John Denver was killed in a plane crash less than two months after Princess Diana's death. That's what makes it stick in my memory. The music that Mama Cass and John Denver both made left a legacy that will never die. Their voices are just so pure. Please do more of them both!
I can't tell you how many women said goodbye to Viet Nam-bound boyfriends and husbands to this song. I know of at least a dozen. So it always makes me teary.
"Leavin' On a Jet Plane" was recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary in 1969 and covered by oodles of singers since. I always loved John Denver and Cass Elliott (may they both rest in peace). John Denver had a string of hits including "Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Sunshine" and "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" - he died in a plane crash. Cass Elliott sang with "The Mamas & the Papas" and their hits included: "California Dreaming", "Monday Monday" & "I Saw Her Again" - she died of a heart attack. Thank you for playing this & your comments.
"Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" are a couple Denver Songs you might like. John Denver died piloting an experimental aircraft. Momma Cass died in her sleep of heart attack.
John Denver has plenty of songs you know, you just didn't know. I was in the middle of the outback near Alice Springs at a tiny bar when a bus of European travelers stopped in. Someone put "thank god im a country boy" on and everyone began singing it and dancing. I was the only American there.
@alanwhetstone3922 That simple little comment brought instant tears to my eyes because it suddenly made me miss my grandmother so much. Lovely comment, so true.💙🌿
BP's a good Cass Elliott song to react to, if you haven't already, is Dream a Little Dream of Me. John Denver's iconic song is Thank God I'm a Country Boy. Cass died of a heart attack, John Denver crashed a home-made plane that he had only recently purchased.
When we go camping we sit around the campfire at night singing along with John Denver. It is so peaceful and fun. I grew up with these singers. They always make me feel like home. I'm glad you listened to them.
John Denver has such a beautiful, smooth voice. A few of his other songs are Sunshine On My Shoulders, Annie's Song, and Rocky Mountain High. Great easy listening. I don't think many people know he adopted a black boy and an Asian girl. Not exactly common back then. Mama Cass was a short lived treasure. Thanks for doing this guys! 👍
He has so many great songs Rocky Mountain High, Take Me Home Country Roads, Thank God I'm A Country Boy, Annie's Song, and many more! Give them a spin I know you'll both like them!
Take me Home Country Roads, Rocky Mountain High, and many many more hit songs were done by John Denver Died in his experimental air plane. I was 22 and remember watching this TV special live. The Everly Brothers were also on this first show and I got to see them live in Las Vegas a few years before they both passed away.
This recording is actually television history. This pilot episode of "The Midnight Special" from 1972 is actually the first time any of the major US television networks attempted any type of programming at 1am. Because this pilot was so well received, NBC made it a weekly show the following year, putting it on the schedule after "Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson". It would remain on the air for eight years.
Great way way to put it. "A voice that makes you daydream." That was John Denver. John Denver crashed his homebuilt airplane into the Monterey Bay in California in 1997 and was killed in that crash. A talented and altruistic man.
So glad you both liked this. I'm from Washington State in the U.S. and John Denver in his youth belonged to the "Chad Mitchell Trio" and they toured extensively throughout the NW U.S. states. When Denver became really famous he made sure to always come back to WA state, even the smaller cities like Spokane, WA where I am from. Always thought that was sweet of him. I always have to share an anecdote of myself. My parents raised us on John Denver, Neil Diamond, similar artists so when Denver was coming to town I believe it was late 1996 or early '97, I was in my early 20s and couldn't get anyone to go with me to the concert. I guess Denver wasn't cool enough for my friends so I sat it out and did not go. Less than a year later he died in that plane crash. Now I have a policy: go to whatever I want, whenever I want (at lease if financially feasible). Because you never know what might happen. I go to movies by myself, gone to concerts by myself. My going to something will never be predicated on whether I have someone to go with!
John Denver wrote the song but it was really popularized by the trio Peter, Paul and Mary. John really doesn't have a bad song. I grew up listening to his sweet voice. Thanks for this reaction guys! 🙂❤ I recommend "Wild Montana Skies" with Emmylou Harris.
John was an alumni at the high school I attended in Ft. Worth for sophmore and junior year. He was supposed to come and give a talk at the school but had a scheduling conflict and then he died tragically a short time later.
I met John at many concerts( 14) He died 1997 in a plane crash of his homemade E-Z one seater plane. I love his songs( he wrote n sang) Some I love are Take Me Home Country Roads( well known around the world, The Gift he wrote for his biological daughter, Poems, Prayers n Promises, Annie's Song( written while on a ski lift in Aspen for his wife Annie,Flying For Me was written for Christa Mc Auliffe( a teacher who's life was cut short when the Space Shuttle Challenger crashed a few mins after take off. He was supposed to be on that flight( they were having a civilian to fly. John was in line for that flight( I think he had to pay a few million dollars to go) But President Regan chose a teacher to represent education. When he heard about the crash he had to write this song for her. To think if he was the one chosen, It upset him so much n this song came to him quickly ( I love this song but always makes me cry. I better stop or I will write down a few hundred more. I really love your reactions esp with people I grew up with
Great reaction! John Denver is my most favorite artist of all time! If he sounds familiar, he's one of the writers and singer of "Take Me Home, Country Roads!" I hope that's familiar to you guys and he has such a clear and dreamy tone to him. You want a daydream song, try "Sunshine on my Shoulders" (studio version) and "Rocky Mountain High" is always great too! Did a duet with Olivia Newton-John called "Fly Away" and also with Emmylou Harris called "Wild Montana Skies" (which is a favorite of mine)! My 2 most favorite songs by John are "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (Wildlife Concert version or An Evening with John Denver album) and "Follow Me!"
Oh, can't forget "This Old Guitar" about the time he lost his guitar that his grandmother gave him and 5 years later he found it and wrote a song about it with it in the hotel room. He had a tv show that he did the song and told the story with the guitar!
Written by John Denver, but a hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in 1967, John Denver first recorded it for his debut album in 1966 where it went under the title Babe I Hate To Go. He was persuaded to change the title and included it again on his album Rhymes and Reason
Thanks, guys! obviously JD wrote this... (he could take a joke) -- Cass was amazing.. and it' so relevant today... so many years ago.. but DAMN! Kids get out and vote! (you totally know more JD songs... Rocky Mountain High... Take me Home Country Roads.. for just a couple...)... p.s. I see the comparison with Don McLean.. "Vincent"... another of my favorites...

More John Denver wouldn't bother me at all! This off the tv recording is actually terrible, though their voices almost to sound well enough despite it. 'Take Me Home Country Roads' makes everyone homesick, you don't have to be from West Virginia.

Cass Elliot was a beautiful soul and a wonderful musician no wonder an equally good soul and musician John Denver revered her
"Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" are a couple Denver Songs you might like. John Denver died piloting an experimental aircraft. Momma Cass died in her sleep of heart attack.
A beautiful song sang by two beautiful people who are very sadly missed x
John Denver was one of the greatest artist ever. He has a great voice and great songs.

John wrote this, put it on his 66 Album, never became popular, then Peter, Paul and Mary made it #1 and John was just revisiting it here.
You might enjoy John Denver and The Muppets doing " Grandma's Feather Bed"
Take Me Home Country Roads was a huge hit of his. Ironically, this song foretold his death. He died in a plane crash. My parents loved him.
He has so many great songs Rocky Mountain High, Take Me Home Country Roads, Thank God I'm A Country Boy, Annie's Song, and many more! Give them a spin I know you'll both like them!
Like Mama Cass's "Dream a Little Dream of Me." The Mamas and The Papas had many hits including "Monday, Monday" and "California Dreaming."
Love John Denver, know one sounds like him. When he died I cried for days!!!

John Denver is a rabbit hole you definitely need to go down!
Cass Elliott was a member of the Mamas and the papas singing group, one of the song they sung was Monday, Monday!

No that's incorrect, John Denver did not write the song. Cass Elliot wrote this song. She actually said she wrote it in this video.
Unless she was being sarcastic when she said that. The more I think about it the more I'm starting to believe John Denver wrote it now. Lol 🤪
@@adinabass79 She was definitely just making a joke. John Denver wrote it. 😃
Annie's song is one of the best...ever. Assuming you are in any way a romantic.
John was an alumni at the high school I attended in Ft. Worth for sophmore and junior year. He was supposed to come and give a talk at the school but had a scheduling conflict and then he died tragically a short time later.
Rocky Mountain High = best John Denver song. And you should check out California Dreamin’ by the Mamas & Papas (Cass Elliot) 😊!
John Denver " take me home country roads" both great artist Cass and john

No money involved for John re Challenger, he was very involved in NASA
@@rebapuck5061 He was, interesting hey! Rumours about 2nd ex wife. We'll never find out the truth.
I born in1974 & I remember watching John Denver with the Muppets he was very funny.
My mother loved John Denver….it was always playing on a 8 track in our house! ❤️😉
John Denver wrote some fantastic songs.

@Lauren Gaudette
Hi Lauren, thanks you for all the information, we appreciate it.
Thanks also for checking out the channel and come back soon
She was theee female voice of the Mamas and the Papas ( CaliforniaDreamin) in the 60’s. She also put Crosby, Stills and Nash together!
Cass Elliott was in the group Mama and The Pappas. She passed away 1974 and he died 1997 in a plane crash.
You probably have heard Country Roads. A stadium full of people in Germany sang it at an NFL game there.
This was performed on my 18th birthday! I am now 68 and remember both those artists very well.
This is a old video. I have always enjoyed this. This song is just peaceful. It reminds me of life in the late sixties and early seventies.
Annie's Song is a very romantic love song. IMO, Cass' best song was "Words of Love" - check it out.
Love John Denver!! If was like a family member when he died!! I was devastated!!!
Written by John Denver, but a hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in 1967, John Denver first recorded it for his debut album in 1966 where it went under the title Babe I Hate To Go.
He was persuaded to change the title and included it again on his album Rhymes and Reason
He has beautiful duets with Placido Domingo. Perhaps love.
Legends, American legends always giving their best. Such soothing voices, and together all the more calming!
Both are iconic at this point. Rocky Mountain High is a great Denver song. So many though. Cass was wonderful in the Mammas and Pappas.
This was a hard song to hear for loved ones that watched their boys go to Viet Nam. 500,000 men went to war. 50,000 perished.
John Denver also stared in the Oh God movies with George Burns playing God.
Thanks, guys! obviously JD wrote this... (he could take a joke) -- Cass was amazing.. and it' so relevant today... so many years ago.. but DAMN! Kids get out and vote! I was just thinking BP1, maybe you heard his song " Rocky Mountain High" if not, you'd love it.
Try listening to Country Road, by John Denver.
I do believe you gentlemen would very much enjoy The Black Sorrows singing "Never let me go". Great vocals 🇭🇲
Annie's Song by John Denver is still one of the most beautiful songs out there

John Denver died in a plane crash in a plane he built.
He did not build the plane, he bought it from the original owner who built it.
Ey
More John Denver wouldn't bother me at all! This off the tv recording is actually terrible, though their voices almost to sound well enough despite it. 'Take Me Home Country Roads' makes everyone homesick, you don't have to be from West Virginia.
Mamma cass wrote this
No she didn't. Denver did.
Ironically thats how Denver died.
Mama Cass choked to death on a ham sandwich. Everyone was terribly shocked when the word got out.
That is not true, just an ugly rumor that keeps being perpetuated. She died in her sleep due to a heart attack. No ham sandwich, no drugs or anything else other than what the autopsy states.
Why the snow crap covering the screen it spoils.
Excuse me- John Denver is a 10!!!!!
Please react to any Cass Elliot song.
