I got my first Electro-Harmonix pedal in 1982 (1970s Small Stone for $30). This is by far the best EHX demo I've ever seen in store, online, or anywhere else. Fabulous playing!
Bought one today, played with it in Guitar Center for about 15 minutes before dropping the $230 down to own it, it sounded so bad ass that a small crowd had gathered around me wondering what the hell I was using. The Deep Purple, Beatles, Doors and Led Zeppelin tones are dead on! Great for clearly played notes and chords., not for shredding on lead solos or punk and thrasher metal.
Simply amazing playing by Bill Ruppert. It is not easy playing a guitar and making it sound like an organ, even with a fabulous pedal like this or the B9. You have to completely restructure your chords and melodies. Impressive.
It is an amazing specialty pedal... But I am not fooled.... You are an extremely good player and the material you are playing is making that thing shine WAY more than most of us could.
00DirectorsCut00 Basically the same principle, emulating the sound of an organ, but the presets are slightly different on the C9. Check out the demo of the B9 and compare ;)
That third sound --- like a Farfisa or a Vox --- would be good for a guitarist who always envied Ray Manzarek of The Doors. He died at the age of 74 in 2013, I think.
🍻🍺🍻 250 bucks , not cheap but a lot of fun playing through this , please lets us know how is it, i am planing to buy this and the strings one very soon, i am saving, greetings
@@Toxodeth1984 I have one and it's fun to play around with. I've also made a playlist of songs that have the organ sound (aside from the examples in this video). The idea is to finger the chords like an organ player would.
This pedal is my secret weapon for my clean sounds. I have it on the Mello Flutes setting w/ the organ mix around 9-10 o'clock in front of a reverb and when it rings out you hear the organ swell in. It's so magical
8 years old and this video still gets comments...just shows how great the demo is! I picked up the C9 a few weeks ago after watching this video. Long, long way to go before I sound like Bill Ruppert.
Where was this stuff back in the 60's 70's 80's 90's and the first ten years of the 2000's ?!?!? It's so awesome I can't get over this and the B9 units!!!
I have the , key 9 , the Mel 9 , and the B9 For home recording they are an absolute game changer Thanks Guys I think the Synth 9 will be next , cheers.
Just ordered this for my Dad for Christmas from Sweetwater. His Mother played the organ, so I hope this will evoke some memories and inspire him to create some new music!! If he doesn't like it I'll gladly take it! Haha. Looks like tons of creative fun
I have one of these. It works pretty well, but you really need a compressor along with it to even out the volume. At least I do. The volume can really jump up and down at times.
A great trick if your dynamic playing is all over the place , is to turn the pedal down volume wise and it will force you to play harder and more even or at the peak of the pedals output. Of course a comp will help. We did add a comp to the other 9s.
EHX was really clever with the puns they used for some of the names of the sounds. 'Lord Purple' is a nice nod to Jon's epic Hammond tone with the Purple. Blimp... Led Zeppelin perhaps? Well, I loved JPJ's organ sound on 'Your Time Is Gonna Come' so that one is cool. The name for the church organ sound in 'Let It Be' threw me a little. The EHX demo video shows a photo of Beatles Paul seated at an organ. I thought that was funny since Billy Preston played that session. Then it hit me... Preston? Press Tone! BRILLIANT. So, am I the first person to get this clever pun?
the Mellotron sound is incredible! I saw that he plays guitar as he would play organ, that needs to be a very good guitarist to use it totally (very probably),playing accords and melodies in the same time. This demonstrator is a god when he plays.very strong!
struggled for decades to create that Leslie organ sound using flanger and chorus delay and reverb AND yes, moving the volume low to high. 20 years ago almost converted my LPC to midi?? finally
I fancy myself as EHX's biggest fan. They build stuff that is so much fun to play with yet, this stuff can be a life saver. If your keyboard player doesn't show up, you can get by for an intro or as another layer in the mix. The fact that they keep the prices competitive in a greedy world speaks volumes about them.
Best product demo I can imagine! Loved that you chose the Doors to showcase the 60's sound... And Deep Purple for the lord Purple. Your skills are off the charts!
COMBINE THE B9 AND THE C9 IN ONE PEDAL !!! You put digital control knobs so that you can program and save your custom banks of tones. You add one footswitch to go up the banks, one footswitch to go down the banks, and one jack input for a standard expression pedal to control the rotary (or whichever other parameter which one should obviously control with an expression pedal). And you have it ! The ultimate "must have" Organ Machine for guitarists.
This is why they offer BOTH units so they can make enourmous profits as some will most like just purchase just the B9 or C9 units. But yeah, i feel you it would be a novel idea if they "should" offer a unit such as this for our MultiEffects Unit pedal board daisy chain layout.
Bill your skills in EHX products , persuaded me to buy my Mel 9, and since then I’m hooked on EHX for FX pedals from now on! Thanks to to you and EHX NYC
The skills of the person demonstrating these pedals is so very skilled, I should not kid myself I could achieve such sounds. Fun toys, I'm afraid to look and see the cost. I was just looking to see if I could get some distorted b3 tones to play some southern rock keyboard parts. It's so cool the options available.
This demo was done almost 5 years ago, but what a great demonstration! Just perfect song fragments to demo the presets. I like your fat Strat frets too.
I have the B9 on my board, and it's sensationally inspirational. This just seems to be another level again. Electro-Harmonix, you've realised a dream I've had for effects this good that I've had ever since I started playing guitar 25 years ago. These will go down as classic pedals, mark my words. Sensational!
I've acquired one recently to use predominantly for recording purposes, and it is a very convincing pedal. I'll be damned if anyone will be able to tell the difference on tape. Going into a real mic'd Plexi (lower gain settings) and it sounds amazing, but it really, really benefits from a compressor pedal behind it or in front of it; I prefer it behind it, but either way can work. It's a very dynamic pedal, reacts to string attack, but put a compressor in the chain and it's perfect, cleans up very nicely. Love it.
This is an awesome pedal, I've had one for about a year....brilliant! I have sent EHX a suggestion for a horn section pedal...could you imagine being able to put sax or trumpet with your guitar, or use the full horn section.....c'mon EHX!
I'm not a guitarist BUT as a keyboardist I used to use a Yamaha TX802 midi module back in the 1980's. It was capable of frequency priority ie. You could set up a patch of 4 voices say, all with saxes brass of your choice and label them with harmonic priority ie. valve trombone on lowest voice then Tenor sax above it. Flugel horn above that and alto sax on top. With 8 mono assignable audio outs you could have the horns each going to sep audio channels. That module was basically an 8 part multi-timbral version of the Yamaha DX7II. There are bound to be gadgets today that can achieve similar things. You'd need a midi gtr to drive it of course.
Check out the Mel9 tape replay pedal. It's an another pedal from the 9 series and contains mellotron sounds. Mellotrons are basically the worlds first sample based keyboard and use tapes to play back samples when a key is pressed. Most often these samples would be orchestral sounds, such as String Orchestras, String quartets, Solo strings, woodwinds (such as on Strawberry fields forever by The Beatles, or Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin), but also brass (as well as choirs too). EHX came up with the Mel9, which basically puts these mellotron sounds into a guitar pedal, which is polyphonic and controlled by the guitar. The Mel9 has a Brass setting, which can be adjusted to have the dynamics of horns. Ironically it even comes with a Saxophone sound (which is weird for a mellotron, since I don't think saxes were used with a mellotron, since saxes are pretty small and affordable, and the whole idea of the tron was to harness the power of large string, choir and brass ensembles and compact it into a keyboard) but it does have a rather decent, proggy Sax sound. I own one and it's honestly an amazing pedal. The only downside is it's pretty expensive, however I don't think it's any more expensive than the B9 or C9 or any other 9 series pedals. Absolutely worth the money though, and it really opens up your palette as a guitar player, considering that the original mellotron itself is nowadays (ironically) as accessible as an actual orchestra, meaning it's hard to get one (besides the mellotron was an absolute pain in the ass, and this pedal literally recreates only the positive aspects of the mellotron. The original Mellotrons where awkward, clunky and broke often and a general pain in the ass to maintain. This pedal renders the original mellotron useless, essentially replacing it). Try it. I will leave a link to the video of it under the comment. ruclips.net/video/MiTHc8d9D20/видео.html
It is going to take me WEEKS to put all of my brain back into my head after scraping and collecting it off the walls. This pedal is simply not possible. I am being PUNKED, right? My ears look like over-baked cornchips. My jaw went through the floor. I'll never find it. I can't stop weeping and laughing at the same time. No, this pedal only exists in theory. Little green men are FAR more likely. I am done making music. I am going to make lovely clay pottery. Yes, that's it. Lovely clay pottery.
OMG LOL!!! thank you! I laughed for 2 minutes straight while trying to read this comment. And yes, this pedal is pretty flipping awesome. My bank account can't handle all the cool gear on my list. This one is probably going to the top.
i purchased my C9 on Monday and have not fired it up yet.. did not even try it at the store... so reading things like this, hilariously give me hope i made the right call!
Although I’m not the greatest guitarist but I’m able to get the cello w my B-9 pedal when playing Yesterday, just have to play the main descending cello parts and I sing at the same time it sounds great. I wouldn’t play the song without the cello sounds.
There should be a EHX Blade+B9+C9 pedal, where you can pan any of the 18 sounds to either left or right wet output, or simply have all of them in one place.
Incredible. I was thinking of getting the Mel9 but now maybe I'll get this! Update: Now I have it. Add some delay to the Shimmer and the Mello Flutes gives great results for ambient guitar - love it.
Who's the demonstrator? He is very good.
Bill Ruppert
EHX
well, what about an octave pedal before the organ machine? Will it work?
It's Bill Ruppert. The credits are at the end of the video
mehabox anything can "work" although I am not sure why you would need one as an organ's sound is made up of upper and lower octaves.
mehabox yes, i use the whammy kinda like the same way. Even better if you add chorus
Bill Ruppert, your fantastic guitar work on this demo has sold a lot units. I hope you're getting a percentage of sales!
According to Wiki, Bill was one of the principle designers of the C9 pedal (also B9/Key9/Mel9/Synth9/Bass9), so hopefully is suitably rewarded.
It takes a certain level of virtuosity to make one instrument sound exactly like another. This guy is wayyyyy beyond that.
I know!
Bill Ruppert is God
Haha yeah! You're absolutely correct 👏
If you folks ever come across Bill’s album w’ a 1980’s band, “Software”’s self-titled, 1 vinyl release, grab it.
True he needs no pedal
Amazing demo. That Light my fire solo was spot on !
Mine broke after a few years. Sent it to EHX with a $25 check. A week later it came back in working order. No problems.
I got my first Electro-Harmonix pedal in 1982 (1970s Small Stone for $30).
This is by far the best EHX demo I've ever seen in store, online, or anywhere else. Fabulous playing!
THANK YOU!!
Bill
I think Ray Manzarek would approve that brilliant interpretation of "light my fire" 🔥🔥🔥

Kudos to Bill Ruppert, the guitar player here. Outstanding job figuring out all those changes on a bunch of classic tunes. Great sounding gizmo too !!
The Spencer Davis bit was freaking sweet.
andrewt248 Lake Emerson Palmer too!
My wife and son gave me one of these for Christmas. I'm having a ball with it. It really sounds this good, just like the demo. It's amazing!
oohh nooo, you didn't! not just after I bought a B9, damnit!
Know what you feel bro'
Ugh- same here...although every pedal these guys put out im like- ooooh- i want that!
Glad I waited long enough to see this one appear. Sorry for you guy, but hey the B9 is great !

I just ordered my C9. Now comes the long, wonderful process of learning how to make it sound like this! ❤

Amazing pedals but...What a player!!!! I'm sure this product is made all the better by being in such capable hands.

this has got to be the most original pedal to come out in a long time
Oh Jon Lord! Gotta get one!
This guy is worth the money. Brillant! Give him a raise.
I have the , key 9 , the Mel 9 , and the B9
For home recording they are an absolute game changer
Thanks Guys
I think the Synth 9 will be next , cheers.
Played this recently with a cover band, first time I've ever had the perfect organ tones I needed.
Just ordered this for my Dad for Christmas from Sweetwater. His Mother played the organ, so I hope this will evoke some memories and inspire him to create some new music!! If he doesn't like it I'll gladly take it! Haha. Looks like tons of creative fun

You must be right about Press Tone but John is the one at the keys but it is not an organ it was a mellotron that he and I think Paul both played.
I keep listening to this video for it's entertainment and artistic value!!!
Pretty cool. Props to the guitarist. Nice chops
The demonstrator is totally killer! So skilled!! Wow!
Pedal is amazing, but your playing is even BETTER!
What a fantastic Guitarist.
Yeah Bill Rupert is amazing. I love his videos. He does a great job of clearly explaining things, too.

Fkn hell, electro harmonix are something else. A whole other level.
I want the B9,C9,K9,Mel9, all in a rackmount or a larger pedal that has midi and all those presets!
These pedals are the closest things to magic I've ever seen. It's just such a clean conversion from guitar to organ. Wizards, the lot of ya.
Magic
If you are in a classic rock cover band you NEED one of these!

Buy for sure you want this, yes? Force strong is but suspect I do wallet not big is.
Been fiending over five years to test drive one of these...it should be here tomorrow.
Bill makes every EHX pedal sound incredible, the perfect guy to play anything needed!
Best product demo I can imagine! Loved that you chose the Doors to showcase the 60's sound... And Deep Purple for the lord Purple. Your skills are off the charts!
I got mine C9 few days ago, and oh god im loving it. With Cathedral, Freeze and wah wah you can make incredible sounds.
Wow... I don't have a guitar.. but want one now... then get the effect and start playing... this was a dream when I was a kid.
I bought the B9 a few months back and absolutely love it. The C9 sounds just as cool just different. Good work EHX.
2:38 Reason enough to buy this pedal.
Wow. 45+ years of playing and I'd never even known this was a thing. Absolutely amazing.
well, in your defense, it just became a decent thing over the last few years... so, you're still good. 👍

this thing is really great! and bill ruppert is outstanding. no one uses pedals the way he does. he's a genius...
Just got mine and love it. Wish there were tabs for everything in this video.
I never knew how much I needed a pedal like this until now...
the mello flute option was very calm and cute. such a nice sound to listen to!
You folks at EHX never cease to amaze, incredible!
Bill your skills in EHX products , persuaded me to buy my Mel 9, and since then I’m hooked on EHX for FX pedals from now on!
Thanks to to you and EHX NYC
I've had mine now for about a year. I use it at every gig. Absolutely love this pedal.
Wow! things have come a long way since I had my first EHX effect in 1972 - the LPB-1, with the male plug sticking out one end. Excellent demo!
I'm a drummer percussionist and I think these effect pedals are absolutely amazing!!
Practice makes perfect.
I just got one off ebay for $150
Just got this - it's totally awesome. Soloing over the shimmer sound through a looper - best sound I've heard for ages out of my guitar.
Absolutely amazing playing, for sure the pedal have a really close sound, but your playing is very accurate
I just got a B9 and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. Now I need to save up for a C9. Thanks.
Bill, what an outstanding demo! You are a master!
This thing really nails all those 60s organ sounds I've always loved (Doors, Animals, Strawberry Alarm Clock, etc...). Think I have to have it!!
This demo was done almost 5 years ago, but what a great demonstration! Just perfect song fragments to demo the presets. I like your fat Strat frets too.
Half the reason I’m buying this is just to play light my fire
This is ridiculously cool
No way around it, I'm impressed. Wow.
5:20 This whole section is awesome. Sounds like something amazing is going to happen.

Thanks so much for making these wonderful things.
Bill Ruppert could plug a guitar into a toaster and make you want to go out and buy it!!! I wish he would go on tour doing pedal demos!
Wow! Mind blown! Sounds fantastic! Love the Zepplin and Deep Purple sounds.
As someone else already noted, this pedal would be even more amazing if one could use an expression pedal with it!
It's amazing what technology has allowed us to do with the guitar.
That's true ! Guitarist in the 60's would love this pedal damn and so do i
I wanted to add a keyboard player to my band UNTIL I heard THIS THING! .... I FRICKIN' LOVE IT!
Never mind the pedals Bill is a great player. Thanks for the show
FANTASTIC - BOTH THE B/C9 & THE GUITAR PLAYER...!
I knew light my fire was going to be played.
HOLY CRAP that "Lord Purple" setting is AMAZING! OMFG YES!!!! I'm hearing Steven Stills level tones!

Thanks!

Bill is Da MAN when it comes to EHX product demos. I hope they're lining his music room with money.

Mr. Bill Ruppert, you're a genius! I can't tell you how much I enjoy your always brilliant videos. Thank you very much!!!
Good grief, I want it because it CAN make those sounds, but I doubt *I* can make them! Great vid, Mr. Rupert!
Kudos for playing keyboard parts on your guitar! And yes, Light My Fire was the highlight.
Your playing is amazing, makes me want to get this just for the Doors lick!! lol
Although I’m not the greatest guitarist but I’m able to get the cello w my B-9 pedal when playing Yesterday, just have to play the main descending cello parts and I sing at the same time it sounds great. I wouldn’t play the song without the cello sounds.
What the hell did I just watch?!?! That was utterly mind blowing! Speechless. Thanks for that!
I’m pretty impressed with how this makes the guitar actually sound like an organ. It’s not hokey sounding at all.
Can't wait to combine this with the Trio +, that way I can hopefully have bass, drums and then loop organ parts and guitar parts looped to jam with!
That'd be pretty badass
The Son loves this pedal! Thank you Electro Harmonix!!
Definitely up there with the coolest pedals - song choices on point too!
