Considering the surroundings being like a shed or barn, that wasn't Olaf's wife. Just a random women he desired and brought there, most likely. Also, the reason Askeladd just killed her is because she's a witness to the murder. Simply, no loose ends.
16:20 woman woke up and saw Askeladds Face, so he killed her before she could scream for help out of the same reason he killed all the villagers. Silencing witnesses.
17:01 "How does he inherit his property through that so?" Because his father acknowledged him officially as his son. His half Brothers acknowledged him also, he was well liked and had a good standing with his father and everybody knew that. So he could expect a share of the inheritance and nobody would question that. His father putting him under his own roof wasn't just nice, it had legal ramifications.

Now we see what Askeladd wanted: he was waiting for King Arthur. Someone who would be able to protect Wales, the homecountry of his mother.
He only knows the ways of Vikings but despises it. That why he asked Thors to become the leader of their group: he saw someone who didn’t want to kill, who thought differently and Askeladd saw King Arthur in Thors.
As he took in Thorfin he kinda hoped that he would turn out like his father and he could kind of shape Thorfin into the King Arthur he was waiting for. But Thorfin didn’t progressed in the way he wanted and Askeladd grew desperate to find this savior because he became older. And as Canute appeared he thought that he could shape him into someone who can protect Wales. That’s why he was very on edge in the beginning: Canute was way too whimsy and whiny and he felt like he had no time to search for another one to carry that King Arthur-burden. But then Canute had his „revelation“ in ep. 18 and after this change Askeladd finally saw someone he can follow and make into Arthur.
Thorfin never before had the dream of Vinland, just a kid listening about a fantastical world with no war, slave or blizzard. It's his father, Thors's dream since he want to be a pacifist and a protector that never takes human life again thus a fairytale land like that is what he dream about in an indirect way. Canute choose to be a conqueror to build such a land without fear of getting his hand dirty since God in his mind is cruel one that never do anything except test them and not protect it's believer (especially a devout one like Ragnar, his true father figure and family), just like Askeladd and his father.

I don't think it's that. I think he is feeling cold and in the mood to teach Thorfinn a lesson. He just had a real duel, with his only friend in the world; as a favor to have him end his life fighting; now comes this insolent kid who has been nipping at his heels for over a decade. He is done pretending that there's any honor or reason in this repeated pattern. He is in many ways disappointed in Thorfinn that he hasn't gotten it out of his system or reflected on this pattern himself.
It's not rage; it's more like a stern parent (who is also mourning his friend at the same time)
I was talking more about the feelings towards the king badmouthing his mother which might have spilled over to his relationship to Thorfinn, which it luckily did not. =)
I don't think it was super uncommon to bring a bastard in. Him being a position to inherit anything is very odd though. Usually they would not be officially recognised.
He kills the women because she is there. No witnesses. If she screamed, he would be caught and his plan would fail.
Yeah, the inheritance was a bit weird beacuse of the reasons you gave.
my point about the woman was moer "why not wait till he is alone?", then again, he might never have been and As was just like "goddamn it, f** it" :D

This show is an examination of the human being. It distinguishes itself from most stories you will find in media because it presents a way of being that is in a modern sense illogical. Thors’s death quickly presents us with the main theme of this show. Sacrificing yourself for a higher purpose. He could not have known that Askelad would keep his promise but he still didn’t kill him because why? Why would you not ensure all threats to your son are ended? The answer is simply that Love is a more important thing than your son’s safety. In my country we have a Voievode Constantin Brâncoveanu who sacrificed all of his four sons. He was asked to renounce his faith or be killed. He refused and they started killing his sons one by one until the youngest remained and according to our records he told his son that it is better to die than to give up on Love ( God in the Christian faith) and before he was killed he prayed for his executioners. You see, I believe this to be the only way to break the cycle represented so well in attack on titan. However much we like the idea of love it is very illogical to do such a things because it requires a belief in an eventual justice at a Last Judgement say. In any case this show is a very Christian show and in order to understand it, understanding Thors or the archetypal Jesus is key. Bjorn basically told askelad that he loved him in the end. He gave him his life, his loyalty, his potential, he would have done anything for him. The tragedy of this story is that if they would have followed Thors, Askelad and Bjorn would have become followers of his teachings.But the problem is that Askelad was waiting for Artorius or a warrior. He asked Thors to lead them in battle not in love. After the battle we see Askelad being shocked when he learns that no one died and we see him contemplate Thors’s actions. He does not understand him. And you see this throughout the show. Everyone is trying to understand Thors. Askelad, Thorkell, the priest, Thorfinn but they don’t. In any case I wish everyone well and I enjoy your reactions.
It's not necessarily that Askeladd was always toying with him (although he definitely was early on), it's that he always successfully angered Thorfinn.
In a healthier condition, and without anger clouding his mind (eg. how he fought against Thorkell) Thorfinn would have a good chance against Askeladd.
Bjorn wanted a duel with Askelad because vikings that dont die in battle, dont enter valhalla. Since Bjorn was going to die from the infection, he decided to at least die in a duel.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect that the writing of Askeladd's character was written so as to largely follow the archetype of Cinderella. Both undergo similar rags-to-riches character arcs and have suspiciously similar wordplay in their names.
Cinderella's name (or rather, nickname by which everyone calls her) refers directly to the cinders she was always covered in. The nickname Askeladd similarly means "ashen-lad", given also grew up poor, overworked, and covered in dirt/ash.
Both characters are initially viewed as being of peasant class despite their noble lineages. They both rise from modest, ash-laden roots to figures of influence and nobility, defying their assumed lowly position in society at the beginning of their stories. Both characters-through different means-discover their concealed virtues. Their respective journeys embody the redemptive revelation of their true selves.
