4 Levels of Chips & Guacamole: Amateur to Food Scientist
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2021
- We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Jerry, home cook Daniel, and professional chef Saul Montiel from Cantina Rooftop - to whip us up a fresh batch of tortilla chips and guacamole. Once each level of chef had presented their creation, we asked expert food scientist Rose to explain the choices they made along the way - both good and bad. Which guac are you putting on lock?

Daniel: “I’m adding white beans to my guacamole.”
Epicurious: “Daniel, we are demoting you back to Level 1 chef.”
Totally not me reading: "Guacamole, we are demoting you back to Level 1 chef."
He already has that episode where he added jam to a grilled cheese. If he wasn't demoted then he's not going to be demoted now.

"Guacamole cabron!"
-Chef Saul
I love how Chef Saul is secretly judging and also defending Daniel at the same time.
"Normally I would use my hands, but we are in America. We make everything easier here." As he proceeds to take an extra step to juice a lime. I died when I heard this, amazing.
me too!!!! lol!
"Why have chips when you can have chicharrones?"
- Saul, probably.
It's pork in chip form!
@@Toidal agreed, and just as addictive! (If not more)
is he wrong?
Glad to know I am not the only one that puts guacamole on my chicharron!
Actually, in Mexico we put guacamole in most any food, from totopos (what you guys call "tortilla chips"), chicharrón (pork rind), tacos, enchiladas, chilaquiles, as a side for grilled meat, even hotdogs and burgers.

Yo can y'all add a Chef Saul playlist to the channel. I have to watch every video with this guy.
Chef Saul needs to do a Mexican basics. Love his upscale stuff, but the “lesser” chefs/cooks don’t even get the basics right
I would so watch that!
We got to protect Saul at all costs, no matter what
True! He and Frank should be treated like the pres and vp. Never at the same place at the same time. All of it
Ok, we all know that Saul is a level 3 chef, but in this video his guacamole just screams "I am on a whole another dimension". That explains why he was so confident right from the beginning.
It can be easy to forget how good he is because he's got such a friendly personality, but my sense from watching the ingredient swap videos is that he's the best improviser of anyone on this channel. Truly talented guy.
As a Mexican, I'm skipping level 2 altogether. I mean, live your life but I opt out of it.
Saul just... intrigues me. That guacamole must taste really fresh
If I wanted a fruit salad, I would have ordered a fruit salad.

8:53 Saul: "Let's begin with our Mexican blender" made my whole day lmao
I’m Mexican. I’d totally eat Jerry’s guac but not Daniel’s because of the type of avocado he used AND THE FRIJOLES 😩
There’s not question about chef Saul’s guac. He’s a paisano🇲🇽
To be fair that was probably because Daniel used up all his raisins in the potato salad. I was shaking my head through most of his participation on this show, but this one took the cake.

I have been to Cantina Rooftop for my bachelorette party. The food and drinks are so good. It took me a minute to realize Saul works at Cantina. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in NYC. Just make reservations. Definitely want to come here again for my birthday.
Saul's energy is everything. I can't believe I've been wasting literal years of my life removing avocado pits with a knife.
Saul--and the mandolin. Too hilarious "It's crazy, but I'm a professional... I'm a professional." So the fear never goes away. BTW, love the pomegrante in there.
😂😂 Good to know
Also, i think he quoted the movie Man on Fire. When denzel says: I'm a professional, I'm a professional, everybody keeps saying that.
I hope that's the case so extra points for being a man a culture our good Saul
8:19 Saul popping out that avocado stone like that.... **mind blown** so pog

Saul is squeezing all the fruits and vegs in that guac. I ain’t mad. The chicharron makes it a decadent/healthy snack
I NEED to try Saul's Guacamole.
I'm Mexican, 90% of my dishes include beans, but in the Guac?
Daniel sorry, but it's a no go for me.
It makes my day better seeing Saul and Daniel cook.
I did not expect Saul to just pick up that whole thing! That’s amazing!
I like how its like "Hi, I'm a level 1 chef" "Hi, I'm a level 2 chef", and then it's just "I have been cooking for 20 years, I know every single type of way to make guacamole"
"do what makes you happy buddy" OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM
8:09 - 8:23 The look on Saul's face right after he popped that pit out cracked me up. And I did say, "Wow, thank you!" just before he said, "You're welcome." I had always gotten the pit out the way that Daniel did, but I know that that is a dangerous way because if you miss, you could be in hand surgery the following morning. So thank you, Saul! I really am amazed I had not thought of that before. 🙃
Saul is the entertainment and the skills. Home cook is to give you ideas on cooking things. Amateur is to make you feel better about your cooking (unless you are one)
Loved how level 3 chef made a tiny little habitat to sustain an ecosystem !
“I think I’d be ok with having fruit in my guacamole” not surprising given his berry grilled cheese…
Avocados are fruit Einstein.

Saul is my favorite professional chef ever featured in this series.
"and it's going to be amazing, just like everything i make. if i don't believe in myself, who-- who will?" CHEF SAUL IS SO REAL FOR THAT love him
can i just say, daniel's speaking-to-viewers interaction is getting so much better. he was already good, but now it's so natural
“Chunky like you chef? Yes chunky like me”😂
Gotta love Chef Saul, Frank, and King
honestly, the amateur seemed more confident and knew what he was doing more than the home cook.
level 0 would be a bag of tortilla chips and jar of salsa
This cracked me tf up lol
Its chips and guac so technically it would be me plopping a bag of tortilla chips and store bought guacamole down and calling it complete
the level one chef sounds like he'd be a good disney character
I love Saul's confidence! I mimic it whenever I cook anything but I'm like a level zero chef 😂
Please I need more of Chef Saul he is so charming
2:28 Did Saul just quote Denzel? Do I adore him even more for it? Yes.
Did that reason to adore anyone is stupid? Yes
I’m Dominican but I agree with Saul about the Dominican avocados. They have way too much liquid for a guacamole. I’ve learned from experience 😂. Best to save those large avocados to eat in slices as a side to your rice, beans and meat.
Best meal right there!
Agreed. No one likes a watery guacamole
Exactamente, esos aguacates son deliciosos en rebanadas, junto a la comida.
Chef Saul deserves a show on Netflix
I never thought I’d say it, but Saul may have just surpassed Frank as my favorite level 3 chef!
This is one of the first times I can say that ALL THREE of them look appetizing. I would eat all of them.

Saul pushing the avocado pit out from the back literally blew my mind. Why did I never think of that lmao
just having saul or rose in a video is more than enough to make it worth watching, but BOTH of them in the same video?! man what a gift! yall epicurious staff spoiling us XD
Why not make a series where you put chef's go head to head with each other. Level 1 chef vs another level 1 chef, level 2 chef vs level 2 chef. Things like that. I'd give anything to watch Saul and Frank fight tooth and nail to win.
Idk, I like the fact that this isn't a competitive channel. Makes it more relaxing to watch.
@@michellebowen1194 well, of course you are right about that.
I'd love to see something like give Saul and Frank the exact same ingredients with no other directions and see what they make. Or something like one of them starts a dish and then halfway through the other has to take over and finish it (with no input from the first). Doesn't even have to be a competition!
