Wow, first I heard Ms. Hong sing! A friend of hers mentioned her, and I said I'd look her up on RUclips. Without RUclips, so many artists go unheralded! She is amazing! Not sure why I was not introduced to her during my college studies in the 1980s.
I heard Hong sing Mimi at the Met back in the 80s and went back several times just to hear her again. She is a consummate artist. She had a way of singing Donde lieta that stopped time.
A truly superb performance by two truly superb artists. Brought tears to my eyes, particularly when I learned Jerry has left us and we’ll never be able to see him again, except in videos like this.
Jerry Hadley really had a BEAUTIFUL voice! You can feel his passion and humor!This was also one of the best performances of BOTH Che Gelida Manina and O Soave Fanciulla I've ever heard! Hei-Kyung Hong has an incredible voice and is beautiful also! BRAVOOOOOOO!
it was a great performance, by two superstars!!,but at the end,miss hong hit a high C, and mr hadley did not, but not taking anything away from them, perhaps, thats the way, they wanted to end che gelinda manina. a superb performance. listen to mario lanzas rendition, with i believe kathreen grayson (not sure), when they both hit high Cs at the end, it was electrifying!!! please note! not taking anything away from ms hong, or mr hadley!!! che gelinda manina, is a very difficult aria to sing!!! everything has to come into sync!!! god bless all of them, for there gift that they gave the world!!! and god bless jerry hadley, may he rest in peace,to be with the lord. I now see how gracious the reviewer was to include such a lovely voice as her's, with a young singer as myself. That disarming smile, and that voice....Hadley was just amazing. Only wish I had sung with him.

This is getting into the weeds of vocal technique but I feel that Hadley managed the passagio better than Pavarotti. What Pavarotti did worked, no question, but Hadley was so smooth through the whole range. You couldn't miss when Pavarotti was negotiating the passagio

I think I see what you are getting at - Pavarotti is a little more constricted through the passagio whilst Hadley is more fundamentally rounded.
