    Thanks for the excellent Pinion factory tour. I ride a Priority 600X with a Gates belt drive and a Pinion C1.12 gearbox. I have been riding for over 56 years now. And so many different bikes. My 600X with the Pinion has become my daily rider and also my go-to bikepacking bike. All of the rest of my bikes are jealous because the 600X "Rubber Band" gets ridden the most. Thanks again for the inside look at Pinion. 🤓

    Well done! I was sold on the Pinion gearbox and purchased my bicycle before viewing this video and am very happy I make the decision to do so. That 3 gear model from 1936 is a remarkable achievement and such an advancement for it's day. Outstanding! While the derailleur drive-train is time tested and less money, it just doesn't have all the advantages of a sealed system. It seems to be a durable and if you will, a bulletproof system that is a huge leap forward. In my humble opinion, the increase in weight and cost are justified for those wanting "THE BEST",

    Tristan & Belén, you guys are absolutely killing it 👏🏼 before watching this video I was sooooo excited to test the pinion gearbox next week with my wife..but now?! Holy crap I’m EXPLODING from excitement 😍 I cannot wait to get my hands on one! I thought the questions you asked Dirk were really important and informative, so thank you very much for the work that went into making these videos! When you asked Dirk about the process if something needs to be checked/fixed on the gearbox, it made me wonder how long the turn around time would be (approximately) if you had to send in the gearbox? 🤔 I have a feeling once I order my bike with the gearbox I’ll never go back to a derailleur 🙈

    • @tristanbogaard
      @tristanbogaard  2 года назад

      You definitely won't go back to a derailleur! I can say so myself after not even a year with this bike, and I'm starting to forget what derailleurs even are. As for the turnaround time, this will probably depend on each individual case but knowing Pinion, it should be pretty fast and professional.

    Hi Tristan. Great video! My C1.12 Pinion gearbox has begun to develop a strange fault, in that it sometimes take a quarter of a pedal turn (or more, nearly half a turn) for the crank to engage with the gearbox. Any idea how to fix this? I'm based in the UK, with no Pinion service centre nearby... Quite separately, I've discovered that my H2r pinion rear hub leaks some of its grease, causing the freehub system to become noisy with time: it can be quietened with fresh grease, but then the grease slowly comes out again! Have you come across this, and would you know how to fix it? Thanks!

    Thank you for your video. Very interesting for me as bike mechanic. I do have a few questions I wonder if you know the answers to, which I don't find on the Pinion website. 1) Is the gear shift indexing done at the shifter or the gearbox? Gearbox would seem more reliable because it takes cable tension out of the equation. 2) Are the gear steps all really the same (eg, 17.7% for the 12-speed)? It seems this would be a hard arithmetic problem when multiplying the 4 gear ratios from stage 1 by the 3 ratios from stage 2. Even the most evenly spaced internally geared hubs from Shimano or Rohloff don't have the exact same steps throughout their range! If so, how did they achieve this? This may be a trade secret, or maybe just a tooth-counting exercise! Thank you.

So I sent my oil in for testing and found it was 75-80w. This type of oil can be purchased cheaply from any auto parts store and does not need to come from Pinion directly. Mmm nice video but…. What if…. And then you wait… two three four or ??? You have to send your gearbox to the fabric and you are in Kyrgyzstan your journey is over. Or at least for a month. That’s how long it takes before you get your gearbox back. I think the Pinion and the Rohloff systems are the best but only in Europe and the states. If going to Azië I prefer my old cassette and bring some spare parts. It is a gamble that you take that can cost you a hell of a time. And if you have to stay somewhere for a month you will end in a hotel and all the costs that will bring it. Okay maybe I see some bears on the road but you have to keep that in mind.
