You don't know the half of it. The thing about Mark Knopfler is that he's left-handed but mastered a right-handed guitar to level most right-handed players can only dream of achieving. A true virtuoso. 😁
Mark Knopfler just makes it look so easy and comfortable yet also really takes you on a journey. The original is special as it was the first, but I love this version especially. The coda at the end just so beautiful with that repeating guitar and keyboard motif.
Yep! For me the top is Jimmy Page, either Stairway to heaven or Since I've been loving you, live at Madison Square garden. I'm lucky enough to have grown up during the greatest guitar players era! Love Knopfler.
THE DEFINITION OF TIGHT: When your drummer mouths back to you the notes you're playing. The definitive version of Sultans of Swing, one of my favourite tunes of all time.
Welcome to the golden age of music. I was so lucky to have bands like this to listen to as I grew up. Bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep etc. Real music sung by real singers. No saccharine music you have today.
Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits are so legendary ❤ So many amazing masterpieces from Brothers in Arms to Romeo and Juliet to Local Hero (Newcastle FC's theme tune Going Home - which has a new star studded recording for charity) to the incredible music for Princess Bride. Brilliant 👌
The thing about Mark Knopfler is that he's left-handed but mastered a right-handed guitar to level most right-handed players can only dream of achieving. A true virtuoso.
Always puzzled me as a lefty and as a guitarist who plays as a righty, why you'd give the arguably more difficult job of fretting to your non dom hand normally, a lefty flip guitar seems strange to me as a lefty you'd then be using your right hand to fret, that should be how right handers normally play logically
Telegraph Road please!🙏 Same venue last song of the night and their jackets came off! Mark changes up his guitar to a "resonator" guitar and the sound makes me weep! Excellent show would have loved to been there! Thank you folks for your reaction love this band!
You have to do Telegraph Road from the same concert. BTW, this version is faster than the studio version because the drummer was just going for it as his Dad was in the audience for the 1st time. Great reaction to another legendary band. 👊🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Stop passing this ridiculous story about Terry and his da. He has always taken his da to his gigs if at all possible. Terry is a professional and he would never go beyond Mark for any reason and Mark is always in full control of his band. So just stop passing this around.
I was in that audience, what an absolutely fabulous night, the entire concert was brilliant. Look how they smiled, pure joy (bands are too cool to smile these days, look how ‘happy’ Oasis always look) I’m pushing 76 now and this gives me as much joy as the first time I heard it. Saw them several times on this tour. Pure genius.
I was there too! I was 18, I'm 59 now, its just the best They all had a great time and we joined in! For me, Terry Williams was the star because everyone in the band was the best Terry is the best drummer no one has heard of, he's one of the best ever
You have just witnessed one of the best live musical performances of all time. I’ve watched this dozens of times and dozens of reactions on RUclips, and I never get tired of it.
Love this song and Mark Knopfler is a great guitarist. You have to react to "Brothers in Arms" easily the most emotional song Dire Straits ever recorded.
The atmosphere was electric, a shared experience of nostalgia and admiration for the artistry of Dire Straits. It’s moments like these that remind you of the power of live music to bring people together!
Ive listened to this rendition for many, many years and EVERY SINGLE TIME when it gets to the part where it slows down and Mark starts his solo, tears start flowing from my eyes!!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! AND I DONT KNOW WHY?? AND I DONT CARE!!!❤
How could anyone not love that song and blissful performance. I was just sitting there like a nodding dog with a big smile on my face the whole way through.
The journalist asked; how does it feel to be considered the best guitarist? PRINCE replied ask MARK! This lineup of Dire Straits is my favorite and this concert contains all the songs that are worth watching. 🌺
Telegraph Road from the same concert is absolutely amazing and displays the sublime musicianship of each and every member! I feel certain you will absolutely love it!! Brilliant reaction! Thank you and best wishes from the UK!
John Ilsley, the bass player, owns the pub near me in Hampshire. He's cool about Dire Straits like "It's no big deal". Well it is to the rest of the world. Mark Knopfler and John Ilsley are the best.
Love, love, love this song. The studio version also has a great guitar sequence at the end, but many radio stations used to cut it short when I was young. I tried not to listen to those stations anymore if I could help it.
You could react to absolutely any track from this concert and be blown away, but Telegraph Road is simply a masterpiece. It's got everything. I saw them on the next (Live in 85 for the Brothers In Arms album) tour, and to this day it's still the best concert I've ever been to.
The original band was just 4 guys. The self titled first album where this song is from is just sooo good. Regularly played. Great sound. The more people who listen to Dire Straits the better.
I love the way they wrote or engineered the audience participation in the song, gave them an obvious outlet to be followed by a section that needs attention to appreciate. The audience were given their spot of glory just as the band members had their highlights.
There is rhythm going on here at two levels, first a frenetic paced lead and then a deeper slower paced line. What gave it away was both of your heads nodding, but in response to different paces. Watch yourselves for the different pace of your reactions. Unknown but natural, is why we watch you two so much!
man, throughout the 1950s to the 1980s Britain exported some of the best pop and rock bands to ever exist. Insane how much talent from the UK just exploded onto the scene and took over the world lol.
Brothers in arms with the accompanying video is something well worth experiencing! It’s truly moving and so atmospheric you have to experience it sometime to understand cos I can’t explain it’s feeling 👍👍
First time i heard this song was back in 1978. It was summer and i was on the beautiful island of Naxos (Greece) From every pub...every beach...every radio you could hear Dire straits...It was hot..the beer cold and the women moore beautiful than ever. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
My favourite band from my youth & still my go-to vinyl albums to play today. Saw them a few times in the '80's at London venue's. Mark has a unique sound & way of playing & all the band members were at the top of their game for this performance. Probably up there as one of the best live performances of all time. Telegraph Road from the same live show must be your next DS reaction. Fun fact, Mark is a lefty by plays right handed & rarely uses a pick.
This was my first time watching a “live” performance of this. I really enjoyed it. I am old enough to remember the start of Rock and Roll. I even had a 45 rpm EP of Bill Halley. As a teenager+, I listened to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. What amazes me is that I sometimes see rock stars of my youth STILL performing in their 50s and tow 🤣
Great live music like this is timeless, and when it comes to Dire Straits it really is the tip of the iceberg. They did so many brilliant live concerts around the globe but probably the best were Alchemy with great tracks like Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love. Also the 'On the Night' gig with unforgettable renditions of Brothers in Arms, Romeo and Juliet and Private Investigations...The list is enormous.
The unique guitar sound you hear that Mark Knopfler is playing a Fender Stratocaster. It is well known for having a unique sound. I actually owned one for a while while I was playing with a band and I adored it. Fabulous guitar I can't even imagine how much one must cost these days.
It was a demo of Sultans of Swing (1977) that secured Dire Straights their first record deal. I'm grateful I grew up with this music, but it is also fun to see new generations discovering Dire Straits for the first time. (And yes, also check out the lyrics, and the great stories behind them, as Mark is an amazing storyteller). Mark Knopfler is a guitar virtuoso, and he also did the song-writing, composing and arrangement for the band; he nevertheless always made sure to give the other band members a chance to shine (in all of their live performances you will notice that Mark constantly makes eye contact with the other guys, and often moves around the stage to 'connect' with his bandmates, literally sharing the spotlight). Mark is best know for his unique guitar-plucking style (unlike most guitarists, he doesn't use a pick), his amazing tone and his unique phrasing, which contribute to his extraordinary ability to elicit emotion through his guitar, usually producing a visceral impact on the listener. In addition to all of that, Mark is actually left handed, but plays guitar with his right, whilst making it all look so easy! If you want to see the breathtaking musicianship of this band, and the kind of epic musical masterpiece they could collectively produce, you have to treat yourself to their performance of "Telegraph Road" and "Once Upon a Time in the West", both from this Alchemy Live concert. And no exploration of Dire Straits would be complete without checking out their performance of "Brothers in Arms" and "Money for Nothing" from On the Night Live. (Their live performances are always next level!).
This is quite simply, one of the greatest rock performances EVER!!!
In the top 10 of all Live performances ever. Mark Knopfler can play guitar like few others. Finger picking playing rock..... Insane thank you!!!
You don't know the half of it. The thing about Mark Knopfler is that he's left-handed but mastered a right-handed guitar to level most right-handed players can only dream of achieving. A true virtuoso. 😁

Love Knopfler.
Telegraph Road from this same concert is perhaps even better!
If you like this you have to listen to Telegraph Road from the same live show.
Agree it’s a master peace ❤
Telegraph Road & Private Investigations…..the two best (if that’s even possible for there to be a best) Dire Straits songs.
You must do Telegraph Road !
I like this song but I think Telegraph Road is even better. An absolute master piece.
There was a reason TR was the finale for the concert!
This is amazing, but check out Telegraph Road from this concert, it is an absolute undisputed masterpiece.
Mark just turned 75 and released his 10th solo album. Now catch "Telegraph Road" from this same tour. Its a masterpiece.
As we say over here "Knopfler told the story, the guitar sang the song". 👌
THE DEFINITION OF TIGHT: When your drummer mouths back to you the notes you're playing. The definitive version of Sultans of Swing, one of my favourite tunes of all time.
The great Terry Williams!

Lovin this . Mark is pure talent
What a great performance
Brothers in arms was a massive hit for them. It’s honouring the fallen.
No it wasn't unfortunately because it's a good song
It only reached no16 on the uk charts that's not massive
I've watched this so many times on a load of reactions, and never tire of hearing it 🎸🥁🎤
Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits are so legendary ❤ So many amazing masterpieces from Brothers in Arms to Romeo and Juliet to Local Hero (Newcastle FC's theme tune Going Home - which has a new star studded recording for charity) to the incredible music for Princess Bride. Brilliant 👌
One of THE best live performances at any gig anywhere. Sublime. It's not just the music, it's the feeling. Amazing.
One of the best guitarrists of my era... hard to believe he is now 75.....
75, but still playing.
Talent beyond compare.
this is when music was music, and talent
And no Ticket Master jacking prices thru the roof
Knopfler is a guitar magician. What he is capable of defies logic. 😎
yep !
Yes my man. The greatest that ever lived
That’s what you get when you get a banjo player playing an electric guitar like it’s a banjo. Such a unique style
@@damedusa5107 Lefty playing righty too!
I'm told the drums died after this performance and we're buried in a private ceremony .
Best drumming I've ever heard.
Dire Straits-Telegraph Road Live- aLCHEMY Tour 1983 is a must see.
second this
Oh, yes!
Yep...totally agree 👍
Todo el concierto y todas las canciones son muy buenas
Same concert, Telegraph Road is even more amazing 😊
I agree.
Telegraph Road from this same concert is even better in my opinion
This is one of the best live Rock performances of all time. 100 times better than the studio version, which you don’t see often.…
A band of brilliant musicians, lead by a genius songwriter and guitarist. Sheer magic
One of the greatist live performances ever. Drummer Terry Williams tears it up!
Apparently his parents were there and the band pulled out all the stops for this show.
From a time when music was music
a great performance by mark and the band but the drummer was spectacular
His dad was in the audience, watching him play with Dire Straits for the first time. True story. No surprise that he played like he was possessed.
Propbably the best guitarist around, Knopfier is just brilliant
Knopfler tells the story - but his guitar does the singing.
Telegraph Road is a must same show great reaction.
Telegraph Road from the same concert (Alchemy Live) is a must!
I have seen this performance over 100times. Never get tired of it. Gives me the chills every time.
Pure genius without technology help

It's not totally bullshit. It was the first time his dad saw him play with dire straights. Obviously he had seen him play before.
Tunnel of Love and Romeo & Juliet are also great
This is the best Live version of any musical venue that I have ever seen and I am really old!
I am a 70year old English lady who had the utter joy of seeing DS live at Hammersmith. The heat, the sound the utter, utter joy. Memorable ❤❤❤❤

I’m of a certain vintage and grew up listening to this music, back in the day. I’m so appreciative of young people listening to this. Thank you
Telegraph Road from this same concert, blow your mind! Classic poetry to music. The performance, ****ing nuts!
Everytime this version comes to my ears I stop whatever I'm doing... and I start to dance and to sing.... what a mood, what vibes... that's mental
Love this song and Mark Knopfler is a great guitarist.
You have to react to "Brothers in Arms" easily the most emotional song Dire Straits ever recorded.

I saw a hilarious comment that the drum kit was carried off on life support after this performance.

@@PjRjHj I think he asked Knopfler for a last go at DS, but no. He was also unimpressed when Mark would call him up saying "I'm all into jazz now ..."
Yes Telegraph road from the same concert. Alan Clarke on piano comes into his own and meshes with Marks guitar wonderfully. Top notch.
This is a performance that captures the magic. It also runs twice the length of the studio or the radio release version.
