I'm sure it hasn't escaped you that Pinion is now pretty close to being able to deliver regenerative braking with the MGU. Also, would you do a program that ties into max rider watts or heart rate. I use my emtb for doing Zone 2 work and it would be great if that could be done in software rather than me having to constantly monitor it. Thanks
amazing idea with regenerative breaking and Zone 2 hart rate. I would also add an electronic engine lock - which could be used when we go for 5-10 min shopping or for a coffee somewhere in the city.
Lifetime Aline 8 user here: This MGU will be a game changer to all urban bikes: a) extending a typical cycling commuter radius (when choosing your next bike) b) while taking out hilly route with less worries of holding traffic back / overtaking traffic uphill! c) while enjoying a good workout on flats or downhill (if MGU can switch off power assist and remove it motor noise) d) while maintaining center of mass (control & comfort) e.g. potholes
@@PinionChannel I understand you - but I agree with @sonnyDarvishzadeh - it would be another competitive advantage as RANGE is the key parameter of E-bikes
Mine was all going really well until it failed yesterday with a shift fault that wont calibrate. Tried everything. Nicolai has said they will call me back in the next few days which isn’t great either. It says i have to ease pressure on the pedals but there isn’t any pressure on them. Not a good start unfortunately. Hopefully this will get sorted ASAP and i can ride my bike again.
We're really sorry to hear about the issue with your bike. We're sure Nicolai will reach out to you soon. Thank you for your patience - Please let us know how it went.
Questions: What is the IPX rating of the motor and is it possible to do a software update when needed (by the customer). What about overload, heat when it runs in it's highest mode during hot weather?
Thanks for your questions! The Pinion MGU has an IPX7 rating for water resistance. Software updates can only be done by a professional/local bikeshop. For heat management, the MGU has 3 temperature sensors (motor, board, battery) and a smart system that adjusts power early to prevent overheating. Overall, it handles heat and performance very well.
Fantastic system and very typically German presentation, loved it. For now this is extremely cost prohibitive but I'm sure you'll still sell lots of bikes. Comparing this to the engineering that goes into even simple motorcycles and the price for the system looks completely mad but I'm sure the Chinese manufacturers will take care of that in a few years.
That is not good, you really screwed a lot of people... plus I really hate dedicated frames to only one piece of equipment!!! I am going to have to say no thanks then...
@@SolarizeYourLife You can't compare apples with pears. One is a complete drive system integrated into E-bikes, combining a 12-speed gearbox with a motor, along with sensors, electronics, matching batteries, HMI, and displays. The other is our basic or classic gearbox technology, a gearbox for traditional bicycles, where the frame is not designed for those e-bike components. Even if you use an E-bike with a Pinion gearbox and hub motor, the bicycle is originally designed for a different drive concept by the bike manufacturer. Using the same mounting structure for our MGU would have posed only disadvantages in its design. This allowed us to optimize and streamline the MGU, ensuring a perfect fit within the silhouette of a modern E-bike.

I am disappointed you can not use current pinion bikes add MGU to, you sadly need a completely new bike frame for it!!! Not a good move on pinions part...
The first rollout of the MGU e-bikes is in Europe, so we have to adhere to European regulations; otherwise, our bikes wouldn't be allowed to operate here. Let's see what is in store for other markets.

I understand that this system has more potential, but why would you need 2000W on a bicycle? What’s the use other than going crazy fast? For that you have e-bikes or motorbikes. Do you think on terrain like in the video would be any use of 2000W?

Yes you cam turn the motor assist off at any time.
does the fit system have a tracking system / motor blocking system in case of theft
amazing idea!!
How is the motor noise, is it loud? There have been mixed reports from emtb reviews. Be good to see/here it in action- without music. Thanks
Which has lowest (easiest) gear, the pinion mgu or rohloff?
Now that everything is neatly packed in one place, do you think regenerative braking could be incorporated as well?
We're working on a lot of topics, it may be possible, but unfortunately this is not our priority.

No it has a different mounting, because it's a completely new system with different dimensions.

mid-motor bicycles, not mid-engine! A engine runs on gasoline or other .
