How could anyone thumb down this? Cass Elliot and John Denver sing live; two guitars, one upright bass guitar and two magnificent vocals... Pure talent in this Midnight Special tv show. Thanks for posting!
Should do a lot more John Denver. His song Calypso shows how talented his vocal range is. He’s got a ton of great songs. Wild Montana Skies, country Roads, rhymes and reasons, so many.
Thanks, Dani - I love how they start with "unison" and then break to harmony - two wonderful musicians/performers! (BTW, John Denver wrote the song... )
Such professionalism, just beautiful. John recorded it first but had problems getting career moving. Peter Paul &Mary covered it and it went to #1. Though all his songs were personal, this was written at a time when soldiers were flown to VietNam on leased commercial airliners. I still cry. Recomm duets: "Perhaps Love" at RUclips (denver & domingo in studio) and (annie's song denver galway live aspen)
Dani, I've recently stumbled across your site and love the songs that you're critiquing! Especially those really emotional oldies like The Carpenters, Jim Croce, John Denver etc. Here's a few suggestions: mix in Lulu's version of "To Sir With Love". Also, check out a live CD by Nancy Griffith, with "Once in a Blue Moon" & "From A Distance". It's from quite a few years ago, and done while she was performing in Austin, Texas. And the neat thing about it is, she's so comfortable performing in front of people and really enjoys relating stories about her friends & family, her touring and how they relate to her songwriting. I think a couple of those songs will really touch your heartstrings...
Duets - 1. Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway "The Closer I Get To You". 2. Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life. 3. Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. "You Don't Have To Be A Star"
Great reaction! It's such a lovely song. John Denver could write amazing songs. He was a fantastic vocalist too. And Mama Cass? She's Mama Cass -- a comparison that should be a compliment for any singer.
A wonderful duet in sort of the same style and about the same era as this is an at-home performance from 1977 of Carly Simon and James Taylor singing Taylor's 1971 song "You Can Close Your Eyes" with just an acoustic guitar. It has this same laidback seventies feel that you just don't get anymore.
Dani, a duo performance that I would recommend you watch is James Taylor and Carol King performing You Can Close Your Eyes live at the Troubadour Club in Hollywood, where these two rock icons performed together early in their careers. You Can Close Your Eyes is one of James Taylor's most icon songs from the early 70's that he wrote while on tour with Joni Mitchell.
Duet with Stevie Nicks and Don Henley song LEATHER and Lace duet with Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty song Stop Dragin my Heart Around. Duet with Donna Summer and Brooklyn Dreams ,song Heaven Knows. Double Duets the MAMAS and PAPAS , song CALIFORNIA DREAMIN Duet Johnny Cash and June Carter , Im going to Jackson Double Duet ABBA..Honey Honey ,Waterloo,
When Elvis looking for a new Guitarist, he said he wanted the best, he was told the 2 best in America right now are Jon Denver or James Burton he said well i guess that counts John out lol
Love this song. More of a folk song to my way of thinking. John Denver had a heck of a voice. Long list of hits too. Married to an Aussie shiela I believe. But their relationship was sadly tempestuous I remember. J.D. tragically died in a plane crash Dec.12th, 1997 in Monterey, California. As for Mama Cass, WOW! What a blessed rich vocal ability she had. Love this. You should’ve been singing this song Dani on your way to the airport mate.(Ha,Ha) Be safe. See ya.👍🇦🇺❤️🌹😁
John was married to Annie Martel. His second marriage was to Cassandra Delaney from Australia, john died on october12,1997 in monerray bay California in a plane crash.
Here's one of the differences between entertainers back then versus today: Did you notice how Cass got the message out about the importance of voting, but stressed that YOU decide who you think is best to vote for? She didn't TELL and lecture us about voting for who she sides with. Talk down to us as some elitist would. Refer to half of the country as "Nazis", etc. Back when we could actually engage in civil discourse and be respectful of one another.
Enjoying your channel Listening to all the great music you play I wanted to make a music suggestion play inside and out by the beegees You and all your fans will enjoy it I enjoyed this song when I was in high school back in the day Keep that great music playing and have a wonderful day
Possibly try to react to "Guilty" and "What Kind Of Fool" with Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb. Preferable the versions from her live show at her home. Link below. ruclips.net/video/OrJ_QAkeH50/видео.html

John was a truly great songwriter. So many memorable songs throughout his career.
Two beautiful voices. Both gone too soon. ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦🇨🇦
I miss John Denver such a beautiful voice!
A wonderful duet by 2 amazing voices. Thank you so much Dani.
Dani, they're both gone, much too young. So sad. What a duet! Perfect harmony. Perfect!
The way they preceded the harmony of the main chorus with unison singing of the lead-up line to the chorus was also really effective.
John Denver simply the best
Should do a lot more John Denver.
His song Calypso shows how talented his vocal range is.
He’s got a ton of great songs. Wild Montana Skies, country Roads, rhymes and reasons, so many.
Once they started harmonizing, I got goosebumps.
There’s something about these Great old songs. What a message they give.
Song from my childhood. Such a sweet time.
I wish Cass had more to sing. Her voice was amazing. Must listen to her singing "Dream a little dream of me."
So awesome song I listened I was 13 years old
Thanks, Dani - I love how they start with "unison" and then break to harmony - two wonderful musicians/performers! (BTW, John Denver wrote the song... )
The song is about John or an singer/entertainer like him leaving on a tour. There is a line in one verse “every song I sing I’ll sing for you “
Beautiful Dani, You know songs in those days were so "raw" unlike alot of songs today are manufactured.
John Denver’s
Sunshine on my Shoulders

Stevie Nicks and Don Henley: "Leather and Lace." Gorgeous duet.

Thanks for this! I miss John Denver being on the earth and his music and poetry and his message of peace and efforts to end world hunger.
R.I.P. John & Cass. Another fav dual song, Elton John - Don't Go Breaking My Heart (with Kiki Dee)
One of my very favourite songs, ever.
It's really great!!
Peter, Paul and Mary had a huge hit with a cover of this song. Their three-part harmonies are beautiful.
Fly Away with John and Olivia Newton John, beautiful harmony and song.
You noticed no auto tunning, no flashy dancers just pure talent, he sounded just as good live as he did in a studio.
Her voice was so BIG she didn’t need a microphone. And joy Denver! What can you say.

Cass Elliot may not have been the most aesthetically pleasing female, but man,was she a great singer.A real talent.
I was about 9 years old in 72. Had a super groovy free childhood too.Real Hip times mate.👍🇦🇺🤪🥳
Great reaction! It's such a lovely song. John Denver could write amazing songs. He was a fantastic vocalist too. And Mama Cass? She's Mama Cass -- a comparison that should be a compliment for any singer.
This was on a show called The Midnight Special. NBC broadcast this once a month on Saturdays. Wish they would have kept it on. ....

Fly Away by John Denver and Olivia Newton-John - another great duet.
As others will have said:Sadly,Cassington had less than 2 years to live when this was done and John would die in a plane crash😢😢❤🎩

John Denver was as good live as he was on the studio versions.
He’s awesome live!!
I don’t remember if you’ve reacted to Elvis & Lisa Marie. You might like Frank Sinatra & Celine Dion duet.
Sweet and sad
Hello,
A suggestion, Sam Cook - A Change Is Gonna Come.

All the more poignant as John subsequently lost his life after losing control of the aircraft he was flying and crashing into the sea. Very sad.
