Gotta day I’ve watched this about 15-20 times. Probably 1/3 of those views are from after I got the pedal, and I totally love it. You get right to the point and explain it perfectly.
Ryan, Thanks for a job "really" well done my friend. Very (to the point) video for someone (like me) who's interested in only freezing notes/cords as opposed to wanting (tons) of various Sound Effects. I just got mine, and it works very well for my needs. The best aspect is "NO" annoying "LOUD" click when you press the Button as on some other Freeze Pedals. Thanks again...
Notice latch mode is in GREEN and the dials secondary function in GREEN is LAYER. Several ehx pedals use this color scheme to depict a possible 2nd "function" per se, for a dial etc.
Man! I'm so glad you explained it all. I was flipping through reviews/demos of the pedal trying to figure out how the hell it works. Got this pedal via trade and thought it was broken at first cause it was confusing without a manual lol.
joegridl the speed/layer knob's function actually varies by whichever mode your'e in. in momentary mode it makes the sounds crossfade more quickly or more slowly; in latch mode it controls the volume of the previously captured layers (rather than limit them to a certain number); in auto mode it determines how long the previously captured sound will take to fade out on its own.
A very trippy-sounding pedal. I'll bet if I plugged one of those electric sitars into it, or had a sitar-like effect in the signal path before it, it would sound like some otherworldly Indian raga or something!
Okay so this is what I want. I thought i was after a compressor because i desired more sustain but the compressor is way subtle and squishes my chords too much. this pedal sounds like you can blast in your full chords and still have decent sustain
This is a really cool pedal. I modified mine to make it a little more user friendly. I added an external footswitch input so I can plug in a sustain pedal. Now I can hold/freeze notes with a pedal instead of the tiny button on the SuperEgo. I can modify your pedal if you like or show you how to do it. Contact me. Take it easy.
oakdude, you are in the dark! . . you also need a fender bassman, deluxe reverb, super reverb, ac30tb, rhode head, 4-12 greenbacks cab, marshall superlead mkii 1959, valco thunderbolt, behringer practice amp, fender strat, tele, jazzmaster, jaguar, mustang, gibson les paul, explorer, a couple $8OO plus teiscos, an new ibanez a&japan made one from the 70s, a gretsch with a dynasonic, a rickie with a toaster, a fano, cases for guitars &s, a roadie or two, v8 truck, insurance, etc!!!! (strings, tubes, cleaners) . . goodluck!!!! :-)
I like this informatve video. Is it possible to set the "Super Ego" to sound/act like the "Freeze" pedal? Will this pedal do the infinity hold for reverbs that do not have the feature built in?
EHX pedals have a very high learning curve, they are very modular/dynamic and take some serious time/tweaking to be useful. That being said I have had a " Memory Man w/Hazarai " since 2008 and still getting new sounds whenever I tweak it 10 yrs later. If you're a plug n play type, maybe not your cup of tea, just saying.
I still get incredibly sounds out of a regular old deluxe memory man, the timing can be incredibly irritating but my god that is what delay is supposed to sound like
Hey, I have a burning question. Is the effects loop bypassed when the pedal is not engaged? I have a lot of cool pedals such as a pog2 that I would love to ad to the eveffcts loop of the pedal but I would still want to be able to use those effects independently if the superego is turned off. Otherwise this pedals super awesome effects loop is not a practical as I would need.
Can you advise please. If I play a bass note to capture the sound I presume it would appear at the 'Send' output. Does this mean that if I don't return the the caputured, (sustained) sound it could be separated out to another amp, while the 'live' sound would come out of the normal output? Would this work?
Thanks for the video! Very helpful. But would this be ideal pedal paired with a volume pedal and reverb, for swells? Seems like a lot of people use a number of pedals to get swells. And looking for a cheaper; alternative. But still get the same sound.
Nice Vid! Is the other effectpedal in the loop (send & return) only tu use, if the superego is activ? Or is it possilble to use them even the superego is off? sorry ma english... :-)
If it's in the effects loop, yes, it only affects the signal when the superego is on. t1m makes a box of some kind that will let you effectively send a pedal to 2 different places (like use it normally and put it in an effects loop) so you might be interested in that!
Hey! Great Video! I have a question about the pedal: Is it possible to get like a constant tone while tremolo picking notes? I don't want to post another RUclips link in the comment but please have a look at the song Walk The Fleet Road by Editors. Is it possible to recreate the guitar sound with the Superego? Thanks!
you can do that, yeah; you can have it hold some constant tone or stacked tones and then play over it in a certain mode -- latch maybe? i forget which, but you can. :) as far as that song goes, after listening to the first half it seems like you could get something close -- just remember the tone you pick is going to be constant, kinda like a pad. you might be able vary the tone that's held and still play stuff over it after you change it each time or something, but it would take a lot of fancy footwork i think. :)
Good demo, but many EH pedals sound cool at first, but after a while you realize how coldly synthetic and digital they sound (though the Memory Man + Hazarai is great).
The Layer knob is explained not very accurate. to the left there is only one layer possible, the more you turn it, the more layers you can add to the first.
great review! dont think u talk 2 much at all; good balance btwn words & sounds. i actually - sort of- got to understand how this somewt complex pedal works.
+Joseph Suratt I believe it is, yeah. You could probably get around that if you bought something from this1smyne -- I think he makes boxes that will let an effect effectively send to 2 different places. Could be worth looking into if you're interested!
I'm actually really disappointed by this thing. It's really nothing more than a freeze pedal, with a pitch shifter involved. The Subdecay Octasynth seems like a much cooler pedal.
+DeadCell34 I don't have a use for it personally with the type of stuff I play, either -- but for that niche, it's awesome (as are a lot of pedals). I'm actually looking at getting an Octasynth right now too actually, haha. Totally unrelated to this pedal, though -- another niche. :)
+DeadCell34 totally different, that is more bassy sounding, but it sounded cool, checked it out after reading your comment, but they couldn't be more different
Ryan Kiesshauer Sorry friend! But as a Christian and someone who researches a LOT into this kind of thing, for me it definitely isnt cool to have this on there... so much so that it has probably compromised the purchase! Im kind of extreme like that but I dont want any association with the darkness at all.
tristianos Like most things, that symbol has both a positive and negative meaning. Unfortunately, most people know just about the negative because that is what most people focus on.
tristianos Or...you could ignore a stupid symbol that means whatever you want it to mean. By the way, it's just a part of their company logo fitted inside a triangle. Geez.
I wish @ElectroHarmonix would dress up these pedals a little better they always look so cheap looking for $219 dollars give it paint job instead of slapping a sticker on top
to be fair, I have not watched every demo of every pedal, but, this is the dullest i have seen so far. I was looking to buy this, but now I'm not so excited
didn't know Louis CK demo'ed pedals
Lmao
Now I just need this, a looper pedal, volume pedal, delay, alter ego, more delays, holy grail+, a POG2, a new power supply and I'm set!
Ok the edge
You're almost there!
Na you definitely need a Big muff too!
Don't be such a cheap ass...it takes money to play...lol
And when you get all of those you'll only need about 6 more lol
JUST PLAY THE DAMN PEDAL
I'm kidding, that was very thorough, which is what pedal reviews should be like IMO.
Haha, sorry. These complicated pedals warrant long explanations. ...at least I think so. :)
Ryan Kiesshauer
They really do - even when you want to try one at a music shop they don't tell you much...
Best demo on this pedal I've seen yet. Thanks!
thank you sir!
Very well done, and comprehensive too. Thinking about using this with my electric violin and you've convinced me to try this out.
Thanks man!
Gotta day I’ve watched this about 15-20 times. Probably 1/3 of those views are from after I got the pedal, and I totally love it. You get right to the point and explain it perfectly.
Thanks man!
This was my first time seeing your page. Great demo, really professional and thorough. Looking forward to seeing more demos from you.
thank you sir!

Very helpful, Ryan. Droff runs one and I haven't found a video that explains so much so well (so quickly). I may see what I can do about grabbing one.
Man! I'm so glad you explained it all. I was flipping through reviews/demos of the pedal trying to figure out how the hell it works. Got this pedal via trade and thought it was broken at first cause it was confusing without a manual lol.

That was the review I was looking for, thanks !
You’re welcome!
i just ordered mine today looking forward in putting good use of it !
A very trippy-sounding pedal. I'll bet if I plugged one of those electric sitars into it, or had a sitar-like effect in the signal path before it, it would sound like some otherworldly Indian raga or something!
+6672rock EHX has a "Ravish Sitar" pedal that sounds really awesome
I just bought both of those pedals along with a jerry cantrell wah. they sound sooo good together. :-)
Awesome video! For people who keep complaining about the amount of talking, try intro riffs with the pedal for your review!
Really great video, man. Thanks for the explanation and the time to share this.
Shawn Stack Thanks for watching, Shawn!
Thank you veeeery much for this great vid, you helped me a lot with my Superego 🙏
Love from 🇨🇭
Thank you Stefan!
Okay so this is what I want. I thought i was after a compressor because i desired more sustain but the compressor is way subtle and squishes my chords too much. this pedal sounds like you can blast in your full chords and still have decent sustain
great and comprehensive little vid.
Excellent demo.
Thanks man!
thanks Ryan, great demo.
You’re welcome!

Thanks so much, can't wait to get one
You’re welcome!
High gliss sounds better with minor chords in my opinion. You can do a great rendition of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" with this pedal.
wow, waiting to receive the Superego, but I am a novice with pedals and my learning curve is straight up.
oakdude, you are in the dark! . . you also need a fender bassman, deluxe reverb, super reverb, ac30tb, rhode head, 4-12 greenbacks cab, marshall superlead mkii 1959, valco thunderbolt, behringer practice amp, fender strat, tele, jazzmaster, jaguar, mustang, gibson les paul, explorer, a couple $8OO plus teiscos, an new ibanez a&japan made one from the 70s, a gretsch with a dynasonic, a rickie with a toaster, a fano, cases for guitars &s, a roadie or two, v8 truck, insurance, etc!!!! (strings, tubes, cleaners) . . goodluck!!!! :-)
@Sarah Waters - You are on it! You should be a equipment tone inspector (+ other duties as assigned, roadie manager, truck driver, etc. ; ~)
Two minutes into to this, I'm ready to "CHOKE SOMEBODY"!
I just killed somebody. ..your good..haha
I like this informatve video. Is it possible to set the "Super Ego" to sound/act like the "Freeze" pedal? Will this pedal do the infinity hold for reverbs that do not have the feature built in?
The best demo!
thanks man!
I think it's pretty nutty. I want to try one out for a few hours. .
Great video you explained a lot in such a short amount of time 👍
Thank you!
Just curious...how would this behave with a drum machine ?
i officially have no idea on that one, haha. sorry!

Great vid. Very informative.
+Raytheon Orion Thanks man! Thank you for watching.
I bet this would be pretty sweet with an EHX B9 or C9 in the loop.
Sounds like the THX sound effect when the layer knobs is all the way up.
Hey the best tuto video bout this great pedal I've seen so far good video t-you =)
ulsa_smths demo Thanks for watching!

Is Louis C.K doing the demo for this? lol
Seriously though great walkthrough.
Nope. And thanks. :)
Thanks for the video! Very helpful.
But would this be ideal pedal paired with a volume pedal and reverb, for swells?
Seems like a lot of people use a number of pedals to get swells. And looking for a cheaper; alternative. But still get the same sound.
i tend to think a cheap delay would be your best bet...but i dunno. :) high mix and such.
Hi i have a question whats the specific name of that thin patch cable?thanks
They are George L’s cables!
If I get one of hese I can play that "Big Country" song I've always wanted to play.
Is the dry signal also "frozen?" meaning if the effect level is set to off, will the dry signal be sustained?
nicely done.... NYC PEDALS !! kicks asss!!
i have this pedal but the output is not working i there anyway i can use this pedal just with send or return?
+Fallinldols I don't think so...maybe send it back to them for repair?
This is a great review! Thanks -)
glad to be helpful!
Cna you add an expression pedal to control transitions?
I don't remember....I don't think so, but that'd be a good thing to look up the manual for.
You should demo the TWA Great Divide 2.0
Nice Vid! Is the other effectpedal in the loop (send & return) only tu use, if the superego is activ? Or is it possilble to use them even the superego is off? sorry ma english... :-)

Reminds me of a Pedal Steel guitar or a set of bagpipes :P
nice demo
thank you, sir.

Thanks thanks thanks thanks for this demo :)
hey man, awesome video!
what cables are you using in the send/return?
cheers!
thanks! those are George L's patch cables.
Where does the send and return channel go to?
Whatever pedal or pedals you want! They’re optional.
THANKS DUDE'' COOL VID''' LOOKING TO GET THIS PEDAL'' GREAT JOB DEMO'''
and thank you!
Nice, thank you.
Good demo, but many EH pedals sound cool at first, but after a while you realize how coldly synthetic and digital they sound (though the Memory Man + Hazarai is great).

George L's!

"Spirit of Radio" progression at 3:00!!
is that a band or a song? haha.
Thanks bro!
Not for me, but thanks for the considered demo!
+Joseph Suratt I believe it is, yeah. You could probably get around that if you bought something from this1smyne -- I think he makes boxes that will let an effect effectively send to 2 different places. Could be worth looking into if you're interested!
Follow your gliss
Haha
The sound is really annoying or the way it's played.
This guy sounds like he could be louis cks brother 😮
If you only knew how many times people have said that...haha.
I'm actually really disappointed by this thing. It's really nothing more than a freeze pedal, with a pitch shifter involved.
The Subdecay Octasynth seems like a much cooler pedal.

7:03 was creepy as hell
thank you? haha. :)
Illuminati?
I noticed that too. Just... why?!
tristianos
Yeah, it's weird. Maybe just cause it looks cool?
Ryan Kiesshauer
Sorry friend! But as a Christian and someone who researches a LOT into this kind of thing, for me it definitely isnt cool to have this on there... so much so that it has probably compromised the purchase! Im kind of extreme like that but I dont want any association with the darkness at all.

It's not really a great review if you combine it with another pedal, man!
but how else could you illustrate the lovely effects loop in action?!
2:28
Just get guitar rig!
it'd be cool if we heard something besides a g chord
Really confusing in my opinion.
man sure is crazy how much talking there is in this.
+Richard Wynne I like explaining things. :)
Unless this was earlier Kraftwerk..no..useless
I wish @ElectroHarmonix would dress up these pedals a little better they always look so cheap looking for $219 dollars give it paint job instead of slapping a sticker on top
this pedal is for people who smoke marihuana or hallucigenic drugs. They usually have very worn out guitars.
Bla bla blablabla blaaaaa
Yawn...
Stop talking and let us hear the device, please!!!
this pedal sucks dont buy
Lol k
Was really disappointed with this pedal.
Why ?
less talking: more playing bro. jesus
You probably need to find another channel -- I like explaining things.
to be fair, I have not watched every demo of every pedal,
but, this is the dullest i have seen so far.
I was looking to buy this, but now I'm not so excited
wayyy too much yappin'.....peoole want to hear the sounds man 😟😞
