  • A detailed and up to date history of the Honda S2000.
    Taking you right the way from the prototype that started it all through the record breaking engine, the many changes in the 2004 facelift, right the way to the end of production and what the future has in store for the Honda Roadster.
    NOTES/REVISIONS/CORRECTIONS
    Honda actually made 3 special edition S2000s for the Japanese Domestic Market. The little known about Gioire Edition was introduced in 2002 and featured a tan interior with a two tone steering wheel and cross stitched seats. Chrome wing mirrors, special gold BBS alloy wheels and was available in just two colours; Royal Navy Blue Pearl and Dark Red Pearl, both of which had gold pin-striping.
    There also was a Special Edition S2000 released in 2006 exclusively for the French, Italian and Spanish markets. The S2000 RJ edition was available only in pearl white and it came with a hard top and a black or black and red leather interior. What made this special edition so special was that the top of each RJ’s audio head cover was hand signed by both of the Honda Formula 1 Team’s drivers at the time, Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button. And this is where the name of the car is derived from, the initial of each drivers first name, R & J. This special edition was limited to just 50 units and of course the car included a special plaque with the car’s production number down the centre console.
    ------------------
    I apologise for the fading writing towards the end of the video, my pen was running out of ink and I didn't have a spare. The only upside to this is that I proceeded to anger purchase 40 black white board pens so I am now financially invested in making these videos for the foreseeable future.

    Thank you for making this well researched and comprehensive history of the s2000. I am a life S2000 owner and, God Willing, will always have one in my garage. The AP1 and Club Racer trim are the purest s2000 driving experiences. The CR provides wonderful a mechanical sounds in the cabin due to less sound deadening by Honda and it combines the quicker steering ratio of the AP1. Thank you Shigeru Uehara for this amazing creation! Now I shall go and take my S2000 for a drive.

    One of the best (if not the best) S2000 overview I’ve watched. Surprised by the low view count but I imagine it’ll exponentially increase with time as low mileage stock examples are becoming harder to find. Thanks for the great vid. And yes, I ran off to confirm my car was made at Tochigi plant 😊

    Thank You for a very enjoyable video of a great sports car. I own a totally stock 2003 (AP1) car which I consider the pinnacle of S2000s. I know most reserve that honor for the CR version, however I wanted the AP1 with the 9,000 rpm engine and the quicker steering rack that was discarded by Honda with the AP2 models in the US and only reappeared on the CR model. If only they had brought back the AP1 motor also.

      Thanks for watching and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! And congratulations on owning such an awesome car. The AP1 is a wonderful car and I imagine many people would agree with your sentiment as it's arguably the purest translation of what Honda intended when they produced the Sports Study Model Prototype, both mechanically and aesthetically. With that being said I do very much believe that the Facelift/AP2 revisions were very important to the longevity of the S2000 and also makes for an excellent, albeit different driving experience.

      @@AveragetoPoor I think you are correct. Although I do not really want to modify my car, I think it would be interesting to try a set of the larger tires and wheels from the AP2 cars, however I would keep the stabilizer bars that came with the car. As for styling I cant really decide which one I prefer, probably the AP1 but then I am somewhat prejudiced!

    You are the kind of guy who really deserve some s2000.
    Still some facts are wrong. My 02 Ap1 has xenon headlights and washing system. I think all European Ap1's have it.
    Also on qt mile stock ones do 14.0 / 14.2 as you can see in this Best Motoring vid :

    Way too heavy. The weight distribution is terrible. 38/62 is optimal. Most inertia on the drive wheels under acceleration. Equal balance on braking when the inertia goes forward. Rookie narrator reading a script.

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 2 года назад +2

      Uhm when breaking the weight shifts to the front which brings it even closer to 50/50 … or even puts more weight to the front for more grip on the front tires. I don’t know if you have ever driven a S2000 but it’s almost perfect in corners and weight distribution can be managed very well with the breaks. It’s a very different driving feeling to a Elise but the weight distribution is perfect for this car with the amount of power/chassis/suspension and layout. Of course a 911 with 50/50 weight distribution is not good because it does not match the car’s layout. If you haven’t driven one, give it a try, there is probably no car which is more fun to drive at this price except a lotus elise. (Which is more expensive too)

    • @daveblock1688
      @daveblock1688 2 года назад

      @@binskee677 So many people incorrectly believe 50/50 is perfect, it is perfectly wrong. Front-mid is still a bit too far forward S2000), rear too far back. Unsurprising mid-engine is perfect ala Formula One (Elise, NSX etc). I have not driven an S2000 but have much respect for them. Nothing like revving into the 8000s like that and my 2ZZ.

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 2 года назад

      @@daveblock1688 but there is no such thing as a perfect weight distribution, you just have to drive the corners differently depending on the car. Although from my personal experience and preference, a close 50/50 split feels the most neutral and predicatable to drive. I guess like everything else it is up to personal preferences. But let me know if i am wrong or if you have good sources to get more infos, happy to learn more about weigt distribution.

    • @daveblock1688

      @@binskee677 Refer to Formula 1 cars.

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 2 года назад

      @@daveblock1688 F1's have a slightly rear biased 50/50 weight distribution (45.5 - 46.7% on the front axle and 53.3-54.5 on the rear) same as the S2000 which is a bit more closer to the 50/50. But F1 cars drive in a different evironment, with different power outputs, HP, drag and downforce, so imo can't be compared.
