.
I picked up some of this stuff back in July. We can't get this in Canada, so over the border it came with me. I can tell you one thing. It's an amazing product. I did buy the concentrate, and at the rate I was applying it at, 6.4oz a gallon, it did a great job on the weeds, including the crab grass, which was at a mature stage. Will highly recommend this.
Good To see that you still care. How is that Utah Lake water treating you? Been a tuff -Est year I remember trying to keep the lawn alive, if that's what it's called.
My neighbor has so many weeds I counted 10 species. It was not his fault he just moved in and when the previous owner cut his so call lawn really short it actually looked great from the street. The new owner hired a lawn care company and when he came out, he said he never seen that many weeds in a lawn. So, he sprayed the lawn It killed all the weeds, but no grass was found. But Luckly it was time to reseed.
I used this on the weeds growing between the rocks around my house and lawn a few months ago. It killed most of the weed types, but the clover around my house just laughed at it. Made sure I gave it a few days of dry weather, but it didn't really affect the clover that much. Whatever type of clover I have is highly resistant to every herbicide I've used. I just keep using the trimmer and cutting them. Thankfully, the combinations of different herbicides I've used over the summer have at least slowed their spread.....albeit a small amount.
Great content as always. Hoping you have a moment for a quick question. I am in zone 7a and applied Quinclorac 75 DF yesterday for an abundance of crabgrass, clover, etc. How long should I wait to airate / power rake and over sead? Should I lay down a pre-emergent at the same time? Thanks.
I notice in a lot of you videos your pup… can you make a video about seeding, fertilizing, and weed control with a pup? Would be greatly appreciated since I think that topic is very scarce
Spectracide works. i tried the one with water hose. after a day you see the weed turning brown. may miss some spot so i prefer to get the solution where you mix and spray with a bag sprayer.
We bought a house my husband till me a garden. All summer i fought the crabgrass and Bermuda grass kept coming back. If this fall I spray it with something (what are you suggesting) to kill it but not hurt the garden in the spring?
Ginja, I redid my lawn this fall. Due to numerous weeds, including quackgrass, I sprayed it with Killzall. After seeing that everything was nice and dead, I seeded it with a mix of non-RTF and Bluegrass. It’s exciting to see it come in, but my stomach sank when quackgrass appeared again. Quackgrass is the Rambo of weeds. Any suggestions with how to deal with it?
You're doing it right! Random seeds most likely germinated. Be diligent on your pre emergents in the spring for the next few years. also, spot spray the ones that pop up! Sounds like you're doing great!
This is the only thing short of commercial application that works on spurge. I have santa ana bermuda. One thing that helps spurge killing is controlling ants. I was told the ants bury and disperse seeds for later use. I've been staying ahead of ants as much as possible and seems my spurge problem is not as bad.
I do read on the label to apply under 90f... its nice we are finally getting some days under 90 in Utah. But is there anything we can use when the days ae close to 100f?
Same as I show in the video. Mix with 1 gallon of water if you bought the concentrate and use as directed by the label. I have a video on how to calibrate a back pack sprayer. If you bought the pre mixed as I did in the video spray exactly as I do in the video
This may be a dumb question.. but would you pull the weed after it looks dead? If not, how long would it take for sick crabgrass to be gone entirely after sprayed?
I like the spectracide combo for bind weed and prefer what you me tinned for clover. But.... you're right. The pre emergent is hard to beat and also the overall price per 1000 sq ft is much better on the non pre mix
Do these kinds of products also kill the seeds on spurge for example? I find it so hard to get rid of because the number of seeds it puts out so quickly 😭 a pre-emergent is key as well of course but always wondered if killing the growing weed also effects the seeds that may have formed?
purslane, crabgrass, nutsedge, creeping charlie, clover....I am going to try this....Tenacity works for a few months but then it comes back.......crabgrass drives me crazy the most though...side note on this product, it CANNOT be shipped to NY state...hmmm
The creeping Charlie is the tough one. The triclopyr and the dicamba are definitely the way to go. But with the amount of followups you'll need I'd consider buying the contractor products
It would appear that you also have an issue with a land hippo in your yard! 😂 I have three chunky, cuddly, fart factories laying land mines in my yard as well!! Love my bulldogs!!
Like how detailed you are with what everyday lawn users work with.
Not all of us are going to buy professional stuff.
Keep it up!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback

EXCELLENT video! You are THE BEST!

Glad i found your channel. Does this kill to the root? I hate weeds as we all do. Do we have to keep spraying this on same area yearly? Thanks

I would wait two weeks. If your seeding cool season grass I would use tenacity as the pre emergent and you can do it same time you seed

I just recently had my back yard hydro seeded. My yard now is covered in purslane. Hoping this will help
It can. But it's wise to wait a minimum 8 weeks post germination and for zoysia it's longer

There are a few products that do not list or have a temperature rating. I still don't recommend it. Best to wake up early
Would that work on wild mushrooms?
Commonly not. Mushrooms are commonly due to slightly over watering
I bought the concentrate. What's the simplest way to calibrate with a backpack sprayer?

Do you recommend this over Tenacity+Tzone? This does not have pre-emergent qualities right? I'm in NJ with cooler fescues.

They do not kill seeds. You can use a pre emergent to help disrupt future germination

How is it on nutsedges ? Parts of my lawns (3!) are more than 50% nutsedge.
It's on the list. The sulfentrazone active ingredient hits it. I was unable to text it as nutsedge isn't widely spread in my area
It would appear that you also have an issue with a land hippo in your yard! 😂 I have three chunky, cuddly, fart factories laying land mines in my yard as well!! Love my bulldogs!!
Bulldogs or no dogs 😆
Is it recommended to pull out the dead weeds once they are toast or are you supposed to leave the dead weeds in place and nature will do its thang?
Doesn't matter. But they do take a while to break down which is why people like to pull the dead out two weeks later
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks, Ginja!
what about speedzone?
2,4-D, 2-ethylhexyrl ester 28%
Mecoprop-p acid 5.88%
Dicamba acid 1.71%
Carfentrazone-ethyl 062%

No. I would 💯 mention it
Quack grass?
Fusillade ii is what you'll need or a product with fluazifop.
Just keep in mind it's not for all grass types.
The weed stop you demonstrated kills the grass and some weeds, but on all your wide-leaf weeds had no effect. Which weed killer kills big-leaf weeds?
I have the same question and the problem. I wish he had shown and advised the chemical to kill wide leaf to get rid of.
You'll need to identify the "big leaf weed" . These sprays are meant to kill what is listed on the label
